I used to be in the "Dave is too mean" camp, but after watching what he's had to put up with and how they treat him over the course of three years, I can hardly blame him.
Its not good reasoning because you are basically generalizing all flat earthers as being equally disparaging and giving license to treat them all with disdain, which is basically just another form of discrimination. Not all Christians are fundamentalists and not all flat earthers are as hateful to globers, and even with those that are...your approach is basically encouraging escalation. When two groups keep insulting each other and are okay with it getting worse and worse, eventually it will lead to some nutcase attacking someone. You guys basically almost arrived to that point. You can't be "too mean" to a flat earther? You're already on the road to dehumanizing your opponents, and its not hard to imagine what a group of people who by all accounts are likely poorly educated are going to do in response. We saw this when Trump encouraged a mob to form to "take back their country" after the "election was rigged". They tend to get violent if you push them over the edge. So please just think a little harder about your moral values and consider what you are pushing for. Its not "cool" to hate on people because you think its funny or because they belong to a cult. If anything they deserve sympathy and a helping hand, and if they are being antagonistic then just leave them alone. What Dan said to the flat earther in their debate was completely uncalled for. However smart he is he lacks the basic emotional intelligence to understand that when you treat people like crap, they are far less likely to understand your point and much more likely to respond with aggression. Ugh....all you guys make me so sad. No one understands what should be common sense.
"Response to Globebusters - The Earth Still Isn't Flat" with nearly 11 million views, is still the gold standard in debunking flat earth. Plus it's funny as hell. It makes me laugh every time I watch it! Professor Dave rules.
I agree, I love to watch that video every time I have a chance. It's a little annoying because it's kind of long, but anytime I have a spare hour, I'll go back and watch that because it's really funny and really fun, too.
I laughed at how the host tried to get Dave to go easy on the callers, then the 1st caller came on and showed exactly why Dave treats them with such contempt.
He was in a mental institution this is the reason for his aggressive behavior. Only insecure person act with passive agressive behavior like he do. Not to mention he is not even real professor, guy is fraud.
@@ivanpavao6532 did you even hear the call? The guy was saying the most moronic things imaginable. He was also denying obvious everyday stuff. Professor Dave definitely SHOULD tell it how it is to these nincompoops.
To be fair, lead by example is still a good tactic. You draw more flies with honey than vinegar. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind etc. Then consider how the human ego protects itself and remember a time when your mind was changed by an aggressive person. It creates a defensive barrier. Sometimes people are wise and take wisdom from it and can overcome that barrier. But we are dealing with people who are this deep down the rabbit hole. I'm all for standing up for yourself, but swinging down is rarely productive or helpful for anyone involved.
As a junior college dropout, I found myself going down the RUclips rabbit hole and started to believe some of this garbage, Dave really brought me back down to earth, I appreciate him so much
Yup watching too much of these videos gets u paranoid and start believing. That’s why most flat earthers are middle aged people who just downloaded tiktok 😂
It's amazing how easily even an intelligent person can be manipulated... this is why we need science because otherwise we can have no common facts to base our decisions on.
yes! So i consider myself pretty smart. I graduated college etc and have always been obsessed with space and mars missions and moon landing etc. But after a month on twitter my feed just filled up with flat earth videos. I knew the flat earth crap wasn't real but some of the things I saw and were brought up had my head scratching. Then i came here and was so relieved to find that it really is all just lies. Thank you Dave.
I can kind of see how some people would get mad at Prof Dave for being so dismissive, but when the people he’s talking to are literally just saying “Nope, that don’t happen,” as “proof” for what they believe, frankly they don’t deserve better.
Yeah except what there saying nope for is literal science that has been proven. In contrast one could easily take what the Dave Farina is saying nope about and look up the answer and it would be there. On the other hand with the other Dave, things he says nope about dont even exist nor make any logical sense, or he says other people have said things for him where as Dave F explains himself.
it´s kind of devastating to see the transformation of dave over time watch his first video about faltearth that is just the finish of his astronomie series where he is ful of joy to teach ppl science to his point. this ppl don´t deserve better but dave does deserve better
I understand being dismissive and holding flat eathers in contempt, but it's far more entertaining to follow them deep into their reasoning and give them the rope to hang themselves. You can do this simply by asking the right questions. I would have asked the caller which specific flight route he was referring to, and get him to make some very specific claims. People yelling past one another is not that interesting to watch.
Dave isn't being dismissive, being dismissive involves being disingaged from the debate. Dave has shown why the flat earth model is wrong numerous times with detailed explainations through different videos and debates. The real problem is that he is actually giving them TOO MUCH of his time. Honestly if the "science" and models that flat earthers try espousing consistently get negative results from their OWN expirenments and fail to learn anything from those expirences, then they deserve all the ridicule they get.
There was a legitimate misunderstanding between the two, dave was implying the sky rotates from our perspective, and tre heard "the earth does not rotate, the sky is moving around us", and dave didn't pick up on this. honestly a terrible debate.
@@johnthemachine in all honesty, Dave tried to clear that up. Tre immediately used that as ammo and went "OH MY GOD YOUR BRAIN IS DEAD ARE YOU SERIOUS OH MY GOD", it's clear he doesn't want to clear it up on his side either.
"Not all flat earthers believe in the same thing." Dude, that's not a selling point, that's a detriment to your conclusions. The fact hat you have different maps between groups of believers and even different maps to explain different points within the same groups is the biggest and reddest of red flags.
Pretty much like the religious person, that thinks the fact, that so many people believe in different religions, is an argument for the genuinity of their particular religion
Tre debunked the flat-earth nonsense himself just by saying "not all flat earthers believe the same thing." That's the problem! there is no one single flat earth theory. They're all different. meanwhile, those of us who live in reality, all believe the same thing about the earth
@@mpmedia6735 yes, for different phenomena, but not for the shape of the Earth. Unless someone can give a better theory than the consensus of the heliocentric model, the Earth will currently be described as an oblate spheroid.
That is not possible! You have to fly over the north pole if you fly in a straight line because the earth is flat! Or maybe this is the misleading part. So please pay attention cause this is the tricky part you have to fly close to Antartic over a circular flight path. (For the stupid ones among us, the above is called irony)
“Debating” a flat earther is like playing chess with a pigeon. It doesn’t matter what you do they will just strut around, shit on the board and declare themselves the winner.
Ngl, a pigeon declaring itself winner at chess would already be impressive. Kinda fits considering how low the bar must be set when it comes to flat earthers.
@@kremlinbasement7768 Sure....if you mean the nonsensical “arguments” that have been proven invalid a million times then yes, they do like to regurgitate words.
Professor Dave, I hope my comment makes it to your eyes at some point. I know you’re a busy guy so reading every comment on your RUclips channel is likely impossible. But I’ll leave this in the hope that you see it at some point. Mostly I want to say thank you. My daughter has some slight learning disabilities and her mother, my ex wife, is a flat earther. My daughter is 15 but with her learning issues has roughly a 2nd or 3rd grade math and science capability. Her mother had at one point attempted to “teach” my kid flat earth garbage. Basically, she was unsuccessful in part because I found your channel. The higher level debunks were a bit over her head, as physics and some other things are a bit out of reach for her still. But your videos that used zero science and only needed observation are the thing that made the switch flip in her brain. So you at bare minimum helped a LOT in saving her from the flat rabbit hole. We watched several of your other debunk videos and a lot of the more intricate science started to stick with her as well. Then, as I searched around on your channel, I found your tutorial videos. They’re absolutely amazing and are helping her with every aspect of math and science in school. They’re presented in a way that’s perfect for her. So we’ve been going through a bunch of your older videos and hitting all the stuff that’s at her level. And that level is going up very quickly! Plus, it’s given her a way to get legitimately interested in science, which had not been the case before. Your channel has become an invaluable resource for my family. I thank you so much!
Excellent to hear. Dave probably is super busy, but this is the type of stuff anyone who loves science and teaches it like to here. It is part of why they do what they do. Flat Earth seems harmless at first glance, but it isn't harmless. Denial of reality leads to destruction. There are countless examples from the past where nonsensical ideas have lead to death and destruction. I am glad your daughter has been steered away from the Flat Earther stuff and hope she continues to learn and grow.

That caller can't seem to grasp that when Dave talks about the sky moving, he means from the vantage point of someone standing on a rotating earth. I find it weird that the caller couldn't figure that out and instead just kept getting angrier and more reactionary.
Exactly. The caller was completely hung up on semantics. Anyone with a shred of intelligence and comprehension understands that Dave meant that the sky appears to move from the observers point of view and the way it rotates is consistent with what you would expect to see from the surface of a spherical Earth. If the Earth was flat and just spinning, the sky would appear to rotate in a completely different manner.
True and actually the sky is moving as well technically speaking. I mean the stars we see that are un our galaxy are moving as they are orbiting the galactic center. The Andromeda galaxy is moving towards us. There are binary stars that are orbiting their Barrycenter. So yeah the sky, and everything you see in ut, is in fact moving. Thus is why when I am laying on the couch watching football and someone calls me a lazy bum for not moving I have to correct them because: The Earth is rotating on its axis; the Earth is also orbiting the sun which itself is rotating on its axis and is also orbiting the galactic center and pulling the earth along with it and the galaxy as a whole is dragging everything towards the Andromeda galaxy so I am technically moving in no less than 4 different ways.
@daemonthorn5888 The earth is not flat and spinning. It's a non-rotating stationary plane. The Antarctica circle is the ice barrier holding in our oceans. The sun moon and stars revolve around the north star as a perfect clock and time piece, never changing. Man has been using the same stars to navigate since the beginning of time.
I love how Dave was like, "All these people have is, 'No you can't'" And the VERY FIRST CALL was exactly that. And then if you ever did book the flight, take video of the boarding, takeoff, flight and landing with complete iternary, Tre would just dismiss it as you being paid off to deceive people. As Dave said, these people are not interested in discovering the truth, they just want their delusions to be true no matter what. Contrast this with their 100% reliance on the say-so of their FE priests that the Earth is flat, with not a shred of evidence for their baseless assertions. It really isn't about the shape of the Earth, as Dave says - it all stems from a belief that there are conspiracies afoot, propagated by "the government", NASA, scientists, teachers, Jews, "the illuminati", etc, and the FE priests skilfully massage this state of mind to produce an unshakeable belief that one of these conspiracies concerns the shape of the Earth. I think what people tend to ignore about these conspiracy theorists, is that this cult that they are in serves some unmet emotional need for them. They have this overwhelming desire to feel special, or contrarian, or to feel validation that they are willing to sacrifice nearly anything to satiate that void. There is no amount of evidence that they would accept that proves they are wrong, and the goal posts MUST shift necessarily to maintain their state. It's self indulgent, and narcissistic, but most of all it's incredibly sad.
I wonder how many extremist conspiracy theorists have positive relationships with persons other than their mothers? Or with their on-line conspiracy group buddies? It's an obsession, like all others, which serves to distract the person from feelings of sadness and emptiness. All obsessions serve to mask negative feelings. Strip them away & the person previously encumbered with obsessive feelings about whatever, will suddenly feel the full weight of their real feelings and worries. Their self image will crumble if they lose the support of the others in their nutty conspiracy groups. They will lose their identity which is why they fight so hard to maintain their membership in the group. Being mavericks, free-thinkers or one of 'the few' to see the truth makes them special and brings the members closer together. Perhaps if we look at what has changed in human society that might go a long way to explain why we've entered this post-truth era and what human needs are no longer being met by society.
To me, they're the epitome of Lazy. They want to feel special, but don't want to learn anything to earn that distinction. They also want to be a part of something revolutionary, because everyone has already done most of it, they just can't accept that they're simply just people. I look at the world and stare in awe everyday. Why they can't see the beauty in this world will always baffle (and sadden) me.
Very well said. To reinforce what you’re saying, they like to feel like individuals, like they’re going against the grain of the crowd and who have their own set of unique beliefs, and that they can’t trust anyone but themselves, which may be ironic due to the fact they basically operate as a cult, which is an extreme of collectivism.

The common sense response would be "Absolutely, lets go. You buy the tickets, I'll be there and history will be made." But the outright refusal to even take up that offer...means it's not so much that you think it's not real, but more so you are terrified of the reality of it being real and the implications it would have on your beliefs.

It really makes me worry for humanity socially when there are that many gullible people who don't know how to actually use their thought process to arrive at actual Truth. Instead, much like I was, most people are content to fill in the gaps of their knowledge with things they prefer to believe. Because of this, they get swindled, duped into scams, and believe just about any argument presented by a person who looks good and talks with confidence. Humanity today is a sea of people ripe for exploitation.. That honestly breaks my heart..
I come from the back water state of Kansas/ joke and we were taught about logical fallacies in high school. Or Maybe I just had a good English and speech/debate teachers and that there is a major problem too about certain groups of individuals that want dumber people. Using property tax to fund schools etc
@@Michael-sb8jf That's good you got taught that. I Certainly didn't. But I did have a science teacher who went out of his way to teach us 10th graders about Roman Numerals when he found out that no ones English class was doing it. I'm glad he did because even at 35, I'm usually the only person in a room who knows how to read them. I guess every once in a while, you get a genuinely great teacher who goes an extra mile for you.
@@pepperVenge That's bizarre! Is that common for the US? Like, what about all the clocks that are in Roman numerals? I'm in Scotland and we were taught them in school because they come up quite frequently and so it's a sensible thing to teach children. We learned them in primary school, I think in primary 3 (so, 6-8 year olds).
I'm Australian and, Tre...buddy, I can promise you from my own experience, and many, many friends and family that have done it, that we can infact fly from Australia, to South Australia and New Zealand...and many other cities in South America...Heck, I'm flying to NZ next week and it only takes 3 hours 😂😂😂 I promise, I've done it. Flat earth believers are 100% convinced the earth is flat. Therefore when any proof is given that opposes that their first response is not to try and understand the proof but to immediately think of any way it can't be true or is a lie. Once they have any vaguely plausibly sounding explanation they are happy to stop there rather than testing it further to see if it works.
Definitely. I explained clearly to a flat earther how celestial navigation using a sextant, done by sailors for hundreds of years, would be impossible to do if the earth was flat and invited him to try it out. He basically said that he didn't need to because celestial navigation has been working all this time so it must work on a flat earth. No attempt at all to challenge his beliefs.
"People who believe in flat-earth, believe in every other conspiracy. it is the overarching one". Never before have I heard a statement so profoundly unquestionable, it felt like a hammerblow to the senses.
My grandma was a flatearther, but she isnt anymore because i had her watch professor dave's videos and she actualy learned a thing (but shes now following cosmic mysticism :( science is hard i guess)
I saw a US school textbook from the 1850s and it said the earth was shaped like an orange (not perfectly round but basically a sphere) and it had all the moon cycles and eclipse. Was pretty cool. It was pretty accurate.
If you flew a flat earther to space, they would deny they were in space. They’d accuse the pilot of flying them to just under the firmament. They’d say visible curvature was caused by refraction. They’d think the windows of the shuttle were actually LCD screens. NOTHING will convince them.
Great collaboration, Professor Dave. It seems you've picked up almost another 100,000 subscribers since this exchange took place. The best channel on the internet for education and scientific reason continues to grow!
There should be 10,000s of videos & pictures from satellites in space, recent India's moon landing & others from the moon showing a "Spinning Earth in real time". But they & Da da da dave will avoid, jump around, outright deceive & twist the question until he explains away the truth. If only they could show the videos...but they can't, WHY ?
Some flat earther bought a $25,000+ optic gyroscope for the Globe busters to "prove flat earth," but it only proved the globe; I wonder how that person felt after spending that much money.
I’d love to see flat earthers explaining “sunset”. It’s simply impossible to explain how the sun disappears vertically in the horizon if we’re living on a disc.
They claim - or atleast David Weiss does - that it doesn't actually go under the horizon, but it fades out of vision just on the line. Then he shows some bs footage that's obviously edited, but he keeps calling NASA's images edited 🤣 Flat Earthers are fucking wild, sure their theories are funny but... Humanity, come on :(
No one believes we live on a disc man. The sun isn't setting, it's just leaving your vision because it's going so far away on a such a huge plane that it appears to be setting but if you were to pull out a camera that could zoom in x100...it brings the sun back into sight.

I personally would love a gay romance novel about a guy named Dave who believes in the globe earth and a guy named Tre who believes in a flat earth where they go on a circumpolar navigation trip together and slowly discover not only the globe-but also each other 💞
To be honest, i admire Professor Dave for keeping his cool. I would just totally go off on these flat earthers, but that's because I have a low tolerance for idiots.
Ssme here. In my case I wouldn't even talk to them at all. I generally dismiss idiots as if they are not even there. Thats why I like these videos. They accomplish what I woild.never bother to do
The humbling take is that we all likely hold opinions that are to some extent measurably false (based on outdated info, connected to a dearly held belief, convenience etc) Though that ofc doesnt mean one needs to entertain those who jumped off the deep end either, just that were all idiozs in some capacity 😉
Tre didn't understand that when you said "sky" you meant observable celestial objects such as stars. He literally thought you meant the sky moves over head. Which should tell you everything you need to know about his critical thinking and understanding.
No. Tre understood. But taking Dave's description literally is a the only way he can bring Dave down to his level. To Tre, Dave saying the sky rotates, is like gold. It gives him ammo to bring back to his fellow flat earthers so they can all say Tre made Dave look like a fool. They'll all be high diving each other telling each other Dave thinks the sky moves. And every single one of them, including Tre, know exactly what Dave meant. They all know that he meant the earth rotates making the sky look like it's moving. That's flat Earth. They fight strawmen and shadows. They ignore evidence of people circumnavigating the globe. They ignore Metallica playing a show in Antarctica. They grab any misquote they can.
Tre argues like a kid in a playground, who picks out one thing you’ve said then runs around the playground yelling that you said it, no take-backsies. Because that’s how mature debate happens /s
I was having an online heated discussion with a flat earther who was adamant New Zealand doesn’t exist and at the end of the conversation he said “no hard feelings” and I said “great” and he then asked me “so where are you from?” And I replied “New Zealand.”

I don't think he's mean enough with those cult leaders.

I like how he accused that Dave just said "No" to everything and then proceeded to say "No" to everything.
Ya professor dave actually explains why the other guy is wrong
There was a legitimate misunderstanding between the two, dave was implying the sky rotates from our perspective, and tre heard "the earth does not rotate, the sky is moving around us", and dave didn't pick up on this. honestly a terrible debate.

What do you expect from flat earth brainlets? Logic is foreign to them
True and actually the sky is moving as well technically speaking.
"You believe the sky is moving!"
Okay, what's the issue here? Why is that a problem?
@daemonthorn5888 The earth is not flat and spinning. It's a non-rotating stationary plane. The Antarctica circle is the ice barrier holding in our oceans. The sun moon and stars revolve around the north star as a perfect clock and time piece, never changing. Man has been using the same stars to navigate since the beginning of time.
We all should suddenly claim the world is flat and then see if the flat earther claim we live on a globe.
I love how Dave was like, "All these people have is, 'No you can't'" And the VERY FIRST CALL was exactly that. @@scarlett8960 This is the gold standard for flattards - simply deny all and every instance of evidence demonstrating that the Earth is a globe, that space exists, that videos from space are anything other than CGI. Sadly, it seems that the weak and stupid are the most numerous of the sheep being shorn by these charlatans.
I think it's not much as they want their delusions to be true, but rather than their ego is so big that the fact they themselves believe those delusions is all the proof one needs to mark said delusions as truth.

Underrated comment.

To reinforce what you’re saying, they like to feel like individuals, like they’re going against the grain of the crowd and who have their own set of unique beliefs, and that they can’t trust anyone but themselves, which may be ironic due to the fact they basically operate as a cult, which is an extreme of collectivism.

No one believes we live on a disc man. The sun isn't setting, it's just leaving your vision because it's going so far away on a such a huge plane that it appears to be setting but if you were to pull out a camera that could zoom in x100...it brings the sun back into sight.
@@koixcoulter Really? Do this test then: pick up a device that can zoom 100x or more, wait the sun goes out of your sight and try to look it. This is so absurd, omg
@@koixcoulter if you can take a picture of the sun at midnight by zooming in past the horizon I'll give you a hundred bucks
@@kdaviper that's a little extreme. Obviously not what I meant, come on now Kyle
There are currently direct flights between Sydney Australia and Johannesburg South Africa via Qantas airlines once a day. Starting in September there are three direct flights a week scheduled between Johannesburg and Sao Paulo Brazil with LATAM airlines.
Flat earther like Tre: “NUH UHHHHH!” 😂
"THeY neVEr TaKE ofF"
I personally would love a gay romance novel about a guy named Dave who believes in the globe earth and a guy named Tre who believes in a flat earth where they go on a circumpolar navigation trip together and slowly discover not only the globe-but also each other 💞
Wow, 3 months later, I don't remember leaving this comment, but I'm still down for this, ngl
write it
Lol!
They accomplish what I woild.never bother to do
The humbling take is that we all likely hold opinions that are to some extent measurably false (based on outdated info, connected to a dearly held belief, convenience etc)
Though that ofc doesnt mean one needs to entertain those who jumped off the deep end either, just that were all idiozs in some capacity 😉
Same! Nothing annoys me more than smoothbrains that think they are smart, nothing can make them change their mind.....
Same
Tre didn't understand that when you said "sky" you meant observable celestial objects such as stars.
Me as an undergrad in aerospace engineering waiting to get paid to keep the "flat earth secret"..... please i need the money
😂
RIGHT!? By the time I got to my dissertation hearing, my bank account's fumes were running on fumes
Where's my millions in hush money and secret sex party!?
DIRTH actually said that daylight is not caused by the Sun during Prof Dave's destruction of him. That has got to be the stupidest thing any human has ever said...ever!
I don't know about that. I have heard flat earthers say some pretty stupid stuff. It's a close call.
DIRTH also talked about the “false sun” that causes eclipses. 😊
I don't know, the one guy seing an overexposed video of the sun, where it looks black and saying that is the "real sun", I think tops that one.
I have actually heard flat earth mentioned in school curriculum growing up. I don't remember what book exactly, but they weren't teaching it as fact they were describing the progress humanity has made in finding our place in the universe.
@derp8575 no it wasn't 😅
@@skylermccloud6230 Well it was. There are even maps with graphics of ships fall off the edge at a time when they thought the earth was flat. What the OP is saying is that we were taught that people thought the earth was flat not that they thought the earth was flat at his, her or my time at school.
@@watkinsrory nope we've known it's a globe for the past 3000 years or so at least kinda weird how the ancient Greeks also said what our government said also if you believe ships sail off the edge then your a fu**** dumb *** I ain't scared to curse it's bleeped out so I don't get blocked from commenting for 24 hours
Where are their pictures of a flat Earth? Where is the edge of the Earth?
it's in Antarctica behind the ice wall guarded by NASA 😂
"Kent Hovind makes fun of flat earthers. That's how dumb it is!". LMAO :-D
Dave: people just say no to things that happen and/or are possible
Minutes later...
Tre: No....No....No
Tre is a classic, just literally denying fact. It's a shame none of them shared their screen and showed how you can book a flight in the southern hemisphere
"lets take it offline and prove it", 2 seconds later "lets go online and book the flight"
I can’t believe people are saying Prof. Dave is being “too mean”. I am literally yelling at the screen watching these lobotomites try and explain flat earth. How can you blame him for being frustrated????
The conversation with Tre was driving me nuts, lol.
Me too. Dave has insane patience.
Buzz said “because we didn’t go there” in response to a question from an 8 year old to mean we didn’t go BACK there.
they love to leave that part out.
Quote mining is there favorite thing to do
Just l8ke gun nuts like to leave out the bit about a "well organized militia"
