They forced us to pay a subscription to play the game, and they still made it p2p instead of paying money to be server based. It was a really shameful decision.

I get frustrated when people defend it since it's cheaper than PS/Xbox. But at least you know you're going to have a much better experience there. I think they make an estimated $500M+ a year on NSO subscriptions alone so it's sad they can't reinvest even just a portion of that.

And said game probably had a budget of less than 75 million likely a lot less. Just because a company is worth a billion dollars doesn’t mean a billion dollars or even a quarter of that is going into every thing they make.
@rexthewolf3149 no game from Nintendo that is one of there heavy hitters has a 70 million dollar budget. And even then, the servers are from Nintendo directly not from the splatoon budget
@@mrmelonman2893 and even then consider Nintendos hardware is ten years behind, their server’s infrastructure is probably the same. Keep in mind Battlefield 4 from 2013 had the option to run on either 30 or 60hz servers.

I was once killed by an S-Blast shot that was fired 30 seconds prior to it actually killing me. Easily the most "WHAT WAS THAT" moment I've had in the game.
How does that even happen. Like it doesnt even make sense to have a 30 second delay 😭

I have an old clip of a weird flingza crushing me after i have already splatted them and they have spawned
And also one time everyone expect me and one opponent dc:d, we just squid partied after that.

There’s like 20 seconds between a DC and everyone disconnecting that you either speedrun the objective or squid bag

or you splat them on your screen and their ghost lingers and kills you anyway
Even with a fast LAN connection, I still get communication errors. Especially annoying in anarchy series or X battle, where it awards me a loss and a 10 minute ban for something that wasn’t my fault.
In the friday vs saturday vs sunday splatfest, there was this one game where the one tetra player was lagging SO FREAKING MUCH. I got killed by him and somehow he got killed too, and when he respawned he immediately used a reefslider (that he somehow had charged) that took him from spawn, all the way to mid, without exploding. Then i was able to "splat" him, but before that, he randomly just started flying and stayed in the air for like 3 seconds, and disconnected.

If I had to give a reason why I quit this game for a long while, it's because of the shitty fucking netcode, I got so tilted by disconnecting after a match that I WON fair and square, and it counted against me.
That’s so real. I can’t count how many rm games I’ve played that ended in the whole thing getting nuked as the final checkpoint was broken. Like we won and then I get kicked and blamed for it; so unfair!
I love how in 2024 I can get matched with 7 japanese people in a lobby while being in latin america and get killed by seemingly nothing, very functional game
I love it when I dodge roll behind cover and then get splatted anyway by an Eliter that landed a shot where I was over half a second ago.

The fact that hammer would be good if the spinny thing at 3:18 was real is hilarious to me. Like legitimately, you wouldn't die and you'd be a devastating threat.

The saddest part about this is that once you get disconnected from a laggy match like that, the game blames YOU for having bad internet and assigns you a lose...
they just one day charged us for this and did nothing about this

Yeah, I'm old, been playing muilti-player FPS since dial-up. Peer-to-peer was the best option 15-20 years ago. There should be no need for it now. Switch 2/Splatoon 4 better be using dedicated servers.

I had a match once in TC where the tower refused to move for at least 15 seconds during overtime when my team was just a few points away from winning. We lost while I never left the tower. So I reviewed the replay- *apparently* someone on the enemy team was right next to me the whole time contesting it, and we were both standing around unable to see or interact with each other. Guaranteed loss. Felt *lovely*

It really feels like the netcode is the biggest problem with the game. That and atrocious matchmaking make the game feel almost unplayable, and I can only imagine do a lot to turn people away from playing
We pay $20 a year for this. I love the game but the lag makes it almost unplayable.

During the last splatfest,3 hours were left in it so I was hoping for an 100X battle...I received 24 disconnects in total and got a very lucky 70 minute ban at the end and was only able to do 1 match
The lag is terrible on the Japanese servers, but the lag is terrible overseas as well.
I've been playing splatoon 1 a fair bit the last few days and omg it feels so much better to play than in 3. Played some Splat 3 with friends last night and had to stop because it felt unplayable

Are there just occasionally inklings and octolings vanishing into thin air and being erratically flung around all over the place?
One time I threw 2 burst bombs in an aero sprays face and got a direct blast shot, and never got the kill the whole game, but the aero spray killed me every time it should have been the other way around.

Ive had so many times where the match starts without me being off the start screen, it's insane actually
I’ve had many problems with the internet connection and players teleporting in a short distance but I’ve never seen anything this bad 😮
I remember one time I lost an anarchy series to lag in S+. I had splatted all of the opposing team members, and then the rainmaker counter started moving ahead of where the rainmaker actually was, and we lost when we couldn't do anything about it.
craziest lobby nuke ive ever had happen that ive survived (ive survived most since i got an Ethernet cord) was the entire enemy team and 2 of my teammates disconnecting but i feel like this is more common then i realize me and my one surviving teammate just spammed booyah and painted the map on rainmaker for the next 4 minutes
when i get lag and kill the enemy first they end up killing me a second later even though they’re literally dead, then i see their character phasing in and out of the spawn box lol

I think we all got pranked. There is a new mode in S3, laggy mode and we're all playing it without being aware of it.
Had a match in Robo Ramen where someone I splatted respawned like normal, but then started flying up and away like a Duck tales moon theme meme.

Yesterday I tried playing the Game and after 3 consecutive Disconnects less than 30s into the Matches I thought 'Screw It' and went to Bed.
Ive had that one where the game started before it even showed me the players and it messed me up the ENTIRE game.

When you're disconnected and you have to wait 10min ban + so the anarchy game is counted as a lose ☠️☠️☠️☠️

7:22 onwards. I had that same experience happen during... I think my first two weeks of playing, give or take. It was with a roller against me while I was jumping away.
And, yeah, to all the people bringing up the paid subscription thing, this is just a mess.
I assume at least part of it is the fact that we're running a fast paced 4v4 shooter, where the ground is constantly changing (inking), running the entire thing on a 2015 era mobile CPU that is less powerful than most people's smartphones. Then making it even worse by having one of those same CPUs also act as a bloody server WHILE PLAYING THE MATCH. There's an excellent reason that most servers do nothing except serve.
Notice how over half the clips have a sloshing machine in them? I swear to god that's has been the laggiest weapon in the game since neo machine came out.

I feel like for the majority of the time I play, it works just fine. I can certainly remember some crazy desyncs and lag, but it doesn't feel especially bad or common compared to other online games I play.
That said, I do remember this one really funny moment I had where I was running from a kraken, used a kraken of my own and then killed them when their kraken ran out. Didn't get a splat message, and a few moments later I randomly die _while still in kraken form_ saying the other kraken got me. Turns out you're not invincible lol (got a communication error a few seconds later)
There's part of this that keeps bothering me, and it's something that shouldn't be a problem otherwise. Don't get me wrong, this is still better than the alternatives, but
I keep thinking about client-side hit detection, and I frankly should not HAVE to keep thinking about it. As long as I hit a player on my screen, it sends the signal to all other consoles which says "this player is now dead." And it should be that way, it's more fair to all players. If you see an enemy and hit them before they hit you, you *should* win that fight. However, when coupled with insane lag, you can die before you even see an enemy, or you can think you killed an enemy but actually they're halfway across the map, and they hit you first. You just didn't get to see it happen. But you're dead anyway.
It also bothers me a bit that the very slight latency, even in really solid games, means an enemy could be facing the opposite direction on my screen, but have already turned on theirs, and while they still appear to be facing 180° away from me, they can flick and take me out while I think they just aren't looking, and are therefore safe (or at least not immediately deadly) to approach. And I can't just spend the entire game playing it safe and slow, I'm a frontliner or midrange in every game. I need to be out near the front taking fights, distracting enemies, scouting, putting down a lot of paint for my team, etc., and if I just choose to slow down, choose to be overly cautious all the time, I'll be a bad teammate. When you're in those X battles, you can't afford to slow down or ease up because of a "what if?" The enemy will just take the opportunity to move in on you when you're at a clear disadvantage.
I can't help but feel like I'm missing out on the REAL Splatoon 3 experience by playing solo queue in my house, instead of at a local LAN game where we can all be connected by wires, and nothing can go nearly as wrong as trying to play online.
Gotta love how the Reefslider has been buffed. It came a long way. 3:10

I cannot tell you how many times I have been shot by chargers that don’t even have the laser on me.
I just got a clip the other day on a Tower Control battle where i killed this Custom Blaster who shot in a different direction, 2 seconds later, i went to that direction and died from a Direct hit when they were already dead. Costed me a loss in a Series because of it.
If I had a Twitter I would have sent a clip of me drowning on land

to be fair, peer to peer works out when the netcode is done properly, but nintendo's prioritises keeping the connection up for everybody more than keeping the game fair, which is why laggy players affect lobbies so much and have so many unfair advantages
Also, I feel like part of the problem is the Switch hardware. It seems like the Switch as a system just has more connection issues than other devices. Hopefully this is something Nintendo addresses in their next console generation!

Splatoon is like Mario Kart, it's _mostly_ smooth _for a Nintendo game..._ They don't have a good netcode, they're just less garbage than the others and that just shows how sad Nintendo's online infrastructure is. Now to be fair, peer-to-peer isn't the biggest culprit, they could have a mostly good online without moving away from p2p, the main problem is really just that Nintendo sucks at networking, they started late, are lacking in experience and are only just starting to actually invest in getting people and partners who really are competent in that.
Once I was on the tower just suddenly went at 100mph
I tend to only notice it in Clams and Salmon Run.

Been playing Slosher and Machine a lot lately, and since those main weapons don’t have the fastest TTK, I have had a lot of experiences hitting two directs and hearing the sfx but not actually damaging a player with one or both of them. Slosher might be meta in LANs but it sure doesn’t feel like it online sometimes 😬

I've directed someone with a Range Blaster shot and he didn't die. I did a double take and had to rewatch the footage. From his perspective, he DID get hit because the shot stopped prematurely and he somehow took **NO DAMAGE!!** not even indirect. That's how I know it's some Lag BS
