I feel like she should have highlighted the fact that she partly did so well bc she’s an ex-pro cyclist. People might think it’s normal to be able to do this intensity this quickly, not realizing they will likely get hurt. It’s also not normal for most to be able to do such a fast time in their first marathon

The whole thing is staged for views and likes. Anyone who has ever ran a marathon will tell you that you don't go from couch potato to marathon runner in ten weeks with under 8 minute mile pace. Its not just strength and mental toughness. The bones and joints need time to strengthen before the body can push that hard and it takes time - lots of time. The only thing a rookie will accomplish doing this is a stress fracture and shin splints.

    • @barefootbeachrunner9498

      Definately
My marathon pb is still super slow at 4:03 my 1/2 mara pb is 1:44 and ive done quite a few my first marathon as an adult was after a 16 week training program put together for me by an former elite runner and that was after a few years of 10 k and 1/2 marathon trail runs

Try loosing 30 lbs or try having at least a personal training 3 days a week for a month. You only get a small taste of what shes having. So i APPLAUD her. Don’t feel bad if you want to quit while running! I come from a family of runners, I love to run half marathons with my dad, and when I’m 16 I want to run a full. My mom loves to run full marathons and has dreamt to run the Boston Marathon. It took her three years to qualify, starting off amateur with 5K. After going through overtraining, not safe coaches, mental breakdowns on runs and races, even dropping out of races she was trying to qualify for, she qualified. After that, I learned it’s ok to have breakdowns, because that is what pushes you to move forward. I hope you read this! Thx!

@@Scurvywormstudios Unless you have good fitness there's zero chance the average person (even above average person) could even walk 26.2 miles let alone run it.
The people that do a marathon with zero training are usually already in ok shape and sometimes in phenomenal shape. Just because they didn't specifically train for endurance running doesn't mean that a lot of their prior training can't carry over. Most of the people in my small work group couldn't even run for a solid mile until they trained for few weeks. These weren't overweight people either, but they were pretty average levels of fitness. After 6 months or so they could easily do 10k races and probably at that point some of them may have been able to do a marathon on a whim. Even then that's unlikely.

I honestly believe anyone can do a marathon. I’m so proud of Michelle for completing one and even doing so with an amazing race time (3 hours is really fast).
I’ve completed 7 LA Marathons by jogging and fast walking and I am a REALLY slow runner. My PR is 6 hours. It really depends on your mindset since “average” people tend to finish around 5-7 hours. Some just speed walk the whole thing and hit 7 hours.
So if you’re considering doing the marathon but think it’s too difficult, it’s not. The race itself is painful if you’re not used to that type of pain but it is possible. The feeling you get when you finish the race is what pushes me to participate every year. 🙌🏼

That PR or personal best of 6 hours is OK for a normal runner, I am training to run all the way a 5k race, I have already done it by walking/jogging in 41 minutes, but to qualify I must RUN it all the way, OK if I run/jog slowly I might do in in about 38 minutes. Your time of 6 hours for that marathon corresponds to 42m 43seconds for a 5k, or 3 hours for a half marathon, on average as you say for anyone doing a full distance marathon
I have no intention of running a half or full marathon but MIGHT consider doing a 10k IF I get through this 5k training program

In other words: this week your goal is to run a mile in under 10. Next week your goal is to run a mile in under 9 mins 55 seconds. Or to run 1 and a half miles and don't time yourself, just try to go further.
Competing against other people before you've even gotten started is a great way to feel defeated and give up.
      You got this
      Try to enjoy it.
