    The Fs of my Subs are 25 hz and they are in a sealed enclosure. Does this mean that setting the Subsonic to 25 hz is ideal?
    I usually don't touch bass boost but set mine at + 3 db to get some more output. On the other hand I would never recommend using over 6 db of bass boost.
    My subs are only getting 150 RMS each but are rated at 250 because the amp is rated at 500 RMS at 1 ohm and my dual 2 ohm speakers can't work with the amp at 1 ohm.

    If you wanted to run your components on a 2-channel setup and use the included crossovers I assume you'd just set the HPF correct? For a starting off point it sounds like you suggest a 12" Sub LPF of around 100hz, and for a set of 6.5" Components the HPF of around 200hz? In this case I am only running a set of components up front (6.5") and a 12" sub. Thanks in advance, this video was great.

I don’t remember quite how I tune my game and since it’s brand new I have a break in. I think so here I am now going down the RUclips hall to try to figure it out. • @NextLevelCarAudio
      @NextLevelCarAudio  3 года назад +1

      I’d get a good 4 channel and run it with only the HPF set to 80-100hz so you don’t over exert your mids with too low of frequencies. Most ALL 2-way and 3-way have a capacitor (bass blocker) built in to the tweet to block frequencies below 1-2k or so. Because of that, no need to run a LPF.

    • @NextLevelCarAudio
      @NextLevelCarAudio  3 года назад

      So the best way to do it would be to have a dedicated class-d monoblock subwoofer amplifier to power your sub. It may be possible to do it with your 4-channel, but you will likely be taxing it very hard. If your 4 channel is bridgeable you could bridge channels 3 and 4 to feed your sub as long as your cautious of your amps impedance requirements in bridged mode. Typically it wants a 4 ohm load in bridged. Then for channels 1 and 2 run a 6.5 in parallel with a 6x9 on one channel and the same for the other.

    • @NextLevelCarAudio
      @NextLevelCarAudio  3 года назад +2

      Easy. No problem... so the High pass crossover will act as your sub sonic filter. Set it at your port tuning frequency of your enclosure. If sealed enclosure, you can leave it at 15, or maybe 20. Low pass filter should be set depending on size of subs. 80hz 15’s, 100hz 12’s, 120hz 10’s. Etc.... I never recommend bass boost. If people need to use bass boost, they don’t need boost they need more subs and amps. Lol. Once all that is dialed in, then set your gain accordingly. I have lots of videos on this. Hope that helped

    Great explanation! I have a question though that I'm trying to figure out. I'm currently installing 4 coaxial 6.5 speakers in my boat and two 8" subs on a 5 channel amplifier with channel 5 reserved for the subs. These are 8" subs so I'm taking from your explanation that I could blend them a bit higher frequency than if they were bigger say 12 or 15". How would I set up the coaxials to just play mid range and high range since the tweeters are built into them? I would need them to filter out the lower frequencies that the 8" should be picking up only correct? So would I just set the high pass on the coaxials and the low pass on the 8"? Or should I leave the coaxials alone and let all frequecies pass through?

    • @NextLevelCarAudio

      You got it spot on when you said set LPF on subs and HPF only on your coaxials. 8’s can play higher so yeah, they can fill in the rear stage where your front stage starts coming in. You got it bro

    This was an outstanding video, ty. But could use a bit of advice. Currently i have 2 sets of component speakers. In front , Focal Access 6.5 and in rear Mc Claron Audio 6.5.Each with its own crossover. Have all mids and tweets going. My 4 channel is an MTX Thunder 75.4. Having the crossovers in line before amp, one set of wires from each crossover to each channel. First of all, should i even have the rear tweets? Second, exactly how would would be the best way to wire this up? How would i split the tweets and mids differently and to their own channels? Not sure if it matters but the rest of my system is also a subwoofer(Resilient Sounds Gold 12) run by an Audiopipe APMN-1500.Stock altenator and an average battery with 1000cca.Also have been experimenting with an Audiopipe 2 farad cap, and a 1000watt capable agm battery(hard to tell which is better tho). Head unit is JVC-KD-X370. My enclosure is tuned to 32hz. All grounds are good, shortest runs on grounds and hots. 4 gauge all the way. I am clamping around only 750watts tho. With usb stick and quality recording. And its all inside of a 2002 Dodge Dakota Quad cab 4x4. Any tips would be welcome ty.

      Hey man, welcome to the channel. See if i can help here.... If i were you, this is how i'd set it up.... id take my best set of components and run them up front. First, i would place your passive crossover network after, not before your amplifier. then on channel 1 of amp, route that to your passive crossover input which would run your left front door speaker and left front tweet. On channel 2, same thing except for right side. Now, on channel 3 i would run your left rear door woofer and on channel 4 your right rear door woofer. Running tweets in the rear will mess up your sound stage if you are looking for a good SQ setup. having midbass though as a "rear-fill" is fine as it fills in the gap from your substage and front stage. hope that helped.

      @@NextLevelCarAudio I'm sorry I didn't mean to say before the amp I meant to say after. So basically everything is correct I just need to eliminate the rear tweets. Only other question would be my amplifier would put out more wattage if it was wired to 2 ohm, with four 4 ohm speakers how would I wire it to get the most from the amp

    • @NextLevelCarAudio
      @NextLevelCarAudio  3 года назад

      If swapping the speakers you have for 2 ohm ones are not an option, this is what you could do. On channel 1 run your left front tweeter all by itself. On channel 2 run your right front tweeter all by itself. Yes, they will be only giving a 4 ohm load to your amp, but they are tweets, so don’t need as much power as your mid bass. Since you are not using your external passive crossover for the tweets you will need a tweeter crossover or a set of bass blockers. Like these for example:
      store.crescendoaudio.com/ft1-tweeter-crossover/
      Or
      www.crutchfield.com/S-1Ic5m25jft0/p_007BB5000/Crutchfield-Bass-Blockers.html?XVINQ=GLX&awkw=363330673195&awat=pla&awnw=g&awcr=222345817126&awdv=m&awug=1027744&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzM7CmPOC7QIVh4bACh3r3AxzEAQYAiABEgKZ1vD_BwE
      Then, what you are going to do for channel 3 is run it to your input on your passive crossover, then on he woofer output you will connect both the left front and left rear woofer giving you a 2 ohm load, leaving the tweeter output on your crossover vacant. Then same thing on the right side for channel 4.
      Doing this at least give you more output from your amp. Hope that helps.

    Question on amp tuning: If the amplifier is rated at 75 watts at 2 ohms and the speakers are rated at 75 watts at 2.7 ohms is it logical that the gain on the amplifier can be set to its maximum since the numbers match up almost exactly; i.e. 75 watts on each and both are in the approximate 2 ohm range? The amplifier is an Alpine and the speakers are Infinity.

    • @NextLevelCarAudio

      The main factor at play when setting Gain on amp is your head unit preamp output voltage. If you have high output preamp signal and max out your gain you will enter distortion and cause harm to your gear. You need to set gain to level with your input voltage. That is how you get max clean RMS power out of your amp. In some cases, that may only be half way up. Anything more, you will be square waving it

    32hz subs/ box what should the lpf be?

  • @Silentjustin06
    @Silentjustin06 3 года назад

    Everyone sets the crossover for subs around 80 to100hz. My 12 inch subwoofers frequency range is 28hz-250hz. I have my crossover set to150hz because my midrange are 150hz-10,000hz. If the subwoofer range is 28hz-250hz why not set the crossover higher than 80hz so you can get the full range of your subwoofers. It shouldn't hurt the sub if its rated for that range. Sometimes I set it at 200hz depending on the type of music I'm listening to.

    • @NextLevelCarAudio
      @NextLevelCarAudio  3 года назад +1

      There is a reason for that..... it is NOT because it will hurt the sub. I apologize for not diving into more detail in my video. Here is the deal.... The reason we buy sub-woofers in the first place is because we want to hear (and sometimes feel) frequencies that mid range and tweeters cannot reproduce. By having the sub woofer play higher frequencies say 200hz+ two things happen. 1) you are reducing the preciseness of how well your sub can produce the frequencies they play best because you are having them produce more of the frequency range. To the audiophile, you can totally hear the bass become a little "muddy" so to speak. 2) You are unnecessarily utilizing more of your amplifiers power, putting more strain on your electrical system. Your subs are going to draw way more current from your electrical system having to reproduce more of the frequency range. if you set LPF to 80-100 and subsonic to 30hz for example they will perform twice as efficient as if the LPF was set to 160-200. That is why it is important to have a proper front stage to create the needed fill for your frequency spectrum so you are not demanding your subs to reproduce the frequencies your mids should be handling. Hope that helps :)

I play my midrange speakers on Full on my amp but set my crossovers with in the manufacturer specification 150hz-10,000. I got you.... and no problem at all leaving amp on full, and dialing everything in on the head unit. The only reason I would set HPF on amp also is as a fail safe. Just in case your battery dies or fuse pops on head unit and your memory did not save settings, or for whatever reason someone messes with your EQ settings. You at least have an HPF set around 150-ish on your amp so you mids don’t play sub bass frequencies.
