Hartnell loved the part. He was asked to come back for Three Doctors he jumped at the chance to come back. His wife had to tell them that even though he wanted to come back, his health wouldn’t let him really do it. That’s why his scene was filmed off location. I think he’d be very happy that his presence is kept alive and the legacy of the First Doctor is far from forgotten.
@@Heyhey_1792 kinda, he played William Hartnell in a biopic made to celebrate the shows 50th and part of the biopic had Hartnell as he was retiring seeing a vision of Smith to make him realise the show would carry on without him for years to come
I must admit this scene was quite a surprise. I knew David was coming back for the 60th anniversary and maybe a potential regeneration scene which we know has come to pass but I never expected other Doctors to be involved; they really kept this a secret that somehow managed to not leak how things like this should be kept. 💜☺️
Just saw this bit my chap showed me and I asked, "Is that the guy who played Hartnell in the Adventure in Space and Time Movie?" He looks it up and... it IS! I was SO happily touched! ♥
I think it's 5 & 6. If you go frame-by-frame the hair is short like Davison & Baker's. I think the person who put the video together cut out a tiny bit of the "goodluck" part
See DC THIS is how you honour legacy performers by hiring talented actors to replace them and continue their legacy without resurrecting their corpses using creepy CGI.
so why no Tom (ok I know he's like 90something), no Chris (well actually I know there's a bit of a dingdong). but seriously no Matt smith? no Peter Capaldi?
Tom Baker was asked but he apparently was not available. Unknown the reason why but it should be noted all his recent Big Finish releases were recorded years ago in advance, so it doesn't appear he's too active these days. It's also public that he hated working on the 50th Anniversary because no one except Matt Smith went out of their way to show him love and recognition. Christopher Eccleston is a notoriously difficult ask, Matt Smith is a bit busy with House of the Dragon for a small cameo and too mainstream of an actor for his movements to not be noticed and leaked, and Capaldi has stated that he's done with Doctor Who for now. Honestly it's for the best to have just focused on the group of Bradley, Davison, Colin Baker, McCoy, and McGann. It was a special moment for fans of their Big Finish work and to see these Doctors who aren't as celebrated by the mainstream have their moment of recognition and honor.

It's not the Doctor's real name, but because they don't have a name, it's just 'The Doctor', many people say the name of the show when they meet the Doctor.
I like this portrayal of the 1st Doctor, but hearing him praise 13 just kinda screws with me, considering all the backlash that 13 has garnered for being poorly characterised
They couldn't have gotten the character more wrong. Compare this to his meeting with Doctors 2 and 3 in "The Three Doctors". He was acerbic and dismissive of them.
Sorry but i dont get it.... Chinballs has basically ruined all the history of dr who with the timeless child crap.... How dare he bring historic drs into it when he has pissed all over them by saying william hartnell isnt the first cause of the timeless child crap....im so Glad chinballs has gone and dr karen as well.... Hopefully now we can get back to stprys of a mad man in a box not be lectured to about global warming or the alphabet community or black rights ( rosa parks episode)
this has no connection to the timeless child retcon though? From what I understood watching this scene, this is basically limbo/purgatory during regeneration and that previous incarnations of the Doctor still exist via their consciousness.
I genuinely think William Hartnell would be proud to have David Bradley holding his torch for him. He does such a marvellous job ❤

This is the second time David Bradley’s 1st Doctor appeared in a regeneration story. He’s always welcomed though.
And both regen's involved Jodie on one end
I love his smile 🙂
Bradley was there when she was born and was there when she died
I thought he appeared in Smith’s run?

I love how at the end he told her "good luck doctor" just like he told the 12th doctor before he regenerated
I love it when David Bradley arrives as if he is the *William Hartnell that never left us.*
It feels quite fitting that David Bradley appeared in both Jodie’s first and last episodes.
first?
@@gromitx1682 yeah. Twice Upon a Time.
He's really killed it this time around. His expressions and timing evoke Hartnell's Doctor to a tee.

Even if they couldn't bring back 5,6,7 and 8, I would've been fine with him being the consciousness on his own.
i really wanna see more of 8
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! David Bradley is such a great 1st doctor
He's way more like the 1st Doctor here than in Twice Upon a Time.
Wig seems better and tbf, Chibnal didn’t make him a comedy character lol
Even in the afterlife (or whatever this is) he is still holding his collar 🤣
Lazy acting
@@thefakemaker You could do better? Could any of us? David Bradley is an ACTOR who has brought back Hartnell's doctor, that is a tough task.

@Louis of Rivea exactly 💯
Finished threatening to smack Bill's bottom.
i'm glad they are getting so much out of david bradley while they still can.

At least this version doesn’t have the personality he had in twice upon a time
It's nice to see they didn't continue Moffat's weird decision to portray the First Doctor as a sexist old fuddy duddy.
That was my favorite part of that episode though! Moffat is the best!
Honestly if it was just the “smacked bottom” line I would’ve been fine with it
His mannerisms were closer to William Hartnell than ever. Wonderful to see.
Yes thank you! He is the 1st Doctor!
This is a godsend for edits
I definitely feel like Bradley’s mannerisms are more similar to the first doctor in this compared to twice upon a time
I consider him to be Doctor #1, version 3.0 :)
what happened to his eyes at the end?
That last frame at the end of the video is a 'deepfake' with hartnell face? :)

Ugh. Take that bigotry and shove it.
