Congratulations on the pregnancy, I once took it off by myself but it was just really awkward as my head was mashed sideways and was trying to lift the hardtop like I was Atlas. It also felt like the heaviest thing ever, despite only being 20kg. 20kg is just the bar when squatting at the gym it's nothing but with the hardtop it felt like trying to walk with 80kg on the bar lol.
Seeing your MX-5 really makes me want to colour match my hardtop since I also have a montego blue with gold wheels. Currently just plasti-dipped black since red x montego blue looks funny.
I've Had my Miata since new 1995 I bought the inexpensive Miata Hoist threw a chain over a beam in my barn and hooked the hoist to that. The hoist has cloth straps after unlocking all corners of hardtop release clamps slip straps carefully around the corners without moving the top. I then hoist the top up above car about a foot clearance of front windshield the back of the hardtop will hang lower than the front but that's ok. I then get in the car and drive out from under the top which is left suspended. When I come home I back in under hardtop first making sure the back window clears the front windshield when your backing in. I then get out of the car and lower the top once it's sitting on the car I slide the straps out from under corners carefully before locking it down. I'm a lady and it's not that hard to do. I never put hardtop laying on the ground I could not do that by myself plus its a backbreaker. I always set it on the back Frankenstein brackets on a piece of cardboard then leaning it against a wall. If you take (2- 4x4 ) four-inch by four-foot boards using 5-inch pieces of wood nailing them between the boards at the ends like spacers you can sit your top on that. Place the boards on non-slip rubber shelf liner so they don't slide away from the wall. Use dollar carpet samples or a blanket on top of the lumber or anything soft were brackets touch down then just lean it against the wall use a moving blanket to cover the top so as not to get scratched. So easy.
Hi there, thanks for watching, and thanks for the question. I would have thought that would be more awkward, particularly when it comes to putting it down/picking it up, plus I've never seen anyone do it like that.
that rollbar makes the latching of the hardtop way easier than my rollbar. I have to get the side latches from beatrush that are offset to make clearance for the pole of the rollbar. I want the ease of latching it on and off and not to have it bolted on. Lovely video tho i've had my laugh!
You can as long as you pick it up in the correct position and you have strong arms! Used to lift mine of reguarly, its worse putting it back on as trying not to scratch the paint whilst alligning it back up. I used to put a blanket over the boot and pull it out when the roof was more or less in position over the frankienstien bolts. Now I have a PRHT mk3 so its no longer an issue hehe!
Hey, I like the blanket idea to avoid scratching paint. I'll be using it from now on (even when I have a helper). Thankx for the heads up. What's a PRHT?
@@rosendocasarez5316 Hi the PRHT is the power retractable roof on the mk3/nc mx5’s. If you use a blanket make sure it’s double folded or quite thick 👍.
I'm 6.2 aswell but like chicken little and liftet it on my back from the inside. I walked like a turtle with a hardtop on my back....and at the same speed like a turtle🤦♂️ will never do it again by myself. 2ppl or a hoist is a must 4 me. 😄
Sadly I don't have the same physique as him, if I did, removing the hardtop would be a lot easier! Maybe I could create my own workout - hardtop squats 😂Thanks for watching.,
I took mine off by myself last weekend and carried it a good amount of yards inside my house, I'm glad nobody recorded that on video :D
😂

I wouldn't say it feels THAT heavy, but the odd shape makes it very cumbersome to handle... Thanks for watching mate.
Scratched my paint taking my off...use a hoist and covered the trunk with a blanket putting it on..no scratches.

What's stopping a person from removing it from the inside, resting it on one's back like a mazda turtle, instead of the long reach over it?

good, quick vid. thanks!

Ah, good tip Lewis, thanks for watching!

Good to know I’m not the only one that is way less fit than he may appear 😂
🤣
Fair play mate. Will be removing it by myself from now on 🤣👍🏼
Cheers Rhys! Thanks for watching.
What a nightmare! 😂😂😂
No easy! Well done for doing it yourself
It's a bit of a faff, but I'm sure it will get easier with practice! I could really do with a hardtop bag, though - thanks for watching.

😂
Nice roll bar.👍
Thanks Mike, it's a T R Lane one. Thank you for watching.
Yeah, I noticed that too.
You’re hilarious 😂😂😂
I do it all the time,
and I have the back to prove it... 😬
😅
lol I thought I had a jeff nippard video on because you both use the same music

Wind the windows down knobs.
Knobs? Is there really any need for that Merlyn? Also, you'll see I made that point at 5:43, so I've already addressed that. Thanks for watching.
Mine's not too bad to lift off but then it's got a plastic rear window
The best solution being a carbon fibre roof (11kg) or the cheaper a DIY hoist in your garage from the wooden beams 👍
I think a carbon fibre hardtop would be a bit overkill for an old MX-5 - it will probably be worth more than the car 😂. Thanks for watching.
Car Obsession as always depends on the budget 🤣 but yeah get some heavy duty string or plastic coated steel wire cables and your Mrs’ will thank you
This guys funny
👍 Thanks for watching.
Man, those long arms made it a lot easier.😄
Yes, it does make a difference! Thanks for watching.
Needs to cut back on the smoking !!
I wish I could blame cigarettes, but I don't smoke!
20kg pfff easy
The weight isn't so much the issue, it's the awkward shape of it. Thanks for watching.
