I absolutely love my Appartamento, use it every morning. Turn it on 20-30 minutes before using it makes a huge difference. I have it paired with a Baratza Sette 270wi grinder, which I think is phenomenal, despite a more "consumer" appliance appearance. Relentlessly reliable and consistent, fluffy grinds, no retention, lightning fast and weighed for me. As beautiful as the new Rocket grinders are, I can't imagine going back to manually weighing each grind again.
I was surprised that Gail said to get an authorized service center to get it descaled. Have you done this or do you descale yourself?
Jay G. I haven’t descaled it at all yet, but I’m due. The Rocket manual says to use a small amount of espresso cleaning detergent to the blind basket, and dissolve it in hot water and then insert it into the group head and turn the brew lever on/off for about 10 seconds. I bought some detergent and was going to do that soon, but I’m not sure that counts as properly descaling.
distopiatv I have the same. I really like it but wish it didn’t throw grinds everywhere quite so much. But I think it’s just a necessary evil. I need a custom cut mat for beneath the 270wi :p
@@distopiatv that is just your basic cleaning that you are describing. You should do that about every week! Descaling is a chemical that goes into the water and then sits there for awhile. And then you rinse it clean several times.
Hi! Which grinder setting are you using on your Sette? Thanks!
Thank you, Gail. You are a good person.
Help, please! My shots are super quick, ranging from 12-17 seconds and I’ve never achieved crema. The shots always come out as a strong americano, even when I have had my coffee pre ground at a shop. I was previously using a grinder that took forever to grind finely, and did not reinvest. Any suggestions would be so helpful! Thanks in advance!
After 30 minute warm up, I do a cooling flush. Just enough to get rid of the flash boiling water out of the group. Then I brew. No need to flush for subsequent shots. Been getting really good drinks out of mine
Hello Gail , how can we adjust the pressure on a rocket ? As I noticed that the it's showing me 12 par when I'm marking a shot and the recommended is 9
Do you recommend the Rocket Espresso Water Reservoir Filter?
This woman is like my teacher of chemical ai high school! I like it ))
I just bought nera apartamento and faustino grinder, is that a good choice i made? Ty
Gail, you're so cool!
Gail I can listen to you while you're reading the phone book 👌
Want one badly!
I just open my new Appartamento and the problem is water flow running so tiny. Is there any option I can do without sending back my rocket?
Hi Seattle Coffee Gear! I have just bought this following your brilliant review. I previously had another espresso machine (Expobar). I was able to create nicely textured milk with my old machine but really struggling with the Rocket. It steams too fast! Any tips? 🚀.. 😃
We will miss you gail

Which is the best grinder for the apartmento?
How long will a machine like this run with normal maintenance when you use it for 2 cups a day?
Hi Gail, thank you for the useful video! Thanks to you I purchased the rocket coffee machine last week and I’m very happy about it. Would you use the chemicals every day for the backflushing? So far I’ve backflushed without it and I’m planning to use the chemicals once this weekend. What would you recommend?
Sorry I know I'm not Gail, but backflush frequency has to do with shot frequency. I personally make 1-2 shots a day and back flush about every two weeks. Hope that helps! From what I've heard, in a cafe environment, you should backflush daily. I also descale 3-4 times a year. I'm not sure how descaling at home is different from having a professional do it...
I have been thinking about purchasing this machine, i owned a breville and after only a year it stopped working.. hows the reliability with these machines?
which breville you have? barista express?
Please elaborate more on professionally descaled. What will a professional do, that I can not do at home?
Gail’s the Best !
Yo Gail - I hope you're enjoying retirement. Boy, do I miss your videos. Rock on, Gail!
What about cooling flushes Gail?
Howard Smith Yeah, waited for that one too. H/X machines and flushing procedures, that's a biggie!
If I let my HX (Heat Exchanger) machine warm-up for 20 minutes, I don't need any cooling flush. I used to let it warm-up for 30 minutes, and definitely DID need a cooling flush (maybe 8-12 seconds)...but 20min seems to be the "sweet spot for MY (others may vary) machine as 20min is long enough to warm up the machine & its E61 group-head but not overheat the brewing water in the HX's boiler.
Of course, a DB (Double Boiler) machine needs no cooling flush, but MAY need a short warming flush.

My equipment:
Vibiemme (aka: VBM) Domobar Super HX Switchable Manual Rotary semi-automatic espresso machine.
Mazzer Electronic Type A grinder.
I never flush with my Rocket Appartamento. Ideally, as far as I'm concerned, I find that the shots are best when the machine has warmed up 30 or more. Sometimes I leave it on for a good part of the morning. And when I make a coffee, I don't flush, my coffees are always excellent.
@@escapadoenophileetcafeolog2522 At 30 minutes, I get steam. No way to make espresso using steam, plus the brewing "water" immediately AFTER the steam is let out is WAY too hot. Plain & simple, HX machines need to be flushed (aka: "water dance") if let sitting too long, that's their nature.
Still, the end result is TASTE, so even if someone is making espresso "wrong" (as "experts" will tell people) if they LIKE the result of "doing it wrong" then that's the Bottom Line, regardless of what the "experts" say. It always has been. ;-)
After all, the "experts" aren't the ones drinking the espresso (or Latte, or Cappuccino, Macchiato, etc.), the person MAKING the espresso is drinking it, so he/she makes the call.
Happy Espresso-ing, HOWEVER you do it.

how often do you get it professional de-scaled and is there a list of recommended places for those of us that do not live in Seattle?
I don't understand why she has recommended getting it professionally descaled, it's really easy to do. I simply followed whole latte loves de-scale video, easy!
Depending on your water its recommended to have it descaled every 3 to 5 years. Any local repair shop should be able to descale an E61 group machine properly. The reason its not recommended to descale it at home is because if you leave a strong descaling solution in these machines too long it will react with the brass and heating element. That over time, if not done correctly can ground out your heating element. There is also the other factor, if you descale with vinegar (which is not recommended) it will stick around in your machine for a long time and will change the taste of your coffee, mostly for the worst. If you are careful and block out an hour or so to descale and flush it properly it should be fine.
Would there be any reason to NOT use the flow control device with the appartamento?
Which grinder is an affordable pair with Appartmento?
Buy the Baratza Sette 30. Then you can go to Baratza's website and buy the micro adjuster to replace the original one on the sette 30.
Why can’t I descale it myself?
we miss Gail !
I've owned the Rocket Appartamento for almost two years. I am completely satisfied with it. At first it came with a Eureka Mignon grinder (which I finally took to the office where I also have an espresso machine); for more than a year now it has been a fantastic couple with the Niche Zero (great grinder). Note the power of the steam. As for having an E61 group with an exchanger, I don't see much point in spending more money. As for the 1-cup filter, the convex 8-10g IMS is top.

Does anyone in USA sell the Niche Zero grinder?
@@mikhailarey1196 I don't know, I'm in France
When you heat the Appartamento for 20-30 minutes do you kerep the Portafilter in place already? If I do this, it's wet inside when I grind my beans into it. Not sure if this is a problem other then getting water drops on my Faustino grinder
Would the Portafilter be too cvold if you only put it in place with coffee in it when you get your shots?
I bought this machine little over a year ago and still can’t pull good shots. Everything is so bitter.
