I fully understand Hook carved a path all his own on bass & they were very popular. To me ( & it is just a personal point of view ) i simply dont get it. To me it just sounds like a really bad 6th form band -- it's rhythmically so uninteresting & just doesn't move me.
But its just art and we cant all like the same things. ( at the time of joy division i was only 11 and trying to learn bass to the 1st two PIL albums & Handsworth Revolution by Steel Pulse a very very different approach to bass line construction.
