One amazing sounding banjo! Thank you for allowing me to test drive it. I greatly appreciate it! Thank you for all you've done. An absolute blessing. Thank you John.
Ok, some two years after installation, I have to say that this tone ring is rather amazing. After watching John's vid here and then chatting with him, I went ahead in summer 2020 and got the Sloan tone ring on my '92 Gibson RB-3. Why? The Kulesh ring was pretty good but lacked the big sound I was wanting, and as a result I was looking to buying another banjo. So, the new ring saved me a minimum of $5000 on a new banjo that may or may not have been as good as the one I have with the Sloan. The bass is much richer and the 21st and up frets have a nice long sustain that were virtually dead with the Kulesh ring. Like John said, it ain't cheap but for me, it was way more than worth it! Happy camper here. A big thanks to John for presenting this!!
That thing is sounding great John! Having heard it before in person and thinking it sounded great before the ring change, this is a nice comparison to hear the difference!
Even with just the iPad microphone the banjo sounds amazing beautiful banjo just found out about you through another third party will be in contact with you about banjos purchasing repair have a wonderful day talented musician can't wait to hear you play with your group
@@JohnBoulding will be in the market for Wildwood frailing banjo, Author Smith or anything comparable. Nice Rb 250 or 800 at good price. Will be traveling for the next week but will be in contact. Would like to hear u play with the group. !!

You can use this ring in anything an it will sound great, as long as you have a good rim. It's price is on par with all the other well know ring makers out there, so it's not a cheap upgrade. Those B17s are nice banjos but by the time you upgrade the rim and this ring, plus labor, you'll be at the cost of the banjo. Of course if you really love that banjo, you sure can use the ring, but a better rim would be in order. I hope all is well down under with this Covid pandemic!
Alan, as long as the rim is standard thickness and height, the rim can be turned to have this ring installed. That model Gt should have the full sized rim so yes the Sloan can work in there. The rings aren't cheap, costing 700 dollars but it's is the best out there in my experience.
@@michiganwoodsman8760 yes but the outrer rim ledge where the skirt sits will need to be removed a few thousandths. If you don't do this the top portion of the ring will not seat properly.
The ring in this video was 820, but I traded it in just a couple months ago for the newest 222. Every ring Jerry has made is great and get a bit better each pour. You can't go wrong with any of them. The 222 is in my old KK-10 now and it's awesome
@@JohnBoulding thanks for the info. The 222 is what I have also and it made my RB3 Wreath, a hoss… Thinking on ordering more and doing all of my banjos
John Beyl , the Sloan isn't a conversion ring so it's not a drop in fit without major modification. I would recommend a rim change out in those instances so you preserve the original rim.
John, I have a Deering Maple Blossom, circa 1980. My original instructor passed away, and I purchased it for his wife. Wanted to have something to remember him by.. Do you think it would work well with it?
I have yet to see any quality banjo that this rings didn't transform into something much better, as long as the rest of the banjos components are up to sniff, as they say, quality wise. Your maple blossom should have a good 3 play rim and deering flathead ring in it stock, unless it's been swapped out. This ring can be installed after the rim is modified for it.
@@JohnBoulding Oh boy, that sounds like a lot of work and a big project. I guess I'll just tear G it down and put it back together to see if it makes it ring a bit better. Thanks for the information John. Yours sounds really great by the way..

7 minutes of salesmanship. Almost gave up before he started playing. Maybe 2 1/2 minutes of actual playing. The banjo does sound real good up the neck with his right hand close to the neck (away from the bridge). And capoed to B-flat. Only way to really know, is to hear and play it in person.
