One correction, the resurrection power has ZERO relation to the Pyro Authority, and the Pyro Dragon was not revived he just faked his own death. The power to bring back the dead came from Xbalanque's deal with Ronova to create the "rules" of Natlan and this was only possible because the Ley Lines of Natlan were disconnected from the rest of Teyvat.
It's simple really. It's a rule vs rule dilemma. The paradox that Capitano said is this, since he is cursed with immortality as per Ronova's rule, he cannot die, since the rule cannot be broken. In Mavuika's case, the rule is, whoever uses Ronova's power at that time must pay the price which is "death". Since Capitano took Mavuika's place, the rule shifted to him, and it's a rule vs rule dilemma.
With Ronova and Capitano yeah. But i just wanted to highlight Natlan, Mavuika and the Lord of the Night's dilemma with Capitano's and Ronova in that segment too. i feel a lot of people focused more on just capitano and Ronova. and just called Natlan arc a friendship arc 😂
I've always wondered why they cursed khaenri'ah with immortality, it seems a little silly to keep one of your biggest enemies alive forever. Could it have something to do with the fact that they were corrupted by the Abyss and Celestia did not want Abyss Corrupted people to die and enter back into the Ley Lines? The immortal curse is their way of keeping them separate? I wonder if Capitano entering the Night Kingdom now could have some unforeseen consequences.
Or the opposite. They first used those cores in the robots and in desperate attempt to save Khaenrriah, they implanted it an improved version in a human that is the Capitano.
Immortality vs Death paradox. Are you truly immortal if your soul is dead? Are you truly dead if your soul is immortal? Capitano has both. He is physically immortal but his soul died a long time ago. Instead it got replaced by countless souls of warriors who did not have the curse of Immortality. This meant both Capitano and the souls were alive and dead at the same time, just in two different ways. What pissed Ronova was the fact that Capitano asked her to let go of either one of them. If she had let go of Capitano and accepted the souls instead, he would become even more powerful by not having to carry the burden of the dead, while being an Immortal, and he would have come again to challenge her authority. If she had let go of the souls and accepted Capitano, it meant she would have broken her own rule by giving Death to an Immortal, which is also outside of her Authority and would have angered the Heavenly Principles. So she took Death in different forms from both the Capitano and the souls. Capitano's "death" was his soul getting merged with the Lord Of The Night Kingdom, while the souls he carried had already suffered a physical "death" a long time ago. This also ties in neatly with the Xbalanque's pact with Ronova: "Victors shall burn bright while the loser must turn to ash". Nowhere in their pact it was defined that victor has to be the Pyro Archon, but a Hero who could use Ronova's power. Ronova also stated if the Victor is afraid of his death than she would claim the souls of countless innocent instead. Capitano was truly an exception: He was a Hero, he had Ronova's power(or curse), wasn't afraid of his death but he also carried the souls of countless innocent who had nothing to do with the Five Sinners. He was a living paradox of her own rules, hence she fulfilled Xbalanque's pact in the aforementioned way because she was not allowed to give complete death to both the Victor and the souls. So half and half deaths of both of the groups was the best possible option.
I love that you pointed out the hit he took at his heart! I had forgotten that part completely and you are so right, our boy was leaky. I do want to point out for clarity: There are two rules at play - Immortality and Death I shall call them. Death is a rule that Ronova set and we actually get to see her set, so we can go to the primary source. She said if you use her power than /either/ you must die /or/ countless souls will die in your stead, this is the Death Rule. Now she clearly didn't actually mean countless and I wish they had called it a multitude for pedantic reasons, but she does seem to enjoy dramatics so let's let her have this one. Thrain walked into the meeting about Death, and said, "Yo, peeps, I got like countless souls in me, so I can be option 2." This was verified by the LoNK and as Death is a /rule/ and not just payment, Ronova is bound to take either of the options she had given as payment. This means, so long as Mavuika says okay and doesn't sacrifice herself, Ronova has to take Thrain as payment for Death. But Thrain over here has Immortality with a capital I as a rule. If you kill him then you killed an Immortal and that is a paradox of big bad. So she can (A) Trigger said paradox, (B) Demand her Death, vacating the Immortality, or (C) Relinquish her Death, allowing the Immortality to stand. Ronova went with (C). She did not allow the paradox. She did not get her Death because Immortality /must/ stand. The Shade lost, had to break a personal rule, and exposed the fallibility of the heavens. Not a bad win for the Captain.

Sorry I’m still confused. Before Capitano arrived, Ronova said she would accept Mavuika’s sacrifice to the Lord of Night (by merging into the fire) as death. That means to her, merging life into the night kingdom is the same as death. Then, when Capitano’s soul merged into the night kingdom forever, isn’t that fulfilling the death requirement of Ronova? On the other hand, his body remains undead in the mortal world, thus obeying the rule that he must not die. So, where is the paradox? By separating Capitano’s body (undead) & soul (go to night kingdom i.e dead), there is actually a way that both rules are fulfilled.

Being out of balance does mean being vulnerable.

Wuh? Where you get the notion he is a cyborg?
my thought was... if a pacemaker for a heart makes you a cyborg. then a modified heart to gather souls makes you one too 🤣
It is still very confusing
I'm a bit sad because Hoyoverse is cutting the action further and further... The story game is getting slower and slower making us drag and drag to it... 😢
wdym cutting the action? care to explain a bit?
