This is what cars are for. Cars in museums are dying. I went back to a car museum I went to as a child (50 or 60 years later) and all the exhibits were dead and covered in dust. So disappointing. Thank you for bringing the beast back to life.
WHy oh why in all depths of hell would you play music over this engine sound ?!?!?
28.5 liters, equivalent to approximately 1,730 cubic inches displacement. One cylinder displacement (~ 430 cubic inches) is more than a 427 cubic inch Chevrolet big block V-8! Astonishing.
I'd rather watch this than all the F-1 and NASCAR in the world!
JT
F-1 cars are too complex and only the realm of billionaires. The modern developments in safety and driver protection are most welcome but the idea that just one engine costs over a million dollars is kind of amazing. It seems like motor sports have all got the potential to be taken to extremes. Take Top Fuel or Funny Car drag racing. The engines only last one run or less. If you watch a full set of eliminations you might see maybe half or less of the races as real races as opposed to blown engines, etc. Indy Car and NASCAR have pretty even cars, not sure that works out well either. I would not for a second have an idea what would improve the present situation but I think reduced costs and simplicity would be my ideas.
?
There are other motorsports you know, for example; Formula 2 Formula 3 Formula 4 and so on.
And extremely cheap ones too! like go-karting and in some countries People-racin which is a much cheaper version of rallycross. I do agree with you though, I'd love to see a race with these cars!
The start grid looks like wacky races and it is brilliant!
i applaud Duncan for having the fortitude to keep this amazing machine in working order... this car deserves to be driven instead of rot away in some museum!
A brilliant video of the 'Beast of Turin' spoiled by whatever fool thought that adding music would somehow make it even better.
This is an incredible machine. I have seen it up close, in action and it is even more impressive than you think it is going to be. But despite this the most amazing and brilliant thing about the Beast of Turin is Duncan. The man has so much passion and enthusiasm even a quick 30 second chat with him can lift your spirits for the rest of the day.
I have never seen such a beautiful machine. Hope to see it in person some day.
"A blithering idiot you are! Fantastic! You're mad!" I can't imagine what these machines must have looked like in era or how brave the men who drove them in anger were.
"Godspeed Duncan Pittaway." You are a brave man to race this car. The automotive universe is richer for it.
Gotta love this guy: "It's really just a matter of making sure the tyres stay on and the car doesn't fall over." Well done sir!
It's not often these days I feel proud to be British but this did it for me. Well done chap!
so good to see wish more people were like this guy
Love to see that this is not in a museum rotting. Cars are meant to be used and this is exactly what the owner is doing, appreciating the art of driving a masterpiece
28 liters of engine displacement with only 4 cylinders.
No wonder the thing sounds like it's about to break out of a cage. Unreal.
It is effin seven litre on each cyl can u imagine?
The red Baron of cars if there ever was one.
keeping beautiful engineering history alive. such an important thing. love it!!!
I loved seeing this coming down the straight, it's much louder than all the other cars in the race.
What a splendid piece of filming. But who on earth wants to listen to music when the sound of these old giants is what we really want to hear.
What he said about seeing the car moving instead of in a museum is so true! Great car and video
I've watched this car and owner for years. It has made it to the top of my list of favorite cars. I saw it in person in London a few years back, and I was able to touch it and see every detail. Right on! That the owner keeps it alive and in the public view.
4:54 I think the engine starting nearly gave that woman in the background a heart attack!
What a machine!Duncan is such a nice bloke.Definitely lifts the spirits with his enthusiasm and humour.Great😎❤👍!
Why is there music playing when it drives by instead of the sound of the engine?
Why idiotic music over engine sounds even if it was a lawn mower
Who on earth could give this video a thumb down? Duncan is a genuine gentleman, and a great sport for driving the car at Goodwood!
Probably someone who thinks it should be deteriorating in a museum instead of being driven.
@@Simcard__ or someone who would rather hear the engine and not the horrible music
A Benz guy
"It always delights me how easy it is to start".
Wonderful film!
what an amazing piece of kit that car is.most impressive chunk of brute force.
Oh the look of that thing coming down the straightaway. Beautiful and menacing. Someday I will go.
I love that beast of a car. OMG 7 liters per cylinder. The engineers at the time opted not to weigh it down with a heavy exhaust lol.
loved watching that race in the live stream, really interesting seeing these cars getting used hard :)
I'd love to have a signed tee shirt with some beautiful art work of this car.
What a car! Great to see this, I've been fascinated by this car since i saw a photo of it when i was a kid. Duncan deserves a medal for bringing it back to life.
Awesome film, i think this is an exciting time for you and the car, excellent to see it being raced :D
Just loved watching that. Totally insane. Hats off to Duncan ... what a man, and what a car!
Saturday night, you guys and that beast made me smile,. still thinking of the tragedy in London. thoughts are with you all.
It is so good that these guys' share the madness with every one!
What a fabulous car and the owner seems a true gent! I feel like Duncan could talk about anything and I'd be rivited to what he says
Love the video. Duncan is enthusiastic and the car is awesome!
I’ve watched several videos of this incredible machine and my mind can still not comprehend 28 litres into 4 cylinders!
What a monster of a machine! Amazing seeing such a piece of history actually driven.
Just a beautiful work of art. And sounds amazing.
wow, that guy is just that much cooler than I am. Duncan, you sir ARE the beast of Turin. Way to go! Drove it there, raced it there..
I didn't know a thing about goodwood just a few years ago, can you imagine how awesome this is for me? I've never in my life been able to see any of the vintage vehicles driven anywhere near their potential, everything was polished and as stationary as possible where I grew up.
These guys are so brave. A wreck in any of these guys would be catastrophic.
To think this was the fastest machine on the planet back in 1911, twice as fast than any plane, train, boat, etc that existed back then. Phenomenal.
The Titanic set sail and sunk one year AFTER this car came to be, the Titanic is actually younger than the S76!
Awesome ,the beast of torino remains the beast even after a century, what a car!
Love the 'free to air' exhaust on the Beast from Turin. It is the voice of a big engine with lots of grunt.
Barking mad, love it.
If i become a super villain this will be my daily driver. I want to thank you guys for doing this its not often you see somone cool enough to actually run these sorts of toys as intended youre an inspiration.
What an amazing man not only has he restored and driven the Beast of Turin but he also wrestles Harry Gorilla’s.
Fantastic to see these old cars
Nice guy and an astounding car .
Its great to see that in the video it seems that in the paddock it's parked next to the Benz 200 "Blitzen Benz". The Benz is the land speed record holder that Fiat wanted to beat, so they built the s76
I realy like your videos, but why do you think you need to add music to it? The music should come from the engines ;)
Beautifully constructed video.
Great man, wonderful car!
I take no credit for the joke, but I can't remember which old RUclips video it was, but a long time ago in a galaxy far far away some erudite chap said this car had an External Combustion Engine! He absolutely nailed it, It's the first thing I think of when I see those flames bursting from this grumpy though beautiful monster. 🏆
An absolutely magnificent automobile! I have a modern Fiat and I think that if that car every pulled up next to my car and blew flames out of the exhaust ports, my car would probably let out a scream and climb a tree and hide. I think that Fiat is a good car still but it is amazing to me to watch a 100 plus year old car still being driven. A car built in a time when you lived by the seat of your pants and your ingenuity.
4:45 Woman in the background "OMG" lol Love this car!
Awesome Machines & Great Owners...
Its insane....i want one.
It's the belching flames that does it for me!
Who wants to see this monster on the dyno for a run?
I don’t know about the HP numbers but the toque numbers would be astronomical.
300hp, 1500nm of torque probably
Fantastic car, shame the music drowned out the rest of the audio!
Wonderful video! Excellent choice for nostalgic background music. Loved the camaraderie at the end of video. Hope to see the Beast of Turin live and meet its owner in the near future. All the best to the folks at Goodwood!
That awful music killed the whole video for me to be honest...
lovely video.
Mad man I love that car
The helmet reminded senna .. great video
What an amazing car and a throughly nice chap who's blessed with very large brass ba*ls.
A 4 cylinder engine with the same displacement as a Rolls Royce Merlin! The throws on the crank must be as long as my leg!
If I want to hear music, I can listen to Spotify. I came hear to see (and hear) cars !
Bring the FIAT 76, to Bonneville! Try how much fast can go this Beast
!
132.27 mph
Oh, your Honda pops and bangs and has a built engine? That's cute my car is 28 liters and shoots giant flames more often than not.
👍👌👏 Simply fantastic!
I could imagine that if you lost brakes you could simply kill ignition that huge engine would slow it down quick.
Jake break from hell.
thats one crazy car!
All that class and style and he gets in with a bee helmet lol
Complimenti oggi come ieri a correre e gareggiare con auto del genere... AUDACI....!!!!
Legend has it set fire to King's Landing.
I like that he treats it like a normal car and has fun driving it. Cars in a museum just aren't very inspiring.
And let's not forget, that car was made for straight line speed. Racing it on a fairly tight course is amazingly gutsy.
Glad there's non of the other comments spamming "EXTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE!"
You know you're good when the auto subtitles on YT sub the sound of the engine with [MUSIC] around 08:40.
Awesome machine. Great to see these driven and raced! However, I think if you something go "boing" as you hit the brakes, the appropriate response would be "Oh Shit!" Lol
Awesome 👏🏽🍾🥂🤩
Clearly the person who dubbed the sound for this video wished they had worked on the Harry Potter films...
nice work on the road also
His helmet gives him and the car the phrase, "sting like a bee"
You’ll notice that it has two seats, one is for the driver, the other one is for the original Fix It Again Tony.
That's 1,730 cubic inches developing about 290 horse power according to outside sources. Wonder how it would sound with a custom designed and tuned exhaust from Vance and Hines.
probably something akin to a 20mm AA cannon I'm sure.
those chain drives are quite scary! If that chain on the right side ever snaps it may very well make minced meat of the drivers right arm and shoulder.
It happened in a land top speed attempt. The driver was leaning on the right, because of habit, and when the chain drive broke, it tore off the fairing, and beheaded the driver. The team buried the driver in the car at the beach where the attempt was taking place.
Duncan, "Terrifying"; but admit it, you had FUN, didn't you.
wonderfull.....
100 psi in the tyres OMG !!!!
If/when I accumulate wealth great enough, I’d love to commission Pur Sang to build me one of these
a barrel with wheels and a huge engine.. off we go.
Music is totally unnecessary. It kinda ruins the video. You can play music any time but you can't always hear one of these magnificent cars run.
Imagine the torque.
Imagine the milage.
25 people love their Daewoo Matiz.
Love how driving those beasts are the same as cuddling me wife.
