Ya, I just install the new Ubuntu 24.04 LTS; I think there is a small CORE version of Ubuntu that you could probably put on this; seems sort of interesting.
In my experience a 6 core ARM CPU will do well on DC and PSP games but falls just short for PS2 and GC. There are plenty of 8 core ARM cpus that still choke on that gen, you need like a modern Snapdragon or equivalent. If this one will do PS2, it would be very special in its class...
This thing is almost perfect.. if they swapped a mipi with a PCIe ribbon similar to the pi5.. +8gb of ram.. that would have sealed the deal for me. If they had a pcie version that could connect to a nvme SSD.. it would have been a bit more attractive.
I just bought a pi zero 2 w if only i had know about this sooner anyway awesome video love your content like to see more on this board again thanks for covering this
Raspi is 15 dollars while the radxa is more expensive. Also different use cases because raspi has good io support from python and lots of documentation. If you only care about computing power then the radxa beats the pi
I did several box86 abd box64 testing on this board , it was radxa zero 2 before, but is the same board. I have a ubuntu build for it too on my channel
Nice video, one remark if I may. In the specs you mention that the are 2 A55 cores, however the technical specs on the Radxa site show they are A53 cores in the Zero 2 Pro.
True, and if you need the extra power, its an option. But it's also quite a lot more expensive than the Pi Zero 2, and at least with the Pi, you know there will be excellent, long-term OS support. Horses for courses.
Looking forward to hearing about how this fits into the uConsole. I really want to get one but the CM4 is just too limited, so waiting on either a CM5 or some other SBCs to fit into one before buying.
Would love to see a emulation test on Batocera with the harder stuff to emulate from N64, Dreamcast, Saturn, Dolphin even at native res. Was kind of hoping that's what I was going to see :D Great video as usual.
Its for the stupid AI crap everyone is shoehorning into their marketing these days, literally nothing to use it for yet, but you have to constantly talk about AI shit now as a company or your stock will tank.
I agree AI is absolutely mostly a marketing term, at this point. However there are a few uses for it. If your project involves video analysis, such as finding people or faces, then the NPU is a better choice. Not saying most of us need it, just that it does have some legitimate use cases.
Thanks ETA I ordered my Uconsole in the middle of February 2024 and am still waiting…🙏! I am interested when you get the Radaxxa board going..hope Raspberry Pi releases a compatible CMV soon or a RK3588 board the will work with the Uconsole…😊! Have a great day!
ETA PRIME, I have another suggestion for you! I recently learned that Xiaomi's HyperOS phones support a PC mode similar to Samsung DeX and Moto Ready For. This could potentially be a competitor in the mobile desktop experience space. It would be really interesting if you could test out some of Xiaomi's HyperOS devices and evaluate their PC mode performance. How does the desktop experience compare to DeX and Ready For? What are the capabilities and limitations? Your analysis would provide valuable insights for anyone considering these Xiaomi phones as an alternative desktop solution. Your channel is stellar at thoroughly testing these mobile desktop environments. Covering HyperOS would expand the variety of options examined. I'm sure your fans, myself included, would appreciate getting your expert take on Xiaomi's offering. Keep up the awesome work!
I bought a bananapi Cm4 pin compatable with rpi cm4, with the a311d. its so far from a plug and play situation for the uconsole, sadly. working on patching the kernel but best of luck with this SBC. I agree the uconsole needs a little more horsepower.
Hey ETA PRIME! I'm a big fan of your content. I have a request - could you please consider adding the game GRID Autosport to your Moto Ready game tests in the future? It's a fantastic racing game, and I'm really curious to see how it performs on different gamepads. It would be great to get your analysis on the gamepad experience for this title. Thanks for all the awesome work you do!
I'm pretty sure this would be significantly slower than the upcoming CM5, which I think is supposed to be largely pin-compatible with CM4 boards -- so theoretically the CM5 could be a drop-in replacement on your (and my) uConsole.
I would like to see manjaro running steam games on PC. I have a PC but hate windows but don't have a clue on how to play all my steam games on linux manjaro.
aida6 reports it as a 4 core a76 + 4 core a55 not a 4 core a76 + 2 cores a55 as noted in your listed specifications near the beginning of the video. Big difference. 4 a55 cores vs 2.
You know we don't really care about running Linux desktops on this thing, but it would be really cool to see something like Batocera or Recalbox running on it
That Thing is 64.99 for that. You can get a Radxa X2L - An SBC with Intel X86 combined with RPi 2040 For 48.99. Save you some money and get a better system.
I cannot find what video controller chip is in the Radxa Zero 2 Pro. The chip in the uConsole is the Jadard JD9365DA-h3 which has a max 800x1280 WXGA TFT output. I have found a couple of 8" and 9" screens that will work with that output for the uConsole, but no touch. The Zero 2 Pro does have a matching 8" and 10" screen with touch and accelerometer (Radxa 8HD AD 002, Radxa 10HD AD 001). My goal is to replace my older 8" tablets with something more open and supported in Linux. This seems to be the best option yet. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this and whether you can successfully integrate this module with the uConsole.
I have a Radxa and its problem is software support. It's not as easy as a Raspberry Pi and even an Orange Pi. For example, Wi-Fi I had to research a lot because it wasn't working and there were a lot of people on the internet with the same problem.
Try open morrowind and possibly some x86 games with winlator on there if it works or not. Not sure I beleive the mali gpu is supported don't know about the cpu though
Funny, I'm looking into a board to replace the Raspberry Pi 3B+ in my Raspad! Same objective!! :) Do you think this would work? I beleive that you do have one too, if I recall correctly...
The Radxa 5C 4GB is $60, while the Radxa Zero 2 Pro 4GB whiout the emmc is $55 I dont think this is a good deal. 5C is even less if you are whilling to risk the "lottery" version, aka the "little" version.
It’s such a crying shame that none of these little copycat boards have much accessory hardware support. That and RPi hasn’t released a new Zero series board. I keep trying to make handheld cyber decks but none of the touchscreens want to work with anything but the 500 MB RPi Zero
The official website shows a version with 8GB of ram .. do you think the performance of the 8GB model will improve the overall performance exponentially?
Def a very interesting package (that's what she said 😆) But is the company name "Ra-dax-a" or "Rad-xa" (x in the latter case being a "z" sound (I would think it's the latter b/c it's a Chinese company n whatnot) I really don't know which it is. But I tend to go w/ the 2nd (tho I have no clue which it is)
Hello brother, I have a question. I have an old camera and I would like to convert it to a Digi camera. I would like to use an android single-board computer and use a 4k sensor csi module. The question is, is it possible if i install from google play store a theard party a camera app like FiLMiC Pro to control a camera module?

I want to see a diy smartphone with these sbcs in a realively good form factor...
That's extremely impressive for the size. That thing is gonna be handy for IoT of all sorts, or just retrogaming.
That's impressive N64 performance for a "zero"-size board. I'd be interested to see how it handles Ubuntu and if can do any PS2 emulation.

One of the official shops has a greyed out 8GB option, I assume that means it will be coming soon.
It's almost perfect... apart from all the major things you listed.😂
$91 is a bit pricey. Makes it more expensive than Pi 5. I do like the small form factor though.
It's $65 but after shipping and additional on board storage you could be spending more.
@@nate6045 The two links have two different prices.
For the performance you get I’d say it’s reasonable.

Yeah, got a 2nd hand pc for less than half the price. Yeah i know the size is bigger but for my use its irrelevant
I'd love to throw this in a handheld kit that would usually only take a pi zero. That added performance would be amazing in a GB Advance shell.
cool little board, I might have to try one. thanks for the video

Radxa should stop making so many different boards so they can compete in price. They cut many corners and its still too expensive for the performance.
Can you install debian or armbian maybe?
