Yeah, her life is a musical theater. Just to add, before Annie, she did The King and I. She also did Fiddler on the Roof, Sound of Music, Fantasticks, and a lot more.
I also saw her as Mrs. Lovett a few years ago. She doesn’t usually take on such roles, so it was a treat!
I never skip ads, to show my appreciation, and guyz it’s so tempting to skip because some of the ads was 11:34min. But I stick to it ,and thanks God I had finished 😅😅 .watching here in taiwan Godbless ❤

Lea's very first show was THE KING AND I (she was 7 years old), but ANNIE was her first lead role at age 9 (1980). The clips of MISS SAIGON are funny because they are from various years/productions/performances. "You will not touch him" (with Thuy) was from the 2000 Manila production (Lea is 29) and then Lea singing "Last Night of the World" with Simon Bowman would have been from 1989-1990 (Lea at 18 or 19). Weird to include a clip of Lea at the Oscars since it's one of the only times she didn't sing live! (Lea has mentioned this in interviews: there was so much "production" going on including the machine that was moving the flying carpet that made so much noise - they couldn't sing live.) Lea singing "I Still Believe In Love" (the character of Sonia from THEY'RE PLAYING OUR SONG) is from a concert. I have never seen any footage of Lea as Sonia. Weird that the listing for FLOWER DRUM SONG only has one year. It premiered in LA in 2001 and was on Broadway in 2002. The Broadway musical ALLEGIANCE was filmed, so it is available to view. I just don't know what platform (and I don't think it's free). Of course, Lea has a lot more credits (even if you only count musical ones) that aren't included in here: Lea as Fantine on Broadway in 2007 and the LES MISERABLES 25th Anniversary Concert in 2010, Lea as Mrs. Lovett in SWEENEY TODD in 2019, Lea playing Mother in a RAGTIME concert in 2013 (roughly 15 years after the original musical premiered), Lea as Grace Farrell in ANNIE at the Hollywood Bowl in 2018, Lea in the animated show "Centaurworld" on Netflix (several Broadway people involved in it and Lea sings a couple of songs), and I think they should have included a clip of Lea singing with Menudo back in the 1980s!
I also remember her doing Sound of Music for Repertory Philippines.

It didn't include her movies and TV show/guesting. It's a dream and bucket list to watch Lea on stage

I totally agree about Les mis. The movie was good but seeing it in person is on ANOTHER level. I literally sobbed from the first note until we’ll after the final note lol

Waleska, was there a westend production of OOTI? anyway What makes Once on this island more special to Lea is that for the first time she plays a Filipino. She played a Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, French but this time A goddess of love, Erzulie, a Filipino nurse that someone like her a Filipino finally playing a Filipino on stage. And did i just tell you that show won as Best musical Revival on the Tony awards? You can check out the cast performance on the Tony's with Alex Newell of Glee.
I hope you both will go see Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends on the West End running mid-Sept thru early Jan at the Gielgud. Lea will be returning to the West End in that show for the first time in 27 years. And Bernadette Peters will make her West End debut. I would love to hear Lea sing a whole bunch of Sondheim.

Also, you should watch Lea on Stars in the House from March 2020. It’s probably close to an hour - chatting with Lea and she sings a couple of songs.

Fun Fact : The contemporary song here that Efra loves was from a musical They're playing our song is where Lea fell in love with her co-star and she said maybe because the whole show was basically revolving around their characters and because of the kissing scenes. That ex was also the Broadway Thuy of Miss Saigon. They closed the show together. While Lea has another leading man in that same show. In Allegiance they become partners again many many years later. You could also check their duet and how professional they are. The tittle of the song is This is not over. Lyrics goes something like this.. This is not over, we are not over, you are my future not my past.. imagine singing this with an ex boyfriend and doing kissing scene afterwards.

@@MystyReiousThe actor you’re talking about is Michael K. Lee. He did co-star with Lea in the musical They’re Playing Our Song, but he was a replacement actor because the original guy couldn’t finish the run. Michael was a replacement Thuy on broadway, playing in the final weeks along with Lea (early 2001). He was her last boyfriend before she met her husband (in fall 2001). They worked together again in Allegiance where he was Lea’s love interest. He has also guested at one or two of her concerts as well. Definitely still friends after all these years.

The first time she ever aired back in the 70s when she did the OST of the original drama series Flor de Luna. And then she released I am but a Small Voice which also became a big hit. I hope you get to listen to those as well.

Lea Salonga is not just a great performer and artist, she is also a fantastic human being. She's been through a lot. She receive numerous accolades and recognitions yet she remained humble and authentic. Always thanking her for creating a path that gives opportunity to people, especially people of color, to show their talents to the world. She's a blessing from God.

BTW, the guy in the scene where she was holding "her child", is another Filipino, his name is Robert Sena. Lea's understudy was also a Filipina named Monique Wilson. So... they were some of the Filipinos that were with her in Miss Saigon. There were lots of others there too. Enjoy.

Hi Waleska and Efra. You might like to check out Lea Salonga's hit song when she was 9 years old. It's "I Am But A Small Voice", from her debut album "Small Voice", released in 1981. The album was a certified gold in the Philippines. This led to her own TV show called "Love, Lea."
