one of the most important videos on the subject of composing careers that I have watched, it targets right at the problem that has been bothering me a lot. Thank you:)
There being such a thing as too much of the cold water you're throwing yourself in is something I've only seen other videos fail to explain. Ty for the inclusion of the graph :')
Personally i don't think discomfort is enough in of it self. It requires highly detailed planning. Nothing should be left to chance or luck ideally or "hope." But that should of course be guided through what we aren't comfortable with.
@@FocusMrbjarke I don't think instinct is something accidental... it's just a quicker way to process things without a deeper logical understanding of them first... You can start with this quick analysis/exploring method, just trying to experiment and have fun, until you get somewhat comfortable, and then you can proceed to something deeper and challenge yourself again
I hate leg day, too, although I only do one exercise: bulgarian split squats with weights. This is so exhausting on muscles, cardio-vascular system and CNS. But I do it. And I feel soreness every time, although I do it since 4 years.
I think the artistic aspect and how discomfort in e.g. working too many hors a day on music was completely neglected in this video. In my examples, and kind of discomfort is negative and badly affects the quality of your music (as long as you dont literally try to find the first and easiest solution in every artistic choice case)
I agree with you - near the end I mentioned that composers fall into the stress zone super easily and often have to dial it back. That's where finding the sweet spot between comfort and stress lies, and it's often a moving target!
@@ZachHeyde I hope I can learn how to rest. However, making music is also the time when I feel most alive. It really feels like I can tell something that I wouldn't be able to otherwise.

Most definitely - discomfort's just a piece of the puzzle! 👍🏻
You also can start it instinctively.
@@halivudestevez2 nothing should be an accident ideally.

Man, are you the composer? Do you have them... compositions?)
Resting and being unproductive makes me uncomfortable
I used to feel that way too - it takes some getting used to but is the best way to sustain good work in the long-term!
