  • In a sensational three days, an ancient site yields burials dating back to 2000BC, along with rare Saxon brooches, beads, spears and jewellery.
    In the middle of the army training ground on Salisbury Plain, just a mile from Stonehenge, is the extraordinary Barrow Clump.
    It's a huge mound of earth built by Bronze Age people to bury their dead. More than 2500 years later, the Anglo-Saxons re-used Barrow Clump, burying their dead with staggering artefacts. But it's now being destroyed by badgers.
    At the dig site, Tony and the Team join soldiers from Operation Nightingale, who are being trained in archaeology as part of their recovery after being wounded or traumatised in Afghanistan.
    Working alongside these soldiers is a moving and thought-provoking experience, as modern-day warriors respectfully uncover the remains of their ancient predecessors.
    As the finds pile up, pottery dates the earliest burial to around 2100 BC - much the same time as when the big stones went up at nearby Stonehenge.
    And the Saxon finds speak of a relatively wealthy, cosmopolitan people living in the area in the sixth century.

    This has to be one of my favorite shows. Seeing this program set up and helping vets is beyond amazing. Working with all the "hippies" out there in the field. I loved that quote. :) Thanks for the much loved good heart feelings. And thanks to those military that have served.

    The Military doesn't always get it right, but when they do they hit it out of the Park! What a great program! The locus of PTSD-driven depression is the sense of not being able to keep a bad thing from happening. And, there is no better way to address this than guiding a person to rediscover their empowerment. This dig was exactly what damaged individuals needed and plainly found its mark with the vets that were interviewed. Can't say enough good things about what I just saw!

    So. Unless you think I just crush on Helen and Raksha, I love Phil. Phil takes care of those around them and mocks them and cares for them and makes them feel safe. Who wouldn't love him. Don't think I wouldn't. I do. I love Phil. Look how he empowers the soldiers that work for him. It's just instinct with him to build folk up. Love him

    I've watched this entire show from S1 up to this episode, which I've just started. At 5:38 I realized I was watching with a huge grin on my face for no other reason than I have come to love this show so stinking much. Even S19 is better than pretty much anything else I could be watching. Covid19 and all the quarantining and cancellations are happening around me right now but this show has been a balm these last weeks. An absorbing distraction and so much more. And Phil! Out of them all he's been the most endearing and entertaining. Thank you ever so much Reijer Zaaijer for making them available to people like me, long late to the party that is TT, but no less a fan for all that.

    • @k-matsu
      @k-matsu 2 года назад +2

      So true. Im convinced that the decision to dump Helen and Stuart in S19 was the biggest reason why the show collapsed (well... that and Mick leaving). The revival of the show needs to keep in mind that the protagonists need to be the experts. You have to build the show around people like Helen, Stuart, Phil, John...
      I should add that I dont think Mary-Anne Ochoa was the disaster some people have made her out to be. The producers viewed her as Tony's potential replacement, which means asking a lot of questions, listening politely and making funny quips. But of course, that "script" made her seem clueless and superfluous - particularly when compared to past TT stars like Helen Geake, Carenza Lewis, Brigid Gallagher and more. If they had straight-up retired Tony, she might have been an OK choice as a new MC. But based on what the scripts called for her to do, its no wonder why she wasnt taken seriously by viewers.

      Of course they have it, too. Unless you mean that your true enemy, i.e. your greedy, psychopathic masters, don't have it, which is most likely the case. These people systematically dehumanize the designated enemy they got you to fight because that makes it easier to get your cooperation to do their dirty work. (Besides, it's an age old human psy-op (or self psych-out). Our earliest ancestors in their tiny bands gave themselves a name meaning human being, and all other people outside their group were not considered to be human. Apparently survival meant killing others on sight, and that's not as difficult if they're not like you.)

    As an American addicted to the TT, I can't get enough of this show,but this show I felt was one of the best not because of its finds but because of who was doing the digging.. British HEROS.. I'm glad they made it home alive and I'm happy to hear they find this therapeutic in their recovery efforts. Maybe one day there will another show like TT but with these Soldiers taking the charge instead while helping other men and women like it had helped them.. Thank you for service,dedication, honor and heroism from the other side of the pond..

    I've been watching Time Team episodes like a mad woman and have watched 30+ episodes, but this was, by far, the most inspiring. Warriors of today shining light on warriors of the past. To see archaeology used to bring soldiers back from the brink and inspire them to move forward is such a phenominal experience. Thank you to the uploader for creating the opportunity to view this and to Time Team for producing this episode. Maybe this idea will catch on in the US and we can encourage and inspire our own injured soldiers in this way.

      These people were shot at/blown up because they joined an army that subsequently invaded another country and in view of recent developments in Iraq and Afghanistan we may well ask (apart from the lining the pockets of Bush and Cheneys companies Blackwater and Halliburton and ensuring the continued expansion of Al Qaeda) what was achieved.
      The neo con press is getting us ready for the next war too, if you doubt what I say read the Sabre rattling articles of Tim Stanley or just look at your local newspapers with your eyes open.

    You know, I ran across Time Team videos pretty randomly because I always loved archaeology. (When I was a child I used to bury things for future archaeologists, even. Hel, every time I make a wall I put a coin with a good date in a plastic bag underneath . :) ) But, this show's actually real good for PTSD. It's smart people you may like going through rational processes. For reasons. That happen to be *over.*
    PTSD can be terrible, and maybe it never totally goes away, but it can get better and this show can help while it does or on nights when it doesn't. Anyway, my thanks to all involved. It really helps.
    "Can be terrible." Understatement. But this is more interesting.

    Studying history gives us some idea of how we got into the mess we're in now. For a soldier suffering from PTSD this is already therapeutic. Add to this the hands on work among their friends and peers who have been through many of the same trauma's, and you have a recipe for healing. *All soldiers who are wounded and suffering physically and or mentally deserve to have their stories told like this.* I wish them all peace and prosperity. ^-^

    I've watched and listened to every single episode of Time Team numerous times over the past month or so. It plays in the background while I'm working and while I'm gardening and keeps my mind off the current world madness and past pains. Exactly what it is about it...their jovial manner, the stories, their enthusiasm, my past obsession with archaeology, the familiarity of the individual characters through every episode...I don't know, but this show is definitely "balm to the brain" as Sherlock Holmes might say. And I even discovered a new jewellery making technique courtesy of the show, cuttlebone casting. Education, light entertainment and company all rolled into one. Simply enjoyable.

    Absolutely a great partnership that benefits so many people, who deserve it so much. Metal detecting gives the thrill of discovery and has proven to be archaeologically important and therapeutic, too. Although it's likely to be a more solitary adventure than the throng of Time Team, it's amazing what antiquarian finds lie beneath our feet. Way to go guys...all of you. Hoorah.

    Between covid and having back surgery I have been watching Time Team from season 1. I must admit that I am crazy about Phil Harding. His sexy shorts are so cute. This biography does not mention that he ever married or had children. I imagine he was living a good life on his terms and had plenty of good company. I love his laugh. Wish I could have had a beer with him

    That 'Last Post' did it. Until then I had been able to hold back my tears. Sigh!!! May God make it easy for you guys and bring you comfort and the ability to recover and carry on a productive and whole life. And I wish the same for the many thousands of men all over the world who likewise suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Be strong. Best Wishes.
    I come from a land far away from Afghanistan or the Middle East (nothing to do with Islam) where the same thing happened. Three of my brothers likewise have suffered with P.T.S.D. for many years and it has not been at all easy for them. Even though this syndrome haunts them constantly, they have been able to carry on and have been very successful. Although it is not so bad now, I myself suffer from shell shock from being in the vicinity of a massive bomb blast. The only thing I find very hard to handle is people playing double bass ghetto music. Each beat is like the impact of a bomb.

    Helen, welcome back. Hang in there. You provided more information, etc. in five minutes than the other woman did in a whole series.

    • @ndotgw
      @ndotgw 8 лет назад +2

      You are disparaging all the other women who, alongside Helen, have contributed their expertise to Time Team.

    • @Wotdermatter
      @Wotdermatter 8 лет назад +3

      Not so. Just being truthful, as many others did with similar comments. I am not a "politically correct" person and still call a spade a spade, or if you prefer a "policeman a policeman," not a police person, and so no. Therefore, where is my disparagement, or are you so "politically correct" you now call a manhole cover a road-hole cover, an actress an actor, a comedienne a comedian, so that no gender is attached to the position and it becomes difficult to distinguish between a male and a female? Sorry, but I do not agree with that movement and if a person does not perform, as that one didn't, then a spade is a spade. No return comment needed as I will maintain the same stance.

    • @ndotgw
      @ndotgw 8 лет назад +3

      +Wotdermatter My reply had nothing to do with political correctness, but that you "dissed"-disparaged-every single woman, other than Helen, as not being knowledgeable, which is a complete untruth as many of them are considered, by experts, as experts in their fields.

    • @Wotdermatter
      @Wotdermatter 6 лет назад

      That was not my intention. In fact, I singled Helen out as an example because there were many who deserved the same accolade. Just a pity so many fine young ladies left, for whatever reasons, and the final replacement did not match up to the same level of acceptance by many viewers or even by Mick. Obviously, you missed the point I was making but that's OK. Also, you seem to forget that I was welcoming Helen on her return. As I said, she contributed much expertise, as did many others, whereas the one did not appear to find a niche nor display any area of expertise.
      'nuf sed.

    I can understand fully why time team keeps me watching again and again. the soldiers said it true..tteam helps me get thru the hard days of depression and pain. medical answers and medication does not always seem to help or answer. soldiers like myself just want to remember and be like everyone else. going thru everyday life. time team has helped me more than I can say. I just hope it remains on RUclips. I have been re watching since 2010. to all of the soldiers remember who you are and you are important to someone beside yourself. I remain positive to this day some 30 plus years out of regular service.
    it stays with you always.....ooh ra!

    How could people dislike this? It is full of all things that made us human - humbleness to humour. The soldiers are brilliant men and my heart breaks when I hear their tragic stories of readjustment. They put their lives on the line for those ignorant idiots who dislike this video.

    • @albundy9597
      @albundy9597 4 года назад +1

      I liked this video as well but let us remember that nobody forced these men to be soldiers, it is a job that they wanted and this job entails not only shooting people in a foreign country but being shot at as well. People in general don't like foreign soldiers on their soil so obviously they are going to resist, it is a danger they were aware of but many can't wait to get into action, "it won't happen to me" of course when it does they get all teary eyed. No they didn't sacrifice their lives or their health because if they could have seen into the future they wouldn't have gone, it was an adventure gone wrong.

      No one asked them to do that. They did it on their own. And they put their lives on the line for government agendas not us.

    How wonderful to.see soldiers that were injured physically & mentally scarred getting a new truly beneficial purpose doing this amazing dig which gave these soldiers therapy changing their lives for the better knowing that they were responsible for uncovering an amazing part of Britans history working with Time Team. I wonder if America would follow suit helping our military recover from war while uncovering American history. .

I have been seriously ill the last 2 months and Time Team has given me hours of enjoyment and for that I'm incredibly thankful. I have learned so much and giggle each time I hear terms in audiobooks I listen too...like Clinker Construction...I now know what that means or revetment ...lol :)

      No, If just....:-) I digged in a graveyard together with an archeologist in a place called Brynshoej in North west Zealand, near Hoejby, Denmark. We found 15 glass beads, fibulas, clasps, knives and such. They say, this finds are unique.

    There is another possibility for the lack of wear on the weapons, as is the case today these Warriors were buried in the equivalent of a modern dress uniform as many are buried in today.

    I just found these Time Team videos, thanks to Reijer Zaaijer. I see that people's comments from years ago say that it is calming to watch...LOL I fall asleep listening to these videos! The people in the show are upbeat and funny, and it is very interesting. l'm not exactly sure why they sooth me, but like Bob Ross, and his "happy little clouds" they're quite therapeutic.
