I agree about Japanese sellers. Even with shipping and duty, i have been able to get good deals on watches. However, when I look up the seller, i also google their store to see if there is a physical location. The 2 sellers I'm comfortable using both have actual boutiques.
Agreed. I bought two Omegas from a Japanese seller and wasn't disappointed.
@killerdove123 the stores: Closer and Purpose
@@seanthomxx2694 Interesting. I also said closer and my comment got deleted. wtf.
I bought our Cartier wedding rings from Japan on ebay - they were like new and a fraction of the cost of retail
@simonorr594 Congratulations on your future marriage and your purchase. That's nice to here.
I bought my 20 year old Omega Speedy via eBay some 4 years ago from Japan. It was near new & not a mark on it. The transaction was seem less & I’m actually wearing it now!
My $5K Chrono24 purchase was a shit show. Dealer kept switching up his excuses for the watch not arriving as described with the items it was supposed to include. Chrono24 backed the dealer but offered me a $100 refund rather than making the dealer solve the problem. It’s what a platform does when there is a problem that tells you everything you need to know.
This just sealed it for me. Won’t ever buy anything on Chrono24. Too bad….
@@taitun4life Just for inf fellas... I've bought a few watches on Chrono 24 and never had a hitch
They use an escrow company, you don’t release the funds until you’ve verified what you received. This comment doesn’t make sense.
@@roycedot Spot on
@@roycedotYup unless he passed the 14 day window.
I'm currently in Japan on vacation. I've been buying from Japanese sellers for a number of years and have always had great luck. It has been nice to visit some of these sellers in person. I've also picked up a couple of new additions to the collection that I would not have been able to order to Canada for anywhere near the same cost.
I’ve sold 4 watches on Chrono24. You have to list lower than lowest dealer. It’s worth it though.
I've purchased watches (Omega and Seiko) and cameras (Canon) from Japan without a hitch. Their descriptions of the items are spot on and the sellers I've dealt with were very helpful and conscientious. But of course, do your own research first.
Going in April any suggestions for places to look in Tokyo Osaka or Kyoto?
@@MidLifeJetsetters I recommend watch shops.
@@WetLettuce-kc2qm came up with that one all by yourself huh?
@@MidLifeJetsetters I answered your query, didn't I?
The Japanese are honourable
Hey TT, like you I live in SO. Cal. Where do I find a reputable dealer of pre-owned Rolex's? Thanks
Does NYC have a sales tax? I live in England and think that it might be more cost-effective to go over to America and have a holiday and buy my Datejust rather than buying from Chrono24 or Ebay and having to pay shipping and customs. Plus I can haggle face to face. Good videos keep up the good work.
I tried shopping on Corona 24 and the response back from a lot of sellers was very sketchy. Fortunately after a year and a half I was able to find My watch on eBay and with enough back and forth I was confident..
You should post a video with a review of your thoughts of all seller locations and the associated reputation. I did not know about India or Japan but those were both very helpful insights. I'd love to hear more.
Jory does ttt shop mend or service watches ...????
Tic toc watch repair
That citizen looks utterly lovely
I bought many watches trough eBay and didn't really have any issues.
Purchases from Japan are usually good deals and honest remarks, if you would want to return, they don't give you any problems and sometimes they will cover shipping cost.
it may sound bad but 99.999% watches from India are (replicas)
Chrono24 will not help you too much with purchase. I have long story to tell about purchasing fake watch from private seller trough Chrono. it has been 3 months and I dont have watch and I dont have my money back yet. Be aware!!!
So far I've had no issues with either platforms but I kinda know a fishy listing when I see it 🧐
Ebay, Chrono24 and such are whoever they are. But what about Catawiki? What is the "legitimacy" of that particular website?
I had a comical experience once, not online though. I purchased a new Rolex from an AD years ago. About 6 years later I went to a different AD to have it sent off for service. That AD claimed my watch was fake. Didn't matter that I still had paperwork and that the AD I purchased it from verified the sale, that AD that I went to to get it serviced still insisted it was fake 😂
In case it's already come up, then I apologize for the repeat, but when dealing with vintage watches that had markings painted in radium, depending on the brand, especially Rolex, bring a Geiger counter with you. If the dial is legit, it will set the meter off. If it's fake, or has been restored, it won't. It's the one aspect that can't be faked on vintage watches, pre-1960.
That Citizen looks like a Rado and 50's Omega had a Japanese baby out of wedlock
I wondred if you kept that watch 🙂
Trusted dealers with good feedback are usually the way to go, but regardless of the seller - doing your research and asking the right questions is crucial. I try to buy within my country (US), but if it’s an international seller, always be aware of import costs and customs procedure. Look up the dealer or store and read reviews.
If I go the private seller route for a good deal, I always follow my gut and buy from a US based seller. If they don’t opt in for the escrow service, or they dodge my questions, I’m out. A legit seller will never refuse to provide additional info or pictures. Make clear terms, read the contract, and document everything from negotiations to shipping and unboxing.
I haven’t had any bad experiences yet, but I work in sales and have a good feel for these things. Trust the process and never be afraid to lose a deal if something feels off. If you’re more uneasy than excited, back out. There’s always another watch, but you can’t always get your money back.
I'd love to buy a watch from the Time Teller Shop, but there are only 4 options to choose from...everything else is sold...will you be showing more availability soon?
Yes! We’ve been restocking almost every single week!
I just need to find a good SKX 007...
Seriously thank you for making this. 👊
I have roughly around seventy watches, do these dealers purchase watches in bulk?
Email info@thetimetellershop.com
I did, thank you!
I've yet to receive a reply, how fast are the responses via email
Japan never being sorry buying from there
I’ve bought one dud seiko skx 009 from Japan. Was on eBay, basically it came in an envelope, had bubble wrap, but the won’t come out, so I can’t change it. Hopefully I can get it fixed soon! I’ve also bought 2 other seikos from Japan, both amazing and in perfect condition!
Come-in
Hey there, love your channel and watch all the time. I can’t help though wondering about the statement that you are one of the biggest vintage watches dealers in the country. It’s sort of a vague statement. Are you in the top 30 or 100 or what? The video seems to be for the watch noob and this kind of thing is, or can be, misleading. I really don’t know where one would go to verify info like this. Are you talking dollars or numbers of units. Anyway you seem to me to be one of the nicest dealers so keep up the good work.
Great question, I’ll (hopefully) offer some clarity on this:
My website is verifiably in the top 3% of all stores hosted by Shopify. While I won’t go into sales data here, the amount of units we sell seems to be at a much, much higher volume than other vintage dealers- and that’s all thanks to my incredible support system, which includes you!! 🫵❤️
I spotted a fake Breitling Navitimer Fighters Special on chrono24….they took it down…but sheesh 😮
There are some good fakes but they misspelled Messerschmitt!
Yikes, was it from a Japanese or Singaporean store
@@seanthomxx2694 I think it was a seller in Italy . They not have even known themselves?
I think it’s sad we live in a world that you have to explain, exception to the rule.
Recently seen quite a few fake Jaeger LeCoultre from an Indian seller on eBay. I reported them all. The first one they took down and then they refused to take any more action on the other ones I reported. The seller is still active with all his fakes. eBay needs to be held accountable for facilitating these scams and not taking action even after you report it. That's just shameless behavior and a lack of business ethics.
Not to mention all the Frankenseiko watches from India!
@@RandyWanat Yes, but those sell for $25 bucks. They sell the fake JLCs for $300 and they are the exact same shit as the Seikos with fantasy dials, but 300 bucks is a whole different ballgame.
eBay was just like that 20 years ago. At the time they had a saying of something like "the community runs on trust ". In reality eBay is not a retailer and are not responsible, they are only a avenue. But they have been known to help in high profile cases.
Exceptions prove the rule.
I buy a lot from Ebay, but I have noticed when it comes to the items from Japan, I will see the exact same item, same pictures, several times, mostly with different prices. It seems kind of fishy, unless it's a thing over there, that sellers have multiple accounts.
I think some use stock photos. I use C24 and got 2 watches and a great price from Japan
I've seen this aswell especially when you see the same watch with different prices. Sometimes 3 of 4 different listings just with the pictures 📷 in different order but I have to admit I've had no issues with my Ebay purchases so far
Possibly, but these were vintage pieces.
I totally agree! sometimes they will even use same pictures trough different seller names.
the good thing is that they will usually take the watch - back and give your money back.
They are all different resellers. Japan is a very convoluted place to do anything, including buy watches. You can pay different prices depending on how "in the know" you are. These eBay listings are put up by people who will source a watch listed for sale locally. They will then list it on eBay for a higher price. If someone buys it on eBay, they simply head over to the Japanese dealer and purchase the watch for the lower price. The difference is their profit. If nobody purchases their eBay listing, they are only out the time to list on eBay. There are multiple listings of the same watch because there are a number of people doing this. The only downside as the buyer purchasing one of these eBay listings is that you're paying a higher price. The watch you get is most likely legit.
i will never buy any shit over $5000+ and not see it. Only a moron would do that.....but you do have lots of people in line paying over MSRP for Production Rolexs...
I'm one of those morons that routinely buy sight unseen for many times that price. Never had any issues. I source some great deals and now have a watch collection worth far more than I paid. If you only buy watches that you can see in person, you're limiting yourself on the deals that you can find. But to each their own.
@@realalexmackenzie thats ok....i dont have the pain to hunt down my money when something goes wrong.
I've bought two watches through Chrono 24 and sold another without any issues. They facilitate a deal for commission. Just do not expect any customer service. I mailed them a basic question on something and never even had the courtesy of a reply, which as a former Marketing Director is something I simply would not tolerate. Given this is a well-watched (😉) channel, that is quite a negative they can have back as tit for poor tat. Then again and let's face it, crap customer service is something we've all come to expect on the internet.
Bought watches through both chrono24 & eBay, eBay are much better, avoid chrono24 at at all costs
This was a waste of time
