Correction Guys: maria clara and ibarra is a story of a teenager of the modern generation. And she was sucked into a novel book that was published when philippines was colonized by spain. The Novel title is Noli Me Tangere which was written by Jose Rizal, The national hero of the philippines.
Just to add, this novel is the eye opener for the Filipinos to stand up for the independence of the Philippines against the Spaniards colonialism

9:02, eyy Efra, i actually never thought ot that, but it's so true! "We made it!" 😂 The show "Maria Clara at Ibarra" was a huge hit!! the main character, Klay, travels back in time to the novels written by our national hero, José Rizal. Those two novels that José had written (along with other written works) was what sparked, or inspired the Philippine Revolution towards independence from Spain in 1898. It was one of the few reasons he was executed for by the Spanish government. These novels do not shy away from the brutal sufferings during colonialism, so yes, we do get to see that in the show. Although Klay in the show tries her best to help the characters of these novels who are suffering, she cannot alter the story of José’s novels. The show also covers social issues from the past that we unfortunately still grapple with today.
Julie Anne also sang in Japanese the OST of Voltes 5 Legacy Philippine franchise. Hope you can react to it. And, more of Filipino movies and series OST. Thanks.

I remember Julie Anne's scene where she's singing (in latin, i think) was so good and one of my favorite scenes in the series, i know she's a great singer and can reach high notes but i didn't know she can sing like an opera singer😭💕

Julie Anne San Jose portrayed Maria Clara so well. She's been one of the voices behind the ost in GMA Dramas way back when she was a teenager. She got a lot of praises when she sung the ost of Descendants of the Sun Adaptation and Voltes V Legacy.
Julie Anne San Jose started showbiz when she was a teenager hence the experience and expertise that she has is exceptional especially when she grew up singing with the likes of Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid, and Jaya. She also sang the Philippine version of Japanese OST of Voltes V. Btw, She also sang "You are My Everything" live and it's good as the recorded one

I think at the time you watched it you did not recognize Julie Anne is the actress playing the Maria Clara in the colonial era. They have 2 Maria Claras in the show. A GenZ nursing student and the real Maria Clara character in Dr. Jose Rizal's book Noli Me Tangere. Dennis Trillo is playing Ibarra's character. That is why the show is called "Maria Clara at Ibarra". A collaboration of a conservative and a modern Maria Clara + Ibarra.
They had a Spanish language coach for the actors in Maria Clara at Ibarra, and he was especially impressed by how Julie Anne San Jose learned her Spanish lines as the Maria Clara character. Maria Clarra at Ibarra is a fantasy series based on the novels, "Noli Me Tángere" and "El Filibusterismo" written by our National Hero, Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda, a patriot, physician, and man of letters who was an inspiration to the Philippine nationalist movement.
The show is now accessible to a larger audience, as it made its debut on Netflix on April 14.
Wow 👏👏I love how you eloquently described the melody for "The Iron Heart" soundtrack!! The series recently ended but it's such a great show! The song is originally sung by Khimo, who did the original version featured in season 1, which I would recommend because you can hear the vocals better than on this one. I find that the orchestra tends to drown out the vocals especially during the chorus. Great reaction!
You should check Julie Anne San Jose's song titled "isang gabi" its a collaboration with Rico Blanco. The song is full of emotions

To dive deeper; Maria Clara at Ibarra was based on the novel written by our national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, called "Noli Me Tangere", which is Latin for "Touch Me Not". Noli Me Tangere is the first part of the series. The second is El Filibusterismo. Both novels depict the life of the Filipinos during the Spanish Colonial Years, especially under the hands of the clergy, which had a really big influence in the governance of the Philippine cities. Some of which are exposure of their bad conducts to society. His work was one of the catalysts to open the minds of the Filipinos to gain independence from the Spanish regime. Aside from that, this was seen by the Catholic church during that time as an insult to them and a threat to the peace and order of the society. Dr. Jose Rizal was captured, imprisoned, exiled in Dapitan and eventually was executed at the now Luneta Park. His death caused more uprising for independence.
Julie Anne portrayed Maria Clara in this series. It's a masterpiece. You should watch it. ❤

That MARIA CLARA AND IBARRA is an adaptation of a book by JOSE RIZAL (our National Hero) that plays a great role in our History. That book depicts how life was during the Spaniards Colonization here in PH. How PRAYLES or SPANISH PRIESTS were inhumane in many things during those times. I'm long retired from watching telenovelas or tele dramas here but that TELESERYE really hooked me up from the start til the end.
JULIE ANNE also played the role of MARIA CLARA from the book in that TELESERYE .. And she played it wonderfully.

The Iron Heart just concluded recently. For me this teleserye is one of the best series that carries action/spy theme, by this it become successful not just here in the Philippines but also in Indonesia.

Sarah G. was only 19 yo in that MV. And A Very Special Love was also the NUMBER 1 Song on MYX YEAREND COUNTDOWN. The MOVIE also was THE HIGHEST GROSSING FILM in 2008 making her the BOX OFFICE QUEEN.
Angeline Quinto is the queen of teleserye and Eric Santos is the king of teleserye in the Philippines, they have many songs that hit the Philippine industry, please do a compilation and reaction to them and you will be surprised by their Star Factor and talent.

Maria and Ibarra is really nice because we learn a lot about our history. The story actually is a girl who went inside the book of Noli and El fili. Two books written by our national hero in the Philippines who is Jose Rizal. She didn't read the books so her professor let her experience the story for real.

FYI DOTSPH was still shooting their last episodes when the pandemic happened so the latter part of the show suffered production wise. Glad that they still finished the show.
