Another amazing review video Matt! I've been making timelapses for about a year, the ramping sounds quite interesting. Thanks for sharing, this was very helpful and informative.
Seems like a worthy upgrade over the 2.5, and even though I didn’t have it, the ramping was what still intrigues me, the 0.1” interval change is cool, but not crucial for me, 0.5 - 1 - 2s is good for me, I don’t know, maybe if I’ll have some spare money to burn I’ll finally give it a go 🤷🏼♂️ but it was a good review 👍🏻
I own the 2.5 version, the only thing I thought to improve was the knob. The new one looks way better! Also usb-c would be great for maybe the next version? Definitely the best remote on the market.
I own the Pro Timer 3 I love it for the awesome simplicity size and versatility. I like the interval options as far as the ability to shoot less than 1 second and in ten second increments. I also own the Timelapse + View which adds to my options. Both work great with my Dynamic Perception motion slide and the Sapphire plus. I also own the discontinued Promote Control which also allows intervals below 1 second in tenth of a second increments down to .1 if your card and camera buffer permits. I love the manual programable bulb ramping time lapse features and focus stacking features. This device was ingenious for its time and still has nice features for today. All around the Pro Timer 3 is a great device and I was not disappointed and very pleased to add this to my arsenal of camera triggers.
I'm currently using in internal timer options on my Sony cameras for everything except night work as the exposure ramping and timelapse options are very good. I use an inexpensive timer for astro simply to trigger the camera in conditions where it's so dark the camera will struggle for a correct exposure, or when I need very long exposure shots on the tracker. The LRT device looks like a good product (and would use the same cable as my SYRP gear) but the only thing I would be getting it for would be the

Great info! I use the Timelapse+ View. I bought a LRT 2.5 but couldn’t get it to work with the Sony a7r4, it only worked with older Sony cameras. The Timelapse+ works perfectly with the newer Sony cams.
Oh that's very interesting thanks for sharing, what didn't work with the Sony? It should work with the right cable, no? Did you talk to Gunther about it?
@@MatthewVandeputte The LRT webpage has an Amazon link for Sony cameras, and I bought the cable it recommended, but this cable didn't work - it didn't even fit any of the jacks on my camera. I bought a couple other Sony specific cables with the correct ports and none of them worked either. I asked on the LRT forum and others hadn't found a solution - it seems there are several of the latest models of Sony that have trouble here. The Timelapse+ site sold me the cable that worked, and as well had a video showing all the settings I needed to change on the a7r4 to make it work, so I ended up going with that. Maybe I should have asked Gunther directly, but I didn't.

I use the 2.5 remote and love it, my only issue is the battery. When charging the indicator shows full all the time, when you remove the charging cable the indicated amount doesn't seem very reliable and I've had it switch off a couple of times. I now tend to leave it plugged into a PD source when using it, that's not really a problem cos I usually have the dew heater on the same PD anyway. I'd be keen to know if the PT3 is better in this regard.
Great review! I don't think I'll be getting it because as a sony shooter I'd rather preserve my micro USB port for portable chargers rather than an intervelometer. The sonys shoot great in aperture priority mode for holy grail tls anyways imo.
Great review 👍🏼... Toy I would love... Been trying various time lapse on Nikon d5300 and d7000... Trying to find a working remote for an old Lumix G1... But after far to many failed holy grails I just succeeded with a GoPro 7 in raw using Lrtimelapse. Love your work and enjoyed the beer 🍻 stream... Take care dude 👍
I believe you might just need a TRRS cable for the G1, which is what the S1 uses too. Not sure though but did a quick google and it seemed like the same connector

thanks for the review Matt, I use my Nikon intervalometer and also a Syrp genie mini, if I want some panning in the timelapse.
I’m using the Timelapse+ View and Mini’s for day to night and reverse. Full of bugs/issues, have you ever had View? I’m thinking of switching or buying this one
Would love to see some examples of how it performs when paired with a full motion timelapse rig. So far I haven't been able to find a single video. Or maybe it's only meant for static shooting.
It would likely trigger the moco in slave mode, where the moco setup waits for the signal of the remote to trigger shoot/move/shoot etc. Used to have that with my old Kessler rig
So this does away with the intervalometer? I just got my warming sleeve.. hope to get some cloudless nights soon... I find astrophotography to be prefect for my addiction recovery tactics... idle hands
Thanks for this great review! One question: can it compensate for increasing shutterspeeds? This is a problem I had before when shooting a timelapse including a sunrise / sunset. If you have strong varying light conditions and you need to change shutterspeeds DURING the timelapse, ideally the interval should compensate for this. For example, you start with a shutterspeed of 1s + interval 29s but you end with a shutterspeed of 10s + interval 20s. So the interval get's shorter while the shutterspeed get's longer.
Generally you'd just change the shutter speed then ramp the speed of the clip in Premier or whatever software you're using to make your composition. Ramping clip speed in post has the same effect as shortening the interval (but does not compensate for wanting your shutter speed to be the same proportion of your interval). I think you would need a laptop connected to your camera to achieve this.
Is there any alternatives to this one for 0.5 sec interval? I've had this for a year and it's been working fine so far, until on my last trip. I turned it off after use, and cannot turn it on anymore. The battery was about 50% on last time I see. A friend of mine had the previous option and warned me to keep this unit charged, as he has depleted its battery once and then cannot charge/turn on anymore.
I haven't used the RamperPro in years, I suggest using QDSLRDashboard instead. It is quite outdated now with a very complicated setup and post-process. I still use the LRTimelapse Pro timer but it has different features ofcourse

I wonder if its going to be a good investment if you already own Lumix S1 which does most of what the remote does pretty much perfectly, especially holly grail timelapse, what is your opinion?
Very good point, I would use this to add extra images to the sequence or to ramp the interval for example. Delayed starts are limited to the next day or so, and repeating sequences isn't possible with the Lumix and so much more. They are very, very good at timelapse, but this remote makes it even better
@@MatthewVandeputte would the auto focus actually work? I wouldn't use it for a time lapse but sometimes I like to use an intervolometer for candid shots of people

@@MatthewVandeputte Yes, was going to comment after watching. The D850 and Z series have .05 second available via the built-in intervalometer. I haven't shot a lot of fast moving subjects but I did some brief testing just to try to prepare when needed. On the Z7 was able to do 1/5 shutter without losing frames. Never completed testing with the D850 but lost frames even at 1/30. Don't now if it's the memory card speed or the difference in processor. Thanks for the review! If I get back on IG I'll follow :)
Nkons internal intervalometers got better the last years, but still the block the camera for way too long if you want to do advanced stuff. For holy grail shooting with long exposures, you will just not see what you are doing on the screen, it doesn't work for that - only for simple timelapse. And that they offer 0.5 secs intervals is nice, but again - doesn't help if you need to see what you are capturing - the dark time is way too long.
Good question, on a Canon you might have to enable 2 second delay timer and enable bracketing as well so that it works, then you have to add the time for the bracketing and the 2 seconds to your interval as well
Yes (although I don't recommend Bracketing for timelapse, it has much more disadvantages then it helps) - so if you really want to do it, use the TL Astro Mode on the timer, set the "Exposure Time" to the time that you need to press the shutter for a full Bracket cycle (usually 3 images) and the interval of course a bit longer than the 3 exposures alltogether.
Any motion controller that offers a so called "Slave Mode" can be triggered by the LRT PRO Timer (2.5 and 3). But as far as I know, Syrp is quite a closed shop - they don't really allow for any interfacing unfortunately. But with other "more open" devices like Emotimo, Black Forest Motion, Dynamic Perception the go perfectly together with the LRT PRO Timer!
