When someone calls out religions for being hypocritical, they aren't pointing a finger at everyone who engages with the faith. Just those that perpetuate the hypocrisy. Which nobody can deny. You guys should be happy when people call out hypocrisy and failings of religion and the humans that take advantage of faith to use and abuse others. Shouldn't be mad when attention is called to it. But I get it. You're young. Perspective takes time. God bless. Take care.
Don't pull back on Tool because you feel they are challenging your faith. I saw it in your face. And that's OK. You were patient. And open. Tool will stand for you having your faith. Even if they don't believe it. It's just a song about perspective and the hypocrisy of those who look the other way. ✌️❤🤟
Tool is spiritual. What they have ranted most about is the man made construction and manipulation of faith. Maynard has questioned God as all have and probably settles on the belief that it's beyond human comprehension. Just my 2 cents worth. ✌️
Agree! I took the meaning as the White Man devastated the Native Americans through greed, and at the same time, they sent "God Men" a/k/a Men of God to teach the Native Americans about God, Christianity, etc. Then the White Man said, "oh, by the way, I really,, really, REALLY, like your land." The rest is the proverbial history of the settlement of the US.
@@66marbor The irony is that it order to have TRUE faith you would need to question God. That is what makes it faith, the realization that you do not understand everything but "follow" regardless. If life was perfect and we never asked "Why God?" then faith would not be required.
This song has nothing to do with the church. Maynard has come out and said that a friend of Danny's (the drummer) was given a harsh jail sentence for weed and then later the judge got arrested for also doing drugs.
This. "Kangaroo hung the guilty with the innocent" Partially a reference to a "kangaroo court", in which a mock trial is used to falsely convict someone, but also referencing the incident you're referring to, which occurred in Australia.
Tool is one of the most unique, creative bands out there. Everyone in this band is a technical genius at what they do. I hope you do more of their music. The lead singer likes to point out the hypocrisy of most organized religion because his father was overbearing, abusive and claimed to be a Christian yet ran out on him and his mother as a child after his mom had a bad stroke and became an invalid in a wheelchair. He really goes after Scientology even more though. You should check out Aenema with lyrics.
He also had issues because he watched his mom (who apparently was a religious lady) slowly die of cancer. He didn't understand why this loving and benevolent thing that is supposed to be God would put his mother through that. That's what 10,000 days and Wings for Marie were about.
I never heard the summary/ meaning that you read out about this song before. I always believed that it was about the hypocrisy around drug laws; how the lawyers, people in government, jurors etc all take drugs, but someone can be sent to jail just for possessing a small amount of weed or whatever. But Tool songs do tend to have multiple meanings. Great reaction :)

I am 53 and Tool has been my favorite band since the 90's. Some people don't get them but that's because they aren't open to receive the greatness. You should ease into Tool by checking out the time signatures that are easier to follow. Try Jambi , or Vicarious next. I enjoy the channel and watching you guys discover some great music.
Fr, the Tool love here was beautiful from 4 out of 5 of them. I was a little disappointed that homie in the middle checked out after he took the song's meaning personally. He was jovial about it sure but his entire presence changed when he was initially head bopping and then just kind of dipped out mentally after finding out the meaning behind the track had something to do with religion. Tool isn't attacking anyone's personal faith, they are just shining a much needed light on all kinds of hypocrisy and if you don't see it in organized religion, that light is more for you than anyone else. That doesn't mean you have a change anything about your faith, it just gives you the information you can choose to use to manifest change from within your own religious community and call out that hypocrisy when you see it. Tool are not anti-religion, they just want to make the world a better place by informing and providing us with the knowledge necessary to achieve that collective goal.

Tool fan of 20+ years here. I’m also a Christian. I don’t think Tool is atheistic or anti-religion, they are simply skeptical of organized religion and hypocritical people who use religion to pursue power or to control others. For some context, a big part of the singer/lyricist Maynard’s life experience has to do with his very religious Christian mother who suffered immensely for years after having a stroke. I think Maynard struggled for a long time (at least for their first several albums) to understand why God allowed his mother, a very devout believer, to suffer like she did. PS - Loved the reaction! For future reference though, with Tool, lots of times their lyrics are a bit abstract on purpose so that listeners can interpret for themselves. So I’d take the words of anyone claiming to explain a song fully, with a grain of salt.
Some background for you guys- "10,000 Days" was the album this song was on, and I'd also the number of days that frontman Maynard's mom upheld her battle against cancer. Over the course of that process, the church community that she dedicated her life to essentially casted her out rather than supporting her. The community and family she dedicated her life to shunned her. Many emotions and themes can be found in this album that pertain to that.
Great reaction. There's another interpretation of the song, that they're criticizing the government, police, and lawyers for their hypocritical stance on "pot" use.
I've heard many takes on this song, but I can't say I've heard the native American thing before. To me it's about the hypocrisy of people in power who won't legalize marijuana, and are willing to judge people who do, all while being users and abusers of alcohol and prescription drugs.
finally !!!!! my favorite band.. thanks fellas ... this a different kinda deep lol from jungian ideas .. to their thoughts about god and politics and people
You don't have to be a victim to recognize an injustice and be angered by it. I don't know if any members of tool are Native American but as I have stated, they don't have to be Native American to know what was done was wrong and feel anger about it, and in this case it has another layer of wrong in the fact that the U.S. government deems itself morally righteous enough to decide what is right and wrong and deemed itself worthy to pass judgment upon us even with all blood on the hands of the politicians running the government.
First of all you guys are awesome.. all of you.. you’re going to hit 500k easily! Secondly TOOL is a group of amazing musicians.. you experience them.. 46&2… 7empest.. amazing. Saw Slipknot the other day.. youHAVE to watch their official video of “ Before I forget”… you’ll love it .. promise.. and they have their masks off.. song is a banger.. I look forward to you guys everyday.. you all have great chemistry..
I do think Before I Forget is my favorite slipknot song. As for Tool. Songs that absolutely rock: Sober, 46 and 2, and Pneuma I mean there are a lot of other great songs, but in regards to picking the absolute bangers, those are them.
Tool is probably the smartest and most artistically talented band of the last 30 years. Their whole catalog of songs are worth a listen here. You can listen to their songs a thousand times and for decades and still find new aspects and avenues of their music and lyrics to get into and discover. I recommend listening to Aenima, Intolerance, and The Grudge on this channel.
Tool transcends all genres. I hope you guys appreciate the complexities of how the music is written (I’m sure you do) but with the polyrhythms and meter changes shows their pure talent. Thanks for doing Tool and please do more.
Yes!!! Tool is one of the most intelligent bands I've ever heard. I gotta couple fun reactions for you: 46 & 2 is a popular Tool song, the underlying meaning is fascinating and a little research beforehand is recommended before you delve. THEN watch some kids do it justice from the O'Keefe Music Foundation, 'Kids Cover 46 & 2 by Tool'. It's so good, I still watch it now and then. Fun reaction guys! 😁
The song is about people in positions of power sending people to jail for getting high, when they themselves get high. Hypocrites. "Kangaroo courts", "guilty as the goverment", hung the juror", "liar, lawyer". Whoever wrote the synopsis you read must have been high.
Forty six & 2 is a banger! Laterals follows the mathematical Fibonacci Sequence (golden ratio). These guys are amazing and deep. Seen them live twice and was blown away. The lead singer owns a vineyard too.
I really love that y’all listen to different music with an open mind & even look up the information about the songs & your reactions & opinions are really interesting & fun ❤ I’m a huge TOOL fan & so happy y’all tried it out ❤
Omg yesssss! I love that y'all listened to The Pot. The lyrics are soo good...one day y'all need to watch the video for this song with the giant snails lol it's epic...if ya want more Tool songs listen to Schism, Pneuma, Stinkfist, Lateralus, The Grudge....i can go on and on lol also Maynard is in another band called A Perfect Circle and one of their best songs is Judith.
@@Thesilvercrayon yea i thought about that after i suggested it. Hopefully they do give it a listen and learn the backstory so that they can maybe understand why he wrote it.
Watching the video of Dany Carey playing Pneuma is absolutely amazing; if you want to be blown away by just one aspect of Tool's artistry, go watch it.
Most Tool lyrics have multiple layers of meanings, this song is a good example, though probably easier decoded than many others. Often Tool gets pretty esoteric. You always want to look into the lyrics after the song for this band. Sometimes different people see different meanings, like the one you read. I think the generally accepted meaning is hypocrisy, and it having to do with marijuana laws in the early 20th century and the use of kangaroo courts by lobbying interests like the timber industry to create them. IMO, this is the greatest current rock band.
Also, a possible dis toward Jimmy Page, as he had stated that Tool was regurgitating Zeppelin… so Maynard spit back about being eyeballs deep in “Muddy Waters” and getting “lemon juice” in your eye. This references the hypocrisy of Zep showing their influence of the Blues, and Page pointing fingers at Tool for showing their Zep influences.
@@ronaldsmith8966 Haha, that’s great! I hadn’t thought of that connection. Led Zep and Tool are both in my Top 3 all time, but it’s true. The first LedZep album is all covers or medleys, and many other songs on subsequent albums.
@@brettg274 Not my theory. Heard it or read it somewhere. “Shades of cozened indigo”… The Blues. Overall, I believe the song is about hypocrisy, with digs at governments, the judicial system, pot smokers (they’re hypocritical, too!), Jimmy Page, people as a whole.
Love your reactions guys, keep it going. FYI, find lyric videos for TOOL songs. It helps. More good stuff from them Forty Six & Two Eulogy Aenima Parabol/Parabola Right in two Part of me
You need to listen to this individually with headphones, you miss so much of their poly rhythms and how the music goes from one side to another and it's just a whole different experience.
TOOL is more of an experience..... they definitely get you thinking and open your mind to a deeper conversation about life and things... they really are an amazing band! You guys should do more...
I think the meaning they're referencing about the meaning of this song isn't the only interpretation. Yes the pot calling the kettle black and hypocrisy is the main theme. But it's also about drug use. How some will go out and make marijuana (the pot) illegal but at the same time get so high off other drugs like prescription or use alcohol. It's hypocritical condemn marijuana use and advocate for imprisonment of those who use it while being totally fine with alcohol being legal and there being a more dangerous prescription drug problem in this country.
gawl dern you already got 5k views in one hour thats crazy! "You guys will love Right in Two" as a fellow christian youll definitely go hmmm with this one! Its basically a song about the history of mankind from our beginning to now from the perspective of an Angel who has been sitting up there in Heaven watching us the whole time! He trying to figure us out why we do the things we do and why does god love us more then him! He trying to understand why father gave us free will and not him! ITS DEEP lol My personal favorite from this album 10,000 days!
You guys reacted to Danny from this band playing the drums , the band is just super bad ass in general. I hope you all enjoy the band as much as me and millions of others !😊
Apparently Maynard's mother was very religious and then she had a hemmorhage when he was very young. She went on to suffer from paralysis for roughly 10000 days before dying. Appears he fell out with religion after seeing such a devoted believer, his mom, suffer so and die.
Loving all these reactions guys! You should check out the band sabaton! They're a super popular swedish band most of their songs are in English they sing about famous heroes battles and events that really happened in history and it sounds amazing. I guess the genre would be power metal. Anyways love the channel guys!

I can promise you one thing guys. If you listen to this or Eulogy from Tool while you're high, you will travel dimensions.
All Tool songs are BANGERS
All tool songs are bangers. You opened a rabbit hole of 🔥
Do Aenema by Tool with the lyrics, that will blow your minds
Some background for you guys-
"10,000 Days" was the album this song was on, and I'd also the number of days that frontman Maynard's mom upheld her battle against cancer.
Over the course of that process, the church community that she dedicated her life to essentially casted her out rather than supporting her. The community and family she dedicated her life to shunned her.
Many emotions and themes can be found in this album that pertain to that.
I was going to say all this, thank you for beating me to it 🤘🏻
Also, A Perfect Circle’s “Judith”.
It is the number of days that she lost use of her legs - referenced on several songs.
How do we know they actually cast her out though?
Same with the album opiate
TOOL is the absolute best!
I wouldn't put too much stock in that interpretation guys. ✌️
Guys!!! You need listen Tool - Vicarious !!! Best option to continue with this amazing band 🙌🏼
My Dad said this band back in the day had to craziest following. They have a full German song about a chocolate cake recipe. But it sounds so crazy
die eier von satan/Eggs of Satan.
The Tool Army is just as big as ever
The way he said “and no eggs” was like the reaper in a bad mood
UND KEINE EIER!!!!
It's not a cake recipe but rather one for hash brownies.
finally !!!!! my favorite band.. thanks fellas ... this a different kinda deep lol from jungian ideas .. to their thoughts about god and politics and people
You can never go wrong with Tool! Keep riding this train!
The song comes from an actual court case where the judge was a pot smoker and gave a severe sentence to a defendant.
Tool Army here ! do more tool . You guys do a wonderful job. Tool are all master musicians. This is the ride that will open you guys mind.
Songs that absolutely rock:
Sober, 46 and 2, and Pneuma
I mean there are a lot of other great songs, but in regards to picking the absolute bangers, those are them.
Vicarious and Aenema are both fantastic Tool songs
Watching this with lyrics is a must.
I was wondering when you guys were gonna get to The Pot. It's a great song and the bass player takes front stage in this song, it's downright funky!
I like the O'Keefe cover better than the original. So Epic.
42 and 2 is deep.... very interesting
The song is about people in positions of power sending people to jail for getting high, when they themselves get high. Hypocrites. "Kangaroo courts", "guilty as the goverment", hung the juror", "liar, lawyer".
Whoever wrote the synopsis you read must have been high.
You don't have to be part of a specific group to hate the injustices they have faced. We all walk this earth. It'd help if we could learn to share it.
If you guys want to hear some of TOOL's sickest drum tracks...do "Ticks and Leeches".
Forty six & 2 is a banger! Laterals follows the mathematical Fibonacci Sequence (golden ratio). These guys are amazing and deep. Seen them live twice and was blown away. The lead singer owns a vineyard too.
I really love that y’all listen to different music with an open mind & even look up the information about the songs & your reactions & opinions are really interesting & fun ❤ I’m a huge TOOL fan & so happy y’all tried it out ❤
Tool is the greatest band in history, shit gets real deep
Whoever wrote the interpretation of the lyrical meaning musta been high
Tool. I never miss the show when they are in town. The art, lasers, visuals, and the music. Worth every penny.
You guys need to do Pneuma by them (if you haven't already) - LIVE, and do the drummer cam - Danny Carey rocks the hell out!
Yep
Already did that
they did it like a week ago ruclips.net/video/fsipEx12P68/видео.html
Cool, I'll look it up (very limited data keeps me from doing alot of exploring). Sorry Guys. PAX!
Schism! Is the Jam. Tool is deep and their music goes hard
Rosetta Stoned is a must, but definitely have the lyrics on the screen during the song. It's a story like song and it's a freaking trip!
I love seeing men of different cultures enjoying music I enjoy.
I'm a Christian, and I love the song Judith, but I know the meaning behind it. Not sure these guys will give it a chance.
@@Thesilvercrayon yea i thought about that after i suggested it. Hopefully they do give it a listen and learn the backstory so that they can maybe understand why he wrote it.
Vicarious
Right in two
Lateralus
46 & 2
are really good ones you should check out too!
The Grudge is a wonderful song by Tool too.
I want to see their reaction to the scream 😂
Came here to say something similar.
It helps.
More good stuff from them
Forty Six & Two
Eulogy
Aenima
Parabol/Parabola
Right in two
Part of me
Yes! Tool is amazing! The lead singer has another band called “A perfect Circle” and a good song from them is “The Noose”
these lyrics are fantastic
Highly recommend seeing Tool live. Life changing experience.
You need to listen to this individually with headphones, you miss so much of their poly rhythms and how the music goes from one side to another and it's just a whole different experience.
THIS!
Just now watching and in just love how much deeply you interpret this gem of a song. Love your song reviews/first time listens
gawl dern you already got 5k views in one hour thats crazy!
46 & 2 is probably the deepest song ever. Need to do it. Or Ænema
I seen them in Hawaii. 1992 in a cow pasture on the north shore. Tool, stp, fishbone, violent fems and primus. Amazing concert.
If you guys wanna experience some classic prog metal I'd recommend Dream Theatre as a great starting point. 'Pull Me Under' is prolly their most accessible song!
The bassline on this one is funky, love it
Tool is very different and you can't miss. Pick a song and let your mind go.
Y’all should do Stinkfist next🤘🏼
The guy in the middle would love Opiate with lyrics
LOL
Or Judith.
My absolute favorite Tool song🎧🎤🕪❤ so happy to see you all branching out. It says a lot about you all. That's why I love your page.
Tool - right in 2
As a black dude who loves rock, love seeing my people expand their horizons and not be ignorant and narrow minded. We can be so much more as a people & The Pot is legendary.
bro in the middle is genuinely upset for no reason. if you feel called out by this song maybe take a closer look at yourself
YES!! More Tool reactions, please!! I suggest 46 & 2, The Grudge, Descending, and Aenema. Loving this channel!
