Saved me 💰💰by watching this video. Ordered the same brand air filter the VW dealership uses and it only cost me $15 vs. $50-$100 at the dealership. Thank you!
Great video, I was ready to throw out the whole cover because of my distaste for it weeks ago never realized the filter was attached until trying to replace it today lol.
This is such a greatly done video, your instruction are easy to follow. But sadly I wasn't strong enough to pop up the air box I tried so damn hard and got stuck at that step. I had to eventually have a guy friend come help. I sent them your video and he came by did it with no problems. Thank you.
Two tricks to make it easier. 1, use wd40 or silicone spray with a straw to spray the two front ones before taking it off. 2, use a clip removing tool or a screw driver to push up on the front rubber mounts. Allot better than risking cracking the plastic.
Oh hohh man you made it look so easy I ended up cracking my housing but only the shallow part I had to take it off the complete opposite way you did it or else I would of ripped the housing in half but it was worth it because the previous owner never changed the filter and it's the original factory one inside after 149k miles!! Besides that I just used alittle sealant to bind the crack I just made but thanks for the video 😆😎
Sooo....the 5 numbered screws don't need to come completely out of the top piece of plastic AND a wiring harness attached that I couldn't get off, I just worked around it. Thank you from mom and teen daughter! That thing was filthy!
This, and the oil filter replacement. Guaranteed mess!!!!! Why don't they use a normal spin-on filter instead of a cartridge? My 1962 MG had a similar setup and I hated it! German engineers must be sadists to force people to torture themselves and then laugh at us.
Thank you so much for this video. Can you please do more or as many videos as you can on a 2012 Volkswagen golf 2.5 5.L, it's the type of car I have & there aren't many videos on this particular year and model...it would appreciate it so much...
Just got done with changing mine. Just a warning, I wouldn't do that method at 0:34 unless you don't have the tools to unscrew the two side bolts/screws. I tried it and part of the plastic clip snapped off with just a push of my finger lol..
What brand hose clamp pliers did you use. That clamp is a pain in the rear end. Removing it is easy getting it back on is hard, not sure it’s meant to come off. Too bad the Germans couldn’t use a more user friendly clamp.
Just did mine with regular pliers. Pliers have to open far and close clamp all the way. Once I had it squeezed all the way I went left, right, left, right. Next time I'm going up with the clamp.
Thanks for the great video! I replaced the filter and put everything back in order, but when I turn the car off I hear a beeping sound coming from that area? Is that a sensor that needs to be replaced or something else? Thank you!
i assume its because they wanted to stick the airfilter housing under the engine cover to make the engine bay look neat. just your standard german engineer things!

Beetles made before 2014 equipped with the 5 cylinder engine will have a very similar procedure.
The 5-cylinder was available until the 2014 models.
