    It's always great to see you demonstrate the movements. It's also great, because you're always so humble about how this is a journey and how long it has taken (in some cases) to even get the beginner phase right (muscle-ups are the one you talk most about, but you've also recorded others). I feel like that's so inspirational for those of us who haven't been athletic our whole lives and are coming to this with a little bit of fear or impatient perfectionism. Great video, as always!

    Yes classroom chalk is way different Derek. That is calcium carbonate whereas what we use that is gym chalk is magnesium carbonate. Classroom chalk becomes like a messy paste when you sweat and does not increase your grip whereas gym chalk is way way better at absorbing sweat. Hope that helps :)

      Hi Derek, this might seem like a stupid question but since you eat a whole foods plant based diet, how do you manage to maintain your muscle size? Is it to do with how LONG you work out in a day (how long is that btw?) or just the amount of times you work out in a week? I'm trying to figure out a balance for myself. Thanks :)

    • @lukedavies6646
      @lukedavies6646 6 лет назад

      +BounceTo TheBeat the diet shouldn't have too much of an effect on your ability to maintain muscle size, as he's pretty onto it with that. As long as you're working each muscle group 2-3 times a week you should be somewhere in the optimal range and the diet mainly comes down to getting enough calories.

    • @theparadiddlydoo2771
      @theparadiddlydoo2771 6 лет назад

      *Luke* Hmm interesting. Idk if he's going to answer it in his Ask me Mondays video but I'm interested to know how long he works out for? At the moment, I don't have the time to work out 2-3 times during the week, unless it's in the morning before work but that means I'd have to get up at 3.45 or 4.00am or do the workout after work but it'd be a bit of a stress factor on my body given that I work in landscape. So there's lots of heavy lifting involved in my job. I'd like to stay clear of any protein powders as well and hope that one day I develop enough muscle because right now, I've got a very lean figure with a very low ratio of fat on me haha

    Hey Derek, noticed you were doing bicep curls OMG LOL would have never thought to see this, but do what you like! =) Depending on where you want the greatest tension will determine where you want your elbows. At the bottom of the range, elbows forward more. For best tension at the peak of the curl, try pulling your elbows back a bit more. Also, the further decline the bench you use will also mean you need to place your elbows further backwards to get that full tension at peak range as it's almost like resting at the peak when you get more perpendicular to the ground. Even though I am mostly here for your lifestyle with veganism, I am a PT and still enjoy watching your videos as you never know when you will learn something new! =) Great videos, keep up the good work!

  • @Aras483
    @Aras483 6 лет назад +5

    Hey Derek , you might want to start incorporating front lever training in your pull days since there are so many vertical pulling exercises in your workout like you said and they are purely bodyweight exercise as you might know. Also I want to ask that whether you count reps in any particular exercise or you just only go to failure in every set without counting how much reps you've done.Thanks and keep up the good work man.

    One of my favorite one arm pull up progressions that I do in the gym are with rings. I pull with one arm on one ring and only my middle finger on the second ring and rotate the ring when I'm going up, you should give it a try.

    Awesome video! I really love videos like this so would love to see more of them! Three questions:
    1) Why don't you just do bodyweight rows? You can do them at the smitmachine as well and put your feet on a bench to make it harder :) (or put some weight on you)
    2) Although I really agree that dropsets are awesome, don't you think you would benefit from using another style of training sometimes? For example do a very heavy day where you only do the pull ups with 50lbs and those other hard exercices to get more reps in with the heavy weight :)
    3) As your workouts are mostly random I guess you don't have an exact answer for this one, but do you have an idea about how much rest you take in between sets?
    Thanks again for the awesome videos! Definitely my favourite RUclipsr!

    Great video! Would love to see push & leg! It can sometimes really help me that you also film the parts where your muscles are tired, where you go, as you say, into failure on the dropsets, because that's the reality of it and most of the workout stuff people put on social media is the first sets, the part where they're not yet struggling, so it kinda looks really easy? idk if it makes sense, but I like your style :)

    Hi Derek. I have a 3 year old son and was wondering about pros / cons to a more vegan based diet for him. I know there are certain food elements he needs to grow at that age, but i also want to feed him as healthy as i can. Thank you for all the great videos.
