Then from there it's a long and glorious journey down the rabbit hole that is Tool. All I ask of you guys is to LISTEN to the song as you react to them. Just listen and let the music take you on the journey. As you can see my username is based off of their most recent album release. This album was released 13 years after 10,000 days, the previous album, so the build up to it was insane for any TOOL fan. Also as some people have mentioned Pneuma the Danny Carey drum video is a great song to start with as well. They are not in the rock genre of music, TOOL are their own amazing genre of music. There is no other band like them. No other band sounds like them. No other band composes their music like them. They are not dark they are unique, very very unique. Their music has many layers to it, their music is like chess when every other band is playing checkers.

It’s not about devil worshipping just the downward spiral that one gets drawn into. More Tool songs would be great along with other rock artists. You should listen to the group Disturbed’s song “Stricken”, I’m sure you guys will not be disappointed.

To me it doesn't have anything to do with chemical drugs but rather a bad relationship and staying drunk of false emotions instead of sobering up and facing the reality of the situation. But that's the great thing about Tool. It means something different to everyone.
I know you guys did this song along time ago, but what this song is about is a friend of the band who used to work for them had an alcohol problem. I believe he ended up dying from it. That is why this song is called sober and it’s not an anti-religious song necessarily, although that can be debated. what he is talking about is how we all grow and mature as we get older and everybody wishes at one point or another that they could have a second chance. if you just give me one more chance, I will be a good boy. I won’t do these things I won’t lie I won’t steal I won’t cheat. I understand Those are the lower veins of this world that we are born into, and I feel subject to those, however, I have learned my lesson please may I have another chance. This sounded like it might have been a live cut with the lyrics over it, there was an echo and different guitar things going on. 10:02 yeah these guys are each pretty insane with their instruments, weird time signatures all over the place, they get into African-feeling polyrhythms and even composed one song based on the fibonacci sequence. For some reason I thought you guys already did the Danny Carey Drum-camera version of Tool - Pneuma live, but if not, head straight to it. Dude is an absolute master, and the drums are the star of that one.
Tool were way ahead of their time when they first came out (I have their first album on cassette). I've seen them live a couple of times and they are AMAZING! The lead singer (Maynard) also owns a vineyard and bottles wine. He was also with the band "A Perfect Circle"
DAMN! sounds amazing. They came to Oslo and I slept through the first half hour of the ticket sale and so the ti kets sold out lol. Cried when they announced their coming here but at least I saved I lot of money missing that concert lol.

Tool never fucking gets old, glad you guys hit this up. The sober conversation cracked me up. This is a song about a dude destroying all the relationships in his life, most likely because of alcohol and drugs and shitty mentality.
It could be like this "Why can't, we not be sober" as in, you can be sober if you try and "Why can't we not be sober" as in don't really need to be sober, it can go both way I believe it's called language art, I could be wrong.
TOOL will be an amazing journey for you guys. Like others have said, you definitely need to do "The Pot" next. Probably the best TOOL introductory song to do. I think you guys will dig it. Also, avoid the official music videos because they're super weird and distracting.

I'm glad you guys finally reacted to tool, unfortunately the audio and song choice wasn't the best one to start with, but I'm glad you could already pick up how good the instruments are. If you do appreciate talent you wouldn't be disappointed with them. This was from their first full album and like many great artists their music got better, should check out songs from later releases. Also I found it funny how thinking some of the lyrics are about a woman/relationship, when he's singing about substance abuse to put it simply. I guess this is why some say women are like drugs lol.
This song saved my life. After going through alcohol treatment I hit a rough patch and fell back into the bottle . listening to this over ans over gave me the strength to climb back out of the bottle. Maynard is the TRUTH!!!
I love TOOL!! I feel bad you didnt seem to have the best experience with this sont, but let me recommended "The Pot". The sound alone to this song made me fall back in love with rock when I was living in NYC.
The song is about dealing with a band member that was addicted to drugs. The song was written from the predictive of the those around the addict dealing with the addiction and how the drug effects the addict. It goes back and forth.
Personally, I think The Pot would have been a much better one to start with if you've never heard Tool. As much as ya'll love the drums and guitar, it would've been so much more enjoyable for ya'll. You should really give it a go before you X Tool out. I promise you won't be disappointed.
Tool is it’s own greatest thing ever. “The Pot” is a great song that you will react to as well as “Forty Six & 2”. I’m never going to tell you what to do but you will. Please just know there is a dope ass drum solo in Forty Six & 2 and let the boys know this is a time where no words should be spoken. It might be the best rock song ever made. Just my opinion.

It's about the outcome drugs/alcohol had on a friend. A lot of Metal music deals with serious subjects. Releasing anger and frustration through the music instead of with external outbursts, or turning it back on oneself and internalizing it.
Sober is about addiction and is from 92'. Their material get deeper and more complex as you move through the years. Headphones are a must!! Pipe some good quality audio and welcome to the rabbit hole!! Start with the POT, Lateralus, Right in Two, and Invicible. Pneuma live is a must if you like drums.

Tool were defined by a dark sound that fused the heavy grooves of early Black Sabbath and the weird atmosphere and imagery of Pink Floyd. In 1996, Tool released their 2nd album 'Aenima' and it went to #2 on the US charts, eventually sold 3 million copies in the US... the singles and animated videos for 'Stinkfist' and 'Aenima' made it on MTV... the other radio singles were - 'H' ... defintely seemslike a live track. The band isn't mixed very clearly and prominently, which is such a defining part of their sound.
I think the poster modified the sound to get away from the RUclips bots for copyright infringement.

(examples - 3:41 in Let Down by Radiohead, 3:57 in Jambi by Tool, 0:40 in Keeph Hope Alive by The Crystal Method, 3:49 in The Riddle by Steve Vai, 2:29 in Aerials, the entire song Notion by Tash Sultana, 3:23 in Release by Pearl Jam😁, and every note SRV ever played.
Check out Tools drummer, Danny Carey "PNEUMA" (live in concert). The video is only of the drummer and it's possibly one of the best drum performance ever. I'd also recommend checking out "SOBER" LIVE (pro shot), one of the best vocal performances in history.

Maynard said the song is based on a friend who can’t write music without being loaded so it’s a synopsis of what happens to so many artist who think they need an altered state to write mind bending songs…I believe it refers to either Layne Staley of Alice In Chains or Kurt Cobain of Nirvana…

Tool never fucking gets old, glad you guys hit this up. The sober conversation cracked me up. This is a song about a dude destroying all the relationships in his life, most likely because of alcohol and drugs and shitty mentality.
It could be like this "Why can't, we not be sober" as in, you can be sober if you try and "Why can't we not be sober" as in don't really need to be sober, it can go both way I believe it's called language art, I could be wrong.

I'm glad you guys finally reacted to tool, unfortunately the audio and song choice wasn't the best one to start with, but I'm glad you could already pick up how good the instruments are. If you do appreciate talent you wouldn't be disappointed with them. This was from their first full album and like many great artists their music got better, should check out songs from later releases.
Also I found it funny how thinking some of the lyrics are about a woman/relationship, when he's singing about substance abuse to put it simply. I guess this is why some say women are like drugs lol.
This song saved my life. After going through alcohol treatment I hit a rough patch and fell back into the bottle . listening to this over ans over gave me the strength to climb back out of the bottle. Maynard is the TRUTH!!!

The song is about dealing with a band member that was addicted to drugs. The song was written from the predictive of the those around the addict dealing with the addiction and how the drug effects the addict. It goes back and forth.
Personally, I think The Pot would have been a much better one to start with if you've never heard Tool. As much as ya'll love the drums and guitar, it would've been so much more enjoyable for ya'll. You should really give it a go before you X Tool out. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Tool is it’s own greatest thing ever. “The Pot” is a great song that you will react to as well as “Forty Six & 2”. I’m never going to tell you what to do but you will. Please just know there is a dope ass drum solo in Forty Six & 2 and let the boys know this is a time where no words should be spoken. It might be the best rock song ever made. Just my opinion.

Y'all, Tool and A Perfect Circle are amazing. Maynard's voice is collectively agreed to be one if the best in Rock music. Their lyrical content is always worth viewing.
It's about the outcome drugs/alcohol had on a friend. A lot of Metal music deals with serious subjects. Releasing anger and frustration through the music instead of with external outbursts, or turning it back on oneself and internalizing it.

Sober is about addiction and is from 92'. Their material get deeper and more complex as you move through the years. Headphones are a must!! Pipe some good quality audio and welcome to the rabbit hole!! Start with the POT, Lateralus, Right in Two, and Invicible. Pneuma live is a must if you like drums.

im in no way a die hard Tool head or anything and wont pretend ive heard all their songs but "Lateralus" is legendary... they used the Fibonacci sequence to create an audibly pleasing song.

Tool is a very interesting band to get into... formed in 1991 as a "joke" band in California, they were signed quickly and scored an MTV hit in 1993 w/ 'Sober' from their 1st full album 'Undertow' (Tool released an EP titled 'Opiate' in '92) ... u can barely see the band members in the animated video for 'Sober'... but after that, they refused to appear in their music videos. Tool were defined by a dark sound that fused the heavy grooves of early Black Sabbath and the weird atmosphere and imagery of Pink Floyd.
In 1996, Tool released their 2nd album 'Aenima' and it went to #2 on the US charts, eventually sold 3 million copies in the US... the singles and animated videos for 'Stinkfist' and 'Aenima' made it on MTV... the other radio singles were - 'H' ... 'Forty six & two'...
It would be 5 years before Tool returned in 2001 w/ the 'Lateralus' album... their music was becoming more complicated, their live shows were now a special effects spectacle. The album went to #1 on the US charts and sold another 3 million copies... 5 years later, they released the album "10,000 Days" in 2006... another #1 chart hit in the US, and sold 2 million copies.
13 years would pass by without a new studio album from Tool, but they kept busy touring... Finally, they released the long-awaited album 'Fear inoculum' in 2019 and that also went to #1 and has sold a half million copies in the digital downloading age.
Tool (the band) is: Maynard James Keenan (vocals), Adam Jones (guitar), Danny Carey (drums) and Justin Chancellor (bass)... original bassist Paul D'Amour left the band around 1995 after the 'Undertow' album.
