Bas Rutten - MMA fighter, kickboxer and UFC Heavyweight Champion and a three-time King of Pancrase world champion - also states that palm strikes are amongst his his favorite tools. And nowadays so underused in fighting.

Older baldy like you my friend, former U. S. Army and fight trainer. You are so very vorrect about slaping or open palm fighting. Provides much better placement, power, and gives you a better ability to grab or continue the counter or preemptive strike sequence. No punches unless to soft areas of the body or with protected hands and knuckles, like a belt or knucks. New subscriber, good video, ty and God bless you.

Valuable info.. sometimes in the heat of an imminent attack it’s natural instinct to clench a fist to strike when your adrenalines got you to fight / flight response.. no doubting the slap works effectively as well though.

Growing up in an urban environment with CCTV everywhere, winning in court after an assault is critical. My first fighting system as a teen had a full range of punching tools, but also a rich collection of open-hand techniques at intermediate to advanced levels. I naturally gravitated to palm techniques, and to this day, decades later, I still practice Chinese Willow Leaf Palm shapes utilizing the edge and base of the hand.
One combination an instructor taught me was a double-ridge hand at trapping-to-grappling range, slicing into the carotid arteries on both sides while at the same time grasping the head with both hands, followed by successive elbows to both sides of the jaws while still controlling the head, and ending with a double 360-degree spinning elbow repeat.
The system even offers a palm-based advanced form called Flying Goose Palm that focuses almost exclusively on palm slaps and ridge hand strikes, often targeting the head, neck, and throat. In fact, the opening movement is a ducking step to the outside with a backhand to the floating ribs. For many reasons, this was my favorite form, which is the only long form from that time in my life that I still practice. The palm methods have gotten me out of a few scrapes, never using a closed fist having become instinctive, over the years.

    Lifelong martial artist.
Young buck tried to coldcock this old man. I knn bk ow & instinctively responded with a parry abd an iron palm full energy slap to his heart. It ended the “fight”.
This video is 100% cap free. Good point about after effects.
Think of a wavelike movement of a bull whip. Three inch punch style.
    Thanks. Real deep information

You're not going to knock anyone out with a slap, without practicing it on someone over and over and over. Do not do do this in real life. The best way to win a fight is not to get into one in the first place. You're better off learning how to defuse the fight, or evade a fight than to attempt to slap someone. You can walk away from most fights, unless you have an ego. If you're worried about surviving a fight, take a Karate class, or boxing class, and learn how to jab, and run. Street fights are never fair, and if you don't knock your opponent out with your slap, they're going to break your nose and knock your front teeth out.

Wait um....doesn't it seem just a little bit unlikely that only one guy would have a "special " slap that no one has ever done before and that no one could defend against? nah...it's probably totally legit and he's also an alien disguised as a human!
