This 10th Anniversary Concert in 1995 would not be called "Les Misérables: The Dream Cast in Concert" for nothing. Everyone in that stage are musical theater gods and goddesses!
What makes Lea's performance sooo much better than the others is her attack on the low notes. Her thicker low notes adds emotion, depth, and color to the song.
"you're here, that's all i need to know" GAHHHHD I AM SO EMOTIONAL whenever i hear that line from this song cause you know she's dying and all she wanted was to see him one last time 😭😭🥹🥹🥹🥹😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Sharing the mic while hugging each other + acting their characters + changes in their emotions (Lea not wanting to let go and Michael's change in emotion from breaking down to being strong and comforting to pain and sadness) + her brother Gavroche's reaction while looking at them = one very emotional performance.
Like you, I have watched the 10th anniversary performance countless times. And this is my favorite moment from that performance. The musical and emotional sensitivity of the two of them in this duet is absolutely amazing.
this is my fave of all the Les Mis moments ever. as much as i love Frances Rufelle and my she will always be Eponine, but this is the best version of A Little Fall of Rain. Lea's voice and acting, superb and Michael Ball, incredible. love their chemistry.
I love Michael Ball so much! He will always be "ideal" Marius. Lea Selonga is just freaking awesome! I got to see her in Miss Saigon and in one her her solo concerts and I swear her voice is flawless. She totally floored me at her show when she said she loved Hamilton and then sang, "Burn" holy crap! It was phenomenal ❤️ They're both amazing! Have you watched Michael Ball sing "Gethsemane" for the Andrew Lloyd Webber celebration? Beautifully done and a little different take on Jesus Christ Superstar.
Jessie Mouse - Totally agree. Michael's been singing "Gethsemane" for years and, his interpretation has evolved as his voice has changed. IMO, he just keeps getting better. I know there''s a huge difference between singing the song as part of the show and singing it in a concert setting or tv studio, but I still prefer Michael actually singing the song instead of screaming it as so many do.
Michael and Lea are the best Marius and Eponine i swear. And this is the best A Little Fall Of Rain ive seen.. not to mention the chemistry both have on stage..ur right they look good together..
Been following Lea and Michael for many years. This is one scene that I could watch many many times over and and each time my eyes would well up in tears. They're extremely good together.
I always feel that “On My Own” is the first crack in dam and ‘A Little Fall of Rain” is the dam breaking altogether. Les Mis is still my all time favorite show, although Come From Away is a close second. I am so upset that I am 49 and still have not been able to perform in this amazing piece of theatre.
When he finishes that last sentence....tears... goosebumps...EVERYTIME I watch this cast!😭❤️ It was sooooooo well done. It's hard for me to watch a different cast. Magical.
One of the best heartfelt performances of the 10th year Les Miserable concert. Hope you could do some reactions of Lea Salonga as Kim in Miss Saigon play.
Fantastic reaction Marc! I can definitely recommend watching the full 10th anniversary concert - it's not without reason that it was called The Dream Cast. ;) As for requests - I'm going to stay with Les Mis and Michael Ball. It would be fun to see a reaction to him singing Empty Chairs at the 10th anniversary followed by his performance of Javert's Suicide in last years staged concert at the Gielgud (this was filmed and is available to buy as a download - the dvd/blu-ray release has been delayed due to covid).
I felt sorry for Michael as he sang last years recorded concert having seen it live, the night of the recording he had only just returned I believe after having bronchitis and he couldn’t hit the notes as well as when we saw him live and also saw him in March live and he just nailed it. But I have the 10 year copy on dvd wish they would do a download of it, 25 year concert, film, and last years concert as a download. Fantastic. Anyone who buys last years download half of the money is going to three charities.
@@jacquelinesharp6022 How lucky you are to have seen him live so often. I'm totally jealous! The last night of the concert he passed Javert's coat to Bradley Jaden and they sang a duet of "Stars" that was absolutely wonderful, Were you there for that performance?
First time I’ve seen this having discovered Lea in recent weeks after having A Whole New World as one of my favourite ever songs. Sobbing. The emotion Lea conveys. Just wow.
This concert and especially Michael Ball in this is what made me fall in love with musical theatre. I found the DVD under a stack of others at the care home i volunteered at when i was 18 yrs old and it completely blew my mind. I watched it every day for weeks and weeks and it still holds such a special place in my heart.
i bought this vhs tape when it was first released back in 1995 (or 96... can't remember, i'm old now LOL) and would watch this song performed over and over. i'm lying...i'd watch the entire vhs over and over!!! please react to "bring him home" and "empty chairs at empty tables" from this performance. this was truly the DREAM CAST!
yep// never been a better cast EVER.. and never will be.. these days the cast is just full of over trained opera singers who literally all sound th shame.. this cast all had individual voices
I’ve always been blown away by Michael Ball’s voice, but being able to see him close up in this performance instead of from a distance in the audience...well, I’m in love. Such a gentle intensity in his voice AND face. Like so many others here I can’t get enough of this performance! Brings me to tears every time.
Thanks for this Marc! Lea paved the way to a lot of Filipino artists to grace both West End and Broadway shows. Please please please, react to different KIMs of Ms. Saigon played by Lea and other Filipino artists. Thank you!
Gah, I cried all the time in this scene. I always cant help but root for Eponine to be with her love even until her last breath here. Well performed by these two outstanding performers. Classic from start to finish. What puts the final nail in the coffin is hearing Marius finish that last word alone. Oh man, thats some powerful acting!
I saw these two in concert. Breathtaking. If you don't cry when she fails to finish her line and dies, you have no heart. Michael Ball is so in the moment.
This is my fave part in Les Mis and Lea’s ‘On My Own’ and I shed tears everytime! My heart flutters everytime i hear Lea sing she’s just magical to hear my idol, my hero since childhood! More Lea please! 🙏🏼💙🇵🇭
I’ve loved Lea Salonga since I was a teenager. Every time I think I can get through this without crying I’m made a fool. I’m happy I found your channel today! Definitely subscribed. You made me smile. If you’re in a mood to react to something that is not musical theatre but has some of the best female vocals out there, you should check out Nightwish - Ghost Love Score Live at Wacken. Floor Jansen is absolutely amazing (and it never hurts to have the Nightwish army descend upon your channel).
My comment maybe a repeat of the already obvious, but this rendition to me, is the best that beats all the past or present performances of this particular scene. They just complimented each other so well, more so of course on eponine as this was her shining moment (unfortunately at death). I’d like to think that lea is and always will be eponine and eponine is Leah.... but wait, her Fantine’s “come to me” was also a champion in my book. Two of my absolute favorite performances of Lea.
I’ve just clicked on this and I can feel the tears already. I just love this song... would appreciate more reactions to Micheal Ball or more Les Mis I just can’t get enough. 💓
I discovered your channel earlier today and commented that this was my favorite Les Miserable Song. Michael Ball and lea Salonga tear my heart every time. I am glad you chose this to react to, as watching your reaction (even hearing your advice and explanations) made it worth while. This song, when I first heard the musical all those years ago on a soundtrack of the original London Cast with Michael ball as Marius, sealed this as my favorite and Eponine as my favorite. Interesting note, in the soundtrack, hearing Fantine's last song (I don't recall who played her), I was disappointed (not knowing the musical at all) and complained "she sounds like she's dying and out of tune." My friend had to explain that she was dying. Then we got to this song and I knew Eponine was dying without explanation, and it didn't sound out of tune or disappointing. It was a heartbreaking, beautiful moment. It takes a wonderful master singer to evoke that kind of emotion and still pull off a death scene without sounding like she's out of tune.
Les Miserable is one of my favorite ones, I couldn't stop watching to your reaction, I love your authenticity, thank you for sharing... And yes I cried at that part too...
You are my favorite reactions videos. I love the look of reverence on your face when Lea sings is priceless. She has the most amazing voice! She is amazing.
omg thank you for granting my request! i'm sure i'm not the only one who requested it, but still hehehe! thank you! i wanna hug you when you cried! more of lea salonga reactions please???
Those two are just awesome!!! How I wished to be Lea at that moment. (Many reasons😊) They are so authentic. To see your reaction made my tears run even more😉
I loved watching you watch this. This is why I enjoy taking people to great theater performances, because I love watching someone's reaction for seeing great performances like this for the first time.
Thank you Marc, I've worked on 7 productions of Les Mis around Melbourne Australia, always behind the barricade ready for the next battle scene were its hard to hear.
Dang it, shouldn’t be slicing onions when watching this clip 😢 ... I first saw Lea Miz in the West End over 20 years ago. The waterworks started with I Dreamed a Dream and didn’t let up till the end. This song, however, really turned on the flow. And this ... with Lea Salonga and Michael Ball ... truly heartbreaking performance.
Wow! I’ve always loved this, but the words are hitting me in such a new way during this pandemic! We’ve had so many people having to die alone! The comfort of being present or having loved ones present is so beautiful and comforting . I’m so sad for those who’ve had to go it alone
I just discovered Michael Ball and I've missed 30 years of him! This post of yours was phenomenal. Love Michael Ball!!! The US doesn't showcase musical theater talents enough.
I absolutely loved this concert, I cry at this every time, Michael Ball nails this every time, and with empty chairs and empty tables, the 10 year concert of this is better than the 25 yr, saw the live concert last year with Michael as Javert and chose to see John Owen Jones as Jean Val Jean, then saw Alfie Boe in the cinema version, I prefer JOJ version of bring him home to Alfie Boe’s. Don’t get me wrong I am a fan of Michael and Alfie saw them both in March for the third time. I just didn’t get the emotions from Alfie as Jean Val Jean that I did from JOJ which mad me sob. Loving seeing what you say about these. Michael is definitely one of the best west end stars we have.
If you need to decompress emotionally, I suggest alcohol and Les Mis. The stress just falls right out of your eyeballs. I liked Lea as Fantine in the 2010 concert too, but her Eponine was untouchable (though Samantha Banks was damn good. Damn good). Please react to Fantine's death. Salonga, Henshall, whomever you like. I need more videos like this to go with my anxiety and bourbon.
I concur. I drank a bottle of Prosecco and watched this concert (for like the zillionth time) last month after I came home from unexpectedly putting my 16 y/o cat down. I just needed a good, cathartic cry and some good music. I felt much better.
Lea Salonga can touch an emotional chord in me with her voice, her acting and her overall performance unlike anyone else. I must have watched and rewatched her final moments as Eponine at least a dozen times... has anyone got a Kleenex? I have some dust in my eye. 😢
I always tear up at the first “I don’t feel any pain”, she’s literally dying & trying to comfort him. Eponine is one of most tragic characters in theater.
Hi Mike, just like you I empathize with the characters of whatever I'm watching and I literally cry oftentimes. Even if I sing in church, when I feel a song like Ave Maria, I get teary-eyed. Best and God bless on your successful vlog!
Let me say that I love your commentary and your love for musical theatre. Your obsession for les miserables is a kindred feeling I share. It is the greatest musical score ever written and when its performed by such majestic talent its indelible. In my opinion Philip Quast and Lea Salonga are the two most gifted musical stage performers of all time. To see them with Colm Wilkinson and Michael Ball elevates les miserables to a level no production can reach. Name one other musical in which I dreamed a dream is maybe only the fifth or sixth best tune. You are spot on les miserables is the best.
Thanks for review, like you Les Mis is one of my favourites although Hambleton is up there now too. Please review Michael Ball in "Empty Chairs and Empty Tables" and from Aspects of Love 'Love Changes Everything" It makes me smile watching your review of Groffsauce from Hambleton as Michael Ball is a spitter too. I saw him in Aspects of Love and needed a tissue during his solo's, not complaining though.
Revisiting this tonight and was shocked. How is it possible you never saw Michael and Lea's performance until now? I hope you went on to watch the whole 10th Anniversary concert. It's perfect,
Lea has mastered the art of dying for years from Ms Saigon!
That's true! She's a pro at dying in someone's arms.
😂😂😂
🤣 you got me. Love love love Ms Lea Salonga❤
@@peerah So true! Not just dying on stage, but all three of those roles die in someone’s arms.
“if you don’t break down at this moment, you don’t have a soul.”

Samantha Barks, not Banks.
LEA SALONGA'S voice is just so so so perfect.
Well, you can't spell CRYSTAL CLEAR without LEA in it.

Totally!!!!!
Truth and it was my introduction to the musical at the tender age of eight. What can I say? I was spoiled forever
Perfectly perfect by Michael and Lea.❤
What makes Lea's performance sooo much better than the others is her attack on the low notes. Her thicker low notes adds emotion, depth, and color to the song.
Michael Ball was the quintessential musical theatre tenor and has morphed into an amazing baritone. And Lea Solonga is a freak if nature.

I concur. I drank a bottle of Prosecco and watched this concert (for like the zillionth time) last month after I came home from unexpectedly putting my 16 y/o cat down. I just needed a good, cathartic cry and some good music. I felt much better.

Loved your reaction to this makes me tear up everytime I watch this version, but Michael and Lea are just the best that musical theatre have got.
Thank you so much.
Lea on any of her Miss Saigon performance please!
Yes! There are good quality videos on RUclips of the Manila production in 2000. Sun and Moon and Last Night of the World with Lea and Will Chase is 🔥
Lea Salonga can touch an emotional chord in me with her voice, her acting and her overall performance unlike anyone else. I must have watched and rewatched her final moments as Eponine at least a dozen times... has anyone got a Kleenex? I have some dust in my eye. 😢
Thank you, this one gets me in the feels every time. They're both so perfect together
Love, Love, Love . . . Saw it twice in London and a couple more times in the States!
I love watching your heart break just like mine does every time I listen to this.
I always tear up at the first “I don’t feel any pain”, she’s literally dying & trying to comfort him. Eponine is one of most tragic characters in theater.
100% to your last comment!
I feel what you meant...so touching... got me to the core! I can watch this over and over and over and still get the same intense reaction. Marvelous!
Hi Mike, just like you I
empathize with the characters of whatever I'm watching and I literally cry oftentimes. Even if I sing in church, when I feel a song like Ave Maria, I get teary-eyed.
Best and God bless on your successful vlog!
I've watched this like a gazillion times and still makes ne cry... Superb performance I must say.
I just found your channel. Really enjoying it. Never apologizes for to much Les Miz. I remember watching this on repeat while packing for camp.
It's perfect,
My favourite singer of all time. Michael is emotion. I love this duet. Makes me weepy.
