I’ve been a zen Buddhist for decades. In the new year I started praying the rosary every day, first thing in the morning, and Mother Mary brought me to the church through it. I’m now working on praying my rosary more than once a day and including the liturgy of the hours, lectio divina, etc. You and the Hallow app have been such a blessing in my spiritual life Father Shmitz, thank you
Lord Jesus I keep faith even as I struggle as a single mother. Both of my sons have special needs. They require so much from me yet I know I AM BLESSED to be their mother. Lord Jesus give me strength as I struggle providing the basic necessities like clothing and groceries. Lord Jesus please continue to carry me through this difficult time help me provide for my children. Amen.💕
Amen.❤
Amen. Stay strong momma❤❤❤

Praying for you 🙏
Please pray for me. I was so far from God. Please please please pray for my soul, I had a father wound from him passing on my 6th birthday and I led a lost life without him.
I'm so sorry for your loss, and I could not imagine how devastating that was for you. Please remember, God loves you more than you could possibly imagine, and He has a plan for your life. I will pray for you!
Also, if you have never read it, I suggest reading "The Prodigal Son". Luke 15:11-32. I have personally found healing in this and it kind of came to mind when reading your post. God Bless.
Prayers that our Heavenly Father heals your heart and mind. God Bless!
May the Divine Grace of the Living Father Be with You in the name of the king of kings our lord and savior Jesus Christ.
Prayers for you and your father’s soul. And you are not far from God , please find a closer Catholic church and sit there (hopefully in the adoration chapel) and talk to Jesus. He is always listening, (even the worst sin can be forgiven) but we need to find a quite time to listen to Him.
“Beware lest your religion be one of sentiment merely, not of practice.”
-St. John Henry Newman
So that means we pray, right?
I've had this train of thought for years. When reading a standardized prayer or psalm, it is important to actually intend the words being read or sung. This takes concentration, dedication of attention to God. I like communicating personally with God in personal prayer.
♥️ Psalms 12 KJV 6 The words of the LORD _are_ pure words: _as_ silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
👑 KJV is the 7th bible translated into English.
1 Peter 1 KJV
23-25
1 Corinthians 15 KJV
1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
It is called Praying with the Heart. I learned that from a book of that name by a priest of Medjugorje. Took me a bit to transition how I was praying to someone somewhere far off to more talking to a close friend sitting near me. Much different!
These two....praise God for all the good they have done and continue to do for so many within the Church and for bringing so many to Christ's Church! Thank you gentlemen! 🙏🏻❤️ ✝️🕊️
Excellent! I started Liturgy of the Hours a few months ago (yup, there’s an app for that!). I’m NOT a morning person. I carved out this time in the morning before breakfast - found my self singing one, then a few, of the psalms each day. It has become the highlight of my day. It is both joyous and calming. I feel “centered”. This is about 15 min of my morning with a shorter duration for the Night Prayers on Breviary. I only do those 2 parts each day. I also “chat” with God to recount the day and follow that with a rosary and some Fr. Mike & ‘Bible in a Year’. I’m not a fan of prepared prayers and I don’t know how all this happened to me, yet PRAYER is now an important part of my day. Prayer, contemplation, scripture reading and a chat - yes, indeed this is my most important relationship. Well done, gentlemen.
I’ve never understood the liturgy. It seems designed for mass, how do you read it at home?
I envy you... 😞
@@darrylcooper2587it's LITURGY OF THE HOURS. It's a set of catholic prayers that are meant to be prayed through our certain times during the day. You can Google to learn more
I'll join my hands whilst sitting on the bus, in my lap, prayer is really all you seem to have sometimes.
Amen
Yup.
The same goes for any relationship. You don't always want to spend time with your kids or your wife. But, even if you are worn out and not feeling any enthusiasm, if you put in the time, they value it and you yourself NEVER regret putting in the time later. At the end of your life, you won't look back and say, "I wish that I had spent LESS time with my loved ones." Even if the time spent with them was difficult, even if it felt fruitless while you were spending time with them, you NEVER regret it later. You might wish you had been more in the moment, but you won't wish that you hadn't even tried. The same should hold true with prayer. If you value God in your life, spend time with Him.
Every time I hear Bishop Barron speak, I feel inspired.
ST. TERESA OF AVILA: “Don’t think that if you had a great deal of time you would spend more of it in prayer. Get rid of that idea! God gives more in a moment than in a long period of time, for His actions are not measured by time at all. Know that even when you are in the kitchen, our Lord is moving among the pots and pans!”
@@GodLovesAll-j8j That is very comforting to know, because I spend a heck of a lot of time in the kitchen 🤣😍😍😍
“Dios está entre los pucheros”😊 😉 greetings from Avila, Spain! God bless you💕
Pots n pans that is my zone, busy physically during my day, but I try to send my mind and my heart are there with my lord as I pray, prayer is first and if I have trouble feeling the prayer and meditating on the words I’m saying to God then I just slow it down which means spending more time.. praying and trying to find what God wants me to find in the prayer time.
"My life is friendship with the Lord. Everything else follows...." Amen.🙏🏻
I’m not Catholic, I’m Lutheran, but I love these guys. When I pray, I’ve found my “inner self”, where all my secrets are, my fears, my hopes, my worries, my sins, my joys. St Thomas wrote that God is not a thing, God is not a being, but God is the pure act of to Be itself. Then it seems to me that in your inner being is where you find Him. I find Him there and I listen. There are times, often, when I hear…”come spend some time with Me.” I do and I am always better afterwards.
Praise glory and giving thanks to God.
I was taught to give God the first hour of my day. I get so blessed.
I wasn’t taught this but I’m doing it now. God will always be the center of my day. I’m not letting the Devil start my day.
Jesus Christ is the King,
Jesus Christ is the Lord
He is my Redemeer
And the Saviour of the World...❤
Brilliant. If God is most important in your life, spend time with Him.
Amen
Jesus said:
When you pray, there is no need to use many words. Your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Pray like this:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
ST. THOMAS AQUINAS: “The Lord’s Prayer is the best of all prayers: confident, ordered, suitable, devout and humble.”
I did this Advent prep with Fr Mike . It was one of the best preps I have ever done, and I have been practicing my Catholic faith for 50 years.
My life is friendship with the Lord. Truth in these words
The Surrender Novena helps me deepen my prayers. I pray it daily.
One of the older monks at Gethsemani, Br Christian if memory serves, once said that of the things that make up the monastic life-- work, reading, and prayer-- that the most important is the reading.
What he meant by that, I think, is that communal prayer is absolutely essential, but it is a corporate complement to the relationship the monk builds in the individual setting while reading. Of course, the reading is another form of prayer, and I'm certain he did not intend to denigrate the solemn duty of praying the hours in community, but it's something I've been thinking about for more than ten years.
I bought the new book by Bishop Barron and it's so good. It really teaches how to effectively Pray.
What's the name of the book?
@@diamondlou1 An introduction to Prayer; it's at Amazon but I couldn't paste the link.
Take the time. I agree that it's easier to pray now that I am older than when I was younger. I ask the Holy Spirit to help me learn how to pray correctly every day.
Fitting your life around prayer is absolutely wonderful and important, but I think there's also value in finding whatever small pockets of quiet you can use. My vocation is marriage and motherhood. We're about to have a 3rd baby and I have no idea when the last time was that I had an whole uninterrupted hour to myself!
Note its two unmarried men talking :) (I'm kidding, I'm kidding!)
Adoration is a life changer.
One doesn't t have to say anything ,father mike s expression ,face says it all !🤗 go father mike , go bishop baron !🤔
God bless you both, and thank you for your teachings, it helps alot! Prayer is always on attack, and i needed to hear this. Thanks!
Very helpful discussion! I struggle to keep my attention on the prayers. I start the first line or two of a prayer, and I find my mind wandering...my thought life being at odds with the prayer I am speaking. You encouraged me here to press forward, to not give up.
God Bless them both
Minute 6:00 "God you gave us these words, and we give them back to you" noted! . Thanks Bishop Barron and Fr. Mike. God bless you 🙏
Oh, you two are such blessing!!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is beautiful.
How thoughtful of God to arrange matters so that, wherever you happen to be born, the local religion always turns out to be the true one.
Richard Dawkins
Prayer now is like the air I breathe: I cannot live without it!
“ Oh God, you gave us these words”. That rang a bell. Thank you.
On Sunday, our parish made Bishop Barron's book, "An Introduction to Prayer" available for free. I picked up a copy and just started reading it and then this video popped up in my RUclips feed!
Definitely need this information in my life.
I don’t often sit still or apart while praying. My conversations are while I’m working (I farm and build and am an artist) asking God to guide my hands, keep my mind on task, my guardian angel to guard me from self-recriminations and second guessing, and I say the rosary while doing tedious repetitive tasks like weeding (one Hail Mary for 10 weeds; an Our Father for each new row) or digging. But I have been told this doesn’t count and sometimes I feel like it is sort of cheating. But when you work in isolation, I keep hoping for a conversation with this important person, but I’m not sure if this counts.
❤ It counts, it all counts and you have no idea how much. 🙏
One of my acquaintances argues that you can’t do the dishes and pray at the same time, that it’s cheating God. A friend of mine argued that it’s perfectly acceptable, that it’s better to pray ‘poorly’ than not at all… this rings true to me. Surely, we turn our mundane work into prayer and sanctify it when we do both at the same time? Also, I just can’t think of a benevolent God saying, ‘nope, sorry: that’s not good enough because you were folding laundry or cutting down a tree while we had a conversation. You have to give me every iota of physical attention while you pray.’ That sounds like human piety gone awry.
@ totally agree with you 🙏❤️
Brother Lawrence wrote Practicing the Presence of God. He prayed while working in the kitchen finding God amidst all of the pots and pans in the Monastery.
You are always praying. God bless you✝️
I like these two books. The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence and All for Jesus by Fr. Faber
Inspiring story, wishing everyone peace and love in God!
Fr. Mike please do a daily podcast of morning and evening prayer of the LOTH. It would be so awesome to pray it with you each day. Please let that be one of your next projects. I really believe so many people will follow along.
God bless you both-really helpful and practical insights! Lord Jesus Christ, son of God, have mercy on us!
Thank you for this discussion. It helps to know my struggles are not unique and neither are the solutions.
God bless you.
1Thessalonians 5;16 - 17 . “ Rejoice always, pray continually “ Brother Lawrence said ‘ I carry on an habitual and silent conversation with God , that fills me with overwhelming joy. I live as if there were no one save God and me in the world .’ ‘ One act of inward worship, is prayer - which however short , is never the less , acceptable to God .” Indeed the best life is ‘ friendship with the Lord .’
Thanks .
I love Msgr Sokolowski! I had him for a class in my pre-theology year that he taught at Catholic University of America titled, The Functions of Philosophy in Theology. It was the best class in terms of philosophical fundamentals and theological principles I ever took. He taught us how philosophy drives theology and that if you understand the philosopher, you will understand both the truth and the heresies that enter into theological thinking. He gave numerous examples of theological errors and from where the philosophy behind those errors derived, everything from second-century gnosticism, to Hegel, Kant, and the modernists who were, in essence, relativists whose philosophies were not consistent with divinely revealed truth.
Thank you both... excellent, helpful, and truly sincere discussion!!
God knows all of our fears, worries, wants and needs, when I pray it's to have a relationship with the Lord..❤
I agree with thee Bishop about praying first thing in the morning, "Give the Lord your First Fruits".
Love seeing these two in a video❤❤
I always pray that I become a successful Catholic Social Media Influencer to spread the teachings and Revelations of the Catholic Church and the entire Christendom. I hope and pray the Devotion to the Eucharist and the Holy Souls in Purgatory helps me.
Please pray 7 Hail Mary in honor of Our Lady of Sorrows and Tears
What is success to you?
What if you spread the teachings of the church only to your family and friends and your Parrish? Will that mean you’re unsuccessful?
+LONG LIVE OUR HOLY CHURCH.+
Fantastic message fellas. I appreciate the time taken to guide us. Design our life around our worship vs scheduling time for worship within our day "after" our own endeavors. God bless y'all, Happy Thanksgiving and I am praying for y'all pretty often, especially these days.
God gave man two hands to hold. He gave him eyes to see the truth. He gave him a heart to be compassionate and conscientious. He gave him intelligence so that he would not act irrationally. He gave him a mother and father to act humanely. He created him in societies to study civilization. He sent books to receive respectful information from religious officials. He gave him a temporary life to do good deeds for a permanent life. God made man a responsible servant to the entire universe, and equipped him with various talents to be useful, honest and exemplary. He created intelligence as hardware and insight as software. I present my greetings and respects to you valuable scholars with beautiful hearts and beautiful words.

I listen to Fr Mike daily!! Love him! And I like Bishop Baron as well. Two great men!!
A beautiful and powerful conversation shared with the world ❤ thank you
Yes, diffently, I understand both since 2nd grade. I was dieing, heart trouble, seizures, scars,. I had avisiting Priest weekly. I was very lucky
pray without ceasing!!!!
yeah I had the thought that I needed to talk to God and it had to be like a conversation like He is a human being sitting across the table, and I tried really hard to force it, and it made me realize that I'm not healthy enough. Like how some people are not ready for marriage because they aren't mature enough, they can't support a family, they don't know how to connect to people. In order for God to be present to me like a human sitting across the table, I need to be able to handle Him choosing not to be there, choosing to be somewhere else, choosing to not say what I want to hear, and being a person who I can't always understand. I'm too hungry for that deep down. I'm too scared and frayed and blinded. I do want to know God, and if I knew I would die tomorrow I think it would be a huge relief because that would mean tomorrow everything that is keeping me from being able to have that relationship with God will be burned away. So I have this abstract relationship with God right now, and I'm hoping that God wants to change things and be there for me in the way I feel like I need, and I'm just hoping that this is necessary distance right now that will make God's will happen in the world, and it will all be for the best
Hmm. I am troubled with a statement of “I’m not healthy enough”. As Father Mike says, we are ALL broken. Start right where you are. Allow yourself to fall - like learning to walk, or ride a bike! There’s NO “right way” to talk to God. If not a conversation across the table, how about a light talk with someone walking next to you? Can you imagine walking next to God? Having Him stand near you while you’re washing the dishes and maybe you are questioning things/events that happened during the day? I assure you that He will listen to all you have to say. Tell Him you’re uncomfortable❤. It’s just fine to be awkward 👍🏻. Hey, I’m just a person and I responded to you - just IMAGINE what God can do for you! May God bless you and comfort you. Now…..go have a chit chat with Him!
@@joannc147 haha yes, I talk but He doesn't respond. Things are a little abstract. I'm working on trusting. That's where we are starting. One thing I didn't mention is that a big part of the reason I'm not healthy enough is because I'm schizophrenic and it's easy for me to get confused that my hallucinations are Jesus' voice. But I don't think it's bad for things to be abstract while I'm getting better, I think it is pleasing to God that I just trust Him and wait for Him to reveal Himself while I get better. The exact same things happened with my mom and dad, they had to stay away from me a bit while I sorted out what I hallucinated them saying to me vs what they actually said to me, and it was all a work of love, so I'm sure it was pleasing to God.
@@Aaalllyyysssaaaaa I hope you'll be glad to read that we all go through times like that in prayer, it's not unique to you because of your illness. And all mental illnesses definitely make prayer harder. But you're absolutely doing the right thing by staying constant in your prayer, that's the MAIN thing! The rest will develop by itself while you keep constant, as it happens with any relationship.
Well done to you for your constancy while carrying such a heavy cross; so many people have it easier, yet have no constancy.
***A great line from the script of the "Chosen", when someone says "I am not worthy"...Mary of Magdala says, "He makes us worthy"‼️ A beautiful truth...None of us are worthy, but we come to our Lord because we need Him & He loves us no matter what. Just keep trying...God will "teach you & give you what you need. Sending a hug & prayers, Alyssa. ✝️❤✝️
@@Aaalllyyysssaaaaa Dear One - THAT is a very “healthy” reply from you! May God continue to bless you on this journey.🙏🏻 I cannot even fathom a life with confusing voices….that is terrifying to me. May your trust and surrender continue.❤ You got this! There is no fear or confusion in your comment. I admire you!
So many conversions lately. So many, its a miracle
ST. MOTHER TERESA OF CALCUTTA: “We create all kinds of difficulties in our prayer. Let us go back to what Jesus has taught - the intimate and simple prayer: ‘Our Father...’ Even little children can pray this.”
"if you show me your calendar, I will show you what you care about." Lets go ahead and adapt it to ' if you show me the history on your computer, I will show me what you care about."
I find myself internally speaking to God all throughout the day. Its the specific morning and nightly prayers that I'm not sure if I am doing it correctly.
Our Lady of Fatima said we should pray the rosary every day. Concentrate on the words of the prayers. It takes about a 1/2 hour.
Thank you brothers
completely understand Fr Mike. once the "rote" prayers are internalized, they become the vehicle for that which has no words. you feel inspired and they rise up on their own to express the spirit.
like any language, you learn by imitating and eventually you're making sentences on your own.
Enjoyed this conversation. Great job!
I love this!! Thank you!!
What a wonderful meeting of two great hearts & minds.
Thank you for sharing these wise words ❤
Christ the King come on glory!
Much Appreciated. 🙏🙏🙏
God is guiding me. Thank YOU.

Thanks!
A Christian should so hunger for God that time not spent with Him is considered wasted. ❤🔥 Yes, He is always with us anyway, but to carve out significant time with Him is critical. An hour is not a long time to be alone with the Beloved! It's not nearly enough.
This was so wonderful. Having watched you both for so many years as well as using videos from the both of you in teaching classes, it is refreshing to hear that the both of you also have the same problems that so many of us have in setting aside the time. Bishop Barron, like you ( at an older age than you ) I find than starting the day, with some kind of prayer and faith reading can set the tone for the day. Thank you both.
BL. SOLANUS CASEY: Thank God ahead of time.
Wonderful advice Bishop.
pray for me, i struggle with intrusive thoughts and unbelief
That's why Catholicism is genius. It's discipline and repetition. Just get a routine going. There are seven prayers in the Rosary. Pick three and memorise them and start saying them regularly. Just do it. The shift comes when God decides, not you.
Me too. I am sorry. Tormenting
Praying for both Fr Mike and Bishop Barron, I pray Bishop Barron turn away from modernism and the new church and return to the Catholic faith.

Thank you for this! 💗🌟🕊️
Tu I'm trying to learn my way❤
Very interesting 👌 thanks 🙏
Very Good! ❤❤❤
When I am « saying prayers », I feel more like I am « talking about » God. The indicator: following up with a checkmark on a to-do list. When I am praying, strangely, praying seems more like listening. The indicator: an unsatisfied hunger for more of God whether He feels absent or present from what I am going through.

Ahhhh, the poetic art of letter writing. 'Tis like a prayer. Be like David, make everything a prayer. ❤✝️ DV
Sadly Msgr. Sokolowski passed away just last year. His memory still towers at Catholic U and lives on through the mighty metaphysician Dr. Gregory Doolan!
The key is confession. That's all. Very easy thing.
Amen😇🙏❤
Different kinds of prayer for different times and purposes. Sometimes just saying prayers at the time you're supposed to say them is doing the work of putting your mind on God and Godly things on a regular basis.
Has anyone else read “Jesus’ Biological Father was Joseph: According to the New Testament” (DS WAGGONER)? This cites the birth narratives from the King James Version, then points out how Rome added words and even events, and in some cases, superimposed over certain words, to arrive at a Virgin Birth story. If you haven’t read it, it’s mind-bending!
❤❤❤
Am I able to have a holy hour as a lay person? I was of the understanding that holy hours were meant to be done in the presence of the Eucharist, of course it is still good to improve my prayer life, but will it have the same impact without the presence of Christ?
You can do it at home
🙏🙏🙏
Amen, I almost died 3x.
🙏❤🙏
I was hoping to hear what you two had to say specifically regarding the thumbnail text; "Saying prayers verses actually praying" but there are plenty of other videos on that. For me the difference is where my heart, mind, focus and attention is aimed...talking to the air or talking to Our Lord.
