in most sports the people watching dont usually play them. like football, basketball, mma, etc. they actually enjoywatching the game more than playing it and so they know the players. running is a rare one where most of the people running dont watch related sports cause they do it just to be healthy and improving themselves, but actually find it quite boring. so of course most people interested in the topic are not gonna know who she is, therefore the title. for example Im glad I watched the video, but if it was just her name I wouldnt have clicked. im just a simple mortal that runs 5km every other day

I only got into a runners high one time since I’ve been running! I zoned out and ended up running 12 miles and my sister had to come pick me up at the end lol
I feel ya! I once started running and was so stressed that I didn't stop for 14 miles. I now carry a $20 with me everytime I run so that I can at least hail a cab to bring me back to my car. LOL
My advice on water... ALWAYS carry with you on training runs... makes it feel easy by comparison in races when you don't have that weight to carry.....
I know that nipple question sounded a bit weird, but I had to stop a marathon once cause it was so painful that is was bleeding. So I guess it's kinda a serious thing.
On the “running machine” tweet. I personally find it so much easier to run outside than to run on a treadmill (when weather is nice). Not only is it less boring but I go so much faster and it doesn’t seem to hurt as much (more maybe it’s just easier to ignore lol)
When I was a beginner training for the Tokyo marathon I was in the middle of a deployment (on an aircraft carrier) so using a running machine was not only my only choice but was a great way to learn about what kind of pace I can handle/need to be at!

I think the thing with minimalist shoes is, padding is useful when running long distance over hard pavement because it's not a natural surface. With training and adaptation, minimalist shoes really shine best when running on dirt/sand/grass in my opinion. Long distance is harsh on the feet on concrete without padding.

I had run throughout my (Army) life just never anything more than 5-6 on a regular basis and one or two 10.milers. After the first one I swore I'd never do it again. Since then I've run many half marathons and another 1.5 full marathons. Last one I didn't finish because I started the race sick and temperatures were not conducive. Done many, many, many over 10 mile runs.

I ran a marathon a couple months ago - my first - and I had almost zero training. At the end, I actually thought I broke my foot. Do NOT think you can do it without extensive training.
With regards to the hydration question, when I was a runner in high school, we used to have straps that could go around our waterbottles and sort of holster them to our hands while we ran so that we didn't drop them. It only works with Gatorade bottles or ones that require you to squeeze them when you take a sip, so don't go trying it with a CamelBak. That could also be a helpful option for anyone in or getting into distance running.

Met Des at the Houston Marathon 2022. Her personality is great, similar to her video here. A Champion but able to speak with average joes like myself and is genuine in her interaction.
its so funny because i grew up as a dancer and wed go through so many pairs of pointe shoes leading up to big events and yet somehow ive forgotten that runners experience the same issue... my whole life ive tried to not be biased and i keep finding little holes that ive missed!
Man, I must suck. I've been running for 3 years and I've done 2 marathons, but I've never heard of Des Linden. Of course, I rarely watch TV and haven't done well at following any well known runners. But I thought she was great. Very knowledgeable, concise, and helpful. Great stuff.
I remember how I felt after I ran a marathon. My muscles were quite sore for five days. I felt that cardiovascularly I wasn't 100% for two weeks, interesting she said she takes two weeks off.
I run 50 miles a week and I run at least half of those 50 alone, and never with music. I use running as mediation, and I recommend that more people try that out in this age of technology
I recently ran a marathon with my brother. We stuck together for the whole race. If possible, I highly recommend training and running with a friend. It makes for an enjoyable experience both in training and races! Oh yeah, and I also made a video about it if you're into watching middle-of-the-pack marathon experiences :) Have a nice day :)

Planing to do my first marathon in Feb. This video helped to plan and motivate me. Wish me luck now.
I run 50 miles a week and I run at least half of those 50 alone, and never with music. I use running as mediation, and I recommend that more people try that out in this age of technology
Jacob Anteau i do the same, no music whatsoever, just me and the sound of nature (And my heavy breathing) - its very relaxing actually
i agree, i use to do with music but after that i stop doing it and i feel so much better running and thinking and reflecting
I run but not that much because if you run too much you lose muscle mass. I also do it without music due to my religion.
@@Slizzyz What religion causes you to not listen to music while running? I'm unfamiliar with any like that.
Dan E In Islam you are not allowed to listen to most music unless it has something to do with the religion or it is clean.

And yes, music and exploring the outdoors makes the 20 mile+ long runs fun.
I recently ran a marathon with my brother. We stuck together for the whole race. If possible, I highly recommend training and running with a friend. It makes for an enjoyable experience both in training and races!
