True, he's wearing a suit and holding a brief case(or something), but it's reasonable to assume he doesn't know what a hair dryer is and mistook it for and actual weapon of unknown design and function.

I was hoping with the new (and much better) Chibnall Sontaran design, we'd get something similar with the Silurians. Nope, they're just a joke now like the Sontarans have been for the past 15 years.

I've always assumed the locked door in hotel rooms is the connecting door to the next room; they unlock when two parties rent two adjacent rooms at the same time and ask specifically to allow contact between the them (which I've actually seen done). Otherwise, yes, it's locked. And can still be used for timey-wimey purposes, of course....
