    Nice review! I'm not understanding how its possible to do pre-infusion with no plumbed water line. What causes the pressure to do the pre-infusion if the pump is not on?

    • @ozespresso
      @ozespresso  2 года назад +1

      Hello Dave, Thank you for the positive feedback.
      That is a very good questions. The E61 group head has a thermalsiphon system that circulate hot and cold water. That is how the group head is getting hot as it had hot water constantly flowing through it. When you lift the lever up. it allow the water through as they flow. The E61 group was invented by Fama in 1961 and it is used till this day. Smart idea... Also, there are different ways to pre-infuse without a pump like in single boiler lever machines, La Pavoni Europiccola / Olympia Cremina and also in dual boiler machines with a saturated boiler like the La Marzocco GS3. I will recommend reading more about this on Wiki.
      Hope this answers your question! -Y

      This machine has the standard E61 group head with the mechanical pressure release valve. To answer this question properly will require a lot of details as but I can summarize it in a few words I would say, "You get what you pay for" meaning as you go up in price the equipment, in most cases, is better.

    • @ozespresso

      It really depends on the machine. ECM made these build well back in the day but it is not only the boiler but also the electrical system. Take a look inside and see if everything looks normal. Did you find that when you first started using the Appartamento that it had a hot metal odor and taste from through the group head and steam wand? I've had mine for about 3 weeks now and unless i run a lot of water through the group or wand before use, there is this almost "campfire" taste that comes through. I spoke with a "technician" and they said this is residue from the manufacturing process and that I should continue to run water through it and it will dissipate. Did you experience any of this?

    Hi Yossi, great video for people who are navigating and binging videos before buying ;-) I have one question about brew pressure. Unfortunately the Rocket doesn't have a dedicated gauge to read the brew pressure. However I've seen another video of some one adding a pressure gauge to the E61 brew head. When he pulled the lever to initiate the pump with a blind basket in the portafilter holder, they gauge indicated 12bars of brew pressure. To my knowledge 12 bars is not the desired pressure to brew. Do you have an explanation why that pressure is 12 bars in the group head. And if so, is it advised to turn down the pressure on the OPV? Thanks and best regards, Vincent

    • @ozespresso
      @ozespresso  3 года назад +2

      Thank you, this is a good question. This model is equipped with a vibratory pump with a default setting of 15 bars, so when it's on, it goes full force. Yes, you can make an adjustment to the OPV to open at say 9.5 bars but I think that it works a bit differently and I will do my best to explain.
      First, it makes sense that if you use a blank basket, then it will go up to 12-15 bars as it supposed to do that, probably the OPV opens at 12.
      Nose, because the coffee bed is not "blank" then some of the initial pressure might be high but once it starts brewing the pressure will go down to about 9 bars. It is not as accurate as a rotary pump where you can adjust the pressure but it is very similar to the default in a lot of other machines with a gauge, you just don't see it. Does this make sense?
      I think that you are up to the challenge and feel confident in your skill level, you should experiment with the machine and learn more about how to brew the best shots with it.
      I hope this helps!
      -Y

    • @vincentie
      @vincentie 3 года назад +1

      @@ozespresso Thanks so much for your detailed answer and it does make sense to me. So basically the difference between the vibratory pump and a rotory pump is that with the rotary pump you can modify the pump pressure and you can't with the vibratory pump which has just one setting. When I initially saw the video it didn't make sense to me why you would immediately have to dial down the OPV pressure. I still believe that when these machines come from the production line, the basic manufacturer setting would do the trick for the majority of the users. Obviously when using the machine for quite some time you can try to tweak the settings a little if you did all the other variables first. Thanks again!

    I just received my Appartamento and the light turns green but within about a minute it starts to flash three times and pause and repeat. What is this indicating? I am using well water with lots of minerals so it should detect the full tank. I have the feeling the heat exchanger isn't pulling in any water and is tripping an overheat sensor and giving me the error code. Should the water in the tank drop when it is first initiated? Why not spend a few hundred more and get a PID machine like Profitec Pro 500? Has so many more features. PID is game changer and brew pressure adjustability is so easy too without taking machine apart. Appartamento looks nice and is a good machine but features are outdated IMO.

      Agree, it's all about personal preference. Yes, Profitec is good but it has it's flaws. For instance, the pro500 uses parts that are only available through whole latte love, which could be challenging for some folks that are not in the US and have limited stock. With Rocket, you can use it in more places and it is more of a standard repair process.
