Adults: Teens are ruining their future and they seem dangerous. 14 year old me: Accidentally puts different socks on and watches Disney cartoons with my little sister after 8 hours of studying history. ...yeah I'm very dangerous
Exactly! On one thing, you act like a responsible adult and take on more responsibilities and seriousness they say “loosen up! Enjoy being a kid while you still are!” and tell you to play these boring little kid games with your sibling all the time, like you aren’t busy enough already with college, chores, responsibilities, and all, instead of taking them over to their friend’s house to play with their same age friends but then when you act like you used to as a kid and be a bit silly, they tell you “Grow up! You’re not a kid anymore! You have responsibilities and have to be prepared for the world!” And this is not one parent saying one thing and the other parent saying the other thing. This is the same parent saying both these things. In the same day. You can’t give me two completely opposite directions and expect me to be able to follow them both! Pick one and stick with it!
They want you to mature and grow, but they also don't want you to overstep your boundaries. Like, build habits for living as an adult when you become an adult, but don't think you are one.
I'm a terrible person. That's how I justify people's actions when they try to annoy me so I don't get annoyed. Seriously, I only get annoyed when someone is so stupid I can't handle it or when they annoy a whole group.
Why is technology suddenly bad? The older generations are the ones who created all this social media! They created the world that teens are trying to survive in today. Is it anything like 1950-1990? Obviously not. So the younger generations are going to act different. And yet somehow school, a rise in hormones, homework, social lives, family lives, becoming independent, taking on more responsibilities, being seen as a kid anyway, and a harder economy to live in is not the reason “teens” are depressed. Also, why refer to them/us as “teens”? Its like we are some kind of animal experiment. Here we see a female teen, roll her eyes to convey “angst” a trait only teens have. She then struts away, in such a way to show dominance. Scientists still don’t understand the teen. (Now replace teen with an animal)

I dont understand why some people think our unhappiness is caused by the internet. Its becasue of the school hours, having to work, and still trying to make time for friends and socialization. Not to mention trying to figure out our entire future before we even turn fifteen
Julia Mae I didn’t like how high school was just basically we need to get you ready for college. I’m not going to college. Why did I have to waist those four years?
F B I literally they associate our generation with the previous generation that’s in their 30’s 40’s now I believe and won’t give our generation the benefit of the doubt so if they see one trait that resembles that it categorizes our whole generation without giving us a chance to decide for ourselves
Me: *forgets to make my bed* Mom: it’s because your always on your phone Dentist: it’s because you don’t floss Dad: it’s because of a boy Me: I just forgot...
I feel like most anxiety, panic disorders, and sleep loss isn't due to media but because school is getting harder the more we learn/discover. The more we learn and discover must then be taught in school which adds more work to the already Tsunami of homework and school work. I'm a sophomore and only two weeks into the school year and I'm already bogged down with tests and quizzes almost everyday that require me to study thus staying up late and panicking because we only just learned the material two days ago which means we have to cram a lot of studying into one night. Then the anxiety kicks in because we're worried we won't pass the test or quiz and when you have a quiz or test in all of your four classes every other day, that anxiety won't be leaving anytime soon. P.S The reason why I have 4 classes instead if 6 or 7 is due to Block schedule.
Seier krigføring think about what you just said for a second. School is actually way EASIER than it used to be because of this techonology. Last time I checked having the combined knowledge of humanity in your pocket is a little more useful than a fucking abacus. People are just getting stupider because you don't actually need to learn anything anymore your phone does it all for you. The average ancient Greek citizen was probably more inelligent and well adjusted than the average American citizen today because if he wasn't, he would be dead.
KLAW90 The average non-woman Greek citizen was a slave or servant lol. Only a few educated, land-owners were able to vote. Edit: Forgot about half the Greek population.
I think its just your study habits, honestly. All that work sounds so easy you could say Im jealous. Its as easy as finishing homeworks the day theyre given, so you wouldnt cram on other days. So if you are given an assignment on Monday due on Monday next week, do it on Monday so you have more freetime on the weekends. Its just my personal study habit.
Plus Most schools allow, at a minimum, 60% Score to pass. Which is like, a D- I guess. My school needs an 80% and above to pass or you repeat that same topic/subject over again. Since my school uses point system, some tests have 7 or 10 points per question. So getting 3 answers wrong can mean a fail and repeat of subject.
Why is it that every single time there is a new generation, the adults criticize everything about it, poke and prod, demean and dehumanize, say that "they're not prepared for life," then are surprised when they turn out absolutely fine?
Ryn Thomas Exactly, but it’s mostly the generation (or even 2 generations) before the newest one that always criticize the new one, and then they just downpour criticism and blame the new things like tech for all of our problems. Then they are like “oh when I was your age I went outside and played, but all you do today is just sit around the house all day on that phone”, but then expect us to be okay with it. Also they should take note that the generations after us will have way better things, and then they definitely won’t be able to catch up, so there’s really no point for them to be getting all salty, cause the future generations will have better stuff and technology than we do now in 2018.
Journey awaits as he said social media and technology does make teenagers more complicated because from a young age they learn about culture, economics and they start to develop own opinions and individual mentality at a younger age so most of problems is that they start thinking as adults early on (ps:this does not mean they’re matture in any way, I know a lot of immature and idiotic adults) but because of this the majority depends on the media or let’s the media think for them, and also some teenagers get used to thinking as adults but not living as adults so when the time comes to be adults they are not mentally independent to start their lives alone or by working hard. So is not just technology that creates these mental issues, because is just a tool that makes teenagers inform themselves from their own sources instead of trusting others anymore, because this can bring conflict people tend to just blame completely technology
At school we learn at a MUCH more rapid pace than the past generation which is why it puts so much stress on us. Personally, I think it could be worse, but that’s that.

I also really hate sleeping, I hate sleep because I could be doing something in that time, I wish I didn't have to sleep so I can do more things.
I really dislike the whole "teenagers are more depressed because cell phones exist" point that seems to come up whenever a middle aged white woman decides to pander to out of touch parents. Maybe teenagers are depressed because we're constantly bombarded with news sources magnifying every violent or evil act people commit. Maybe its because our only life experience comes from a school system that prioritizes national standards and funding over necessary life skills, making us unprepared and fearful towards the real world. Or maybe its because we communicate with peers who are depressed, and that makes us cynical. But no, its probably just those newfangled handheld computer boxes. Also, yeah I'm fully aware how edgy this sounds. We live in a society.
I don’t think they cause depression I think the fact that most 13/14/15 year old all grew up with phones I was watching RUclips at 9 and now if I don’t watch RUclips for a week I feel bored

Unpopular opinion: People are more depressed because they say they are and don't understand what depression is and instead think it's a cool and quirky personality trait and at this point it is so engrained in our culture and people will say they're depressed as if it's a normal causual thing.
If you really want to go ahead they can't force you to stay and if they do, they shouldn't because they are not government nor are they legislative branch specifically therefor they can't make the rules unless they are safety rules and last I checked dropping out has nothing to do with safety.

iamUNoriginalLMAO ok, soo lemme explain. It’s not specifically interaction through a screen (which that is a stupid statement) that causes anxiety. It is the way social media is set up. Likes, and r-posts make teens jealous. When we/they see they don’t get many likes we/they tend to think of the negative points (due to survival habits) thus causing depression and anxiety and more jealousy. Hope I helped. @@wokk9543 Okay well that explains everything lol. Okay I'm actually just kidding on that by the way. 2010s kids are just kids so obviously they're just kids right?
Okay okay okay. Yeah yeah lets blame the hormones, and the technology for my anxiety and depression. Not the high expectations from my family. Not the piles of homework. Not having only 3 years to know what I wanna be for the rest of my life. Not staying up late trying to do homework so much that I forget to eat dinner and only have social interaction at school and social media. Oh and lets blame technology for not talking to people physically when most of my friends live on the other side of the earth or on the other end of the country. Stop this thinking. There is more to it than just the technology. If anything, technology helps to distract myself from my issues in life, not create any. Im more anxious about going to a new school this year than going online to Instagram or Discord. Sorry for the rant but it's kinda annoying when you hear the same thing over and over again...
The fact that we cant take the high expectations from our families with proper poise and confidence is the reason why we are depressed. Its the immaturity of the mind and the fault of those stupid neurotransmitters not working on their fucking own.
Not so much high expectations, but more how school works today. School prioritizes standards and funding instead of life skills and things that will be useful when you are an adult. There is also just more things to teach now because people are constantly learning and adding more to the textbooks. This all adds up to more work, and harder work. Parents blame technology because they don’t understand how important it is for staying connected with friends that you cant just visit whenever you want or how its the only way for you to keep up with the rest of the world. They didn’t grow up with it so they don’t see it as necessary. They probably went through the same situation with their parents with whatever was popular during their time. I’m trying to see both sides. And I understand that some kids can be insufferable, entitled, self-absorbed little shits sometimes, including myself from time to time.
THANK YOU in both social media addictions and gaming addictions (actual addictions not just heavily doing it) people have to realized that it not the cause it's the effect.

Social media is lowering the anxiety and decreasing the stress both created by school through many unnecessary tests and useless information stuffed into our heads 5 days a week. When we are using Social media that's the only time we can do something we are actually interested in. The human brain can't even function right until 10am, but students have to wake up at 6am, classes starting at 8am and ending at about 4-5pm with barely any breaks, then still at least 1-2 hours of homework every day. School then questions why we are tired and stressed out, saying it's the fault of social media, although it's their fault because school takes up amlost the whole day + homework and leaving no time for our hobbies and passions, thus forcing us into a stressful, unnecessary and time consuming life style.

I believe that’s the goal. 99% of teens don’t become extroverted so I think they are just trying to scare us with with stuff like that.
Jordan Raney Yeah now I don’t want to grow up now.

Wow! That's pretty much what happens with me all the time! I guess we have to be patient and see how things turn out for all of us!
That’s so me
I feel like most anxiety, panic disorders, and sleep loss isn't due to media but because school is getting harder the more we learn/discover.
P.S The reason why I have 4 classes instead if 6 or 7 is due to Block schedule.
but social media does suck
Seier krigføring think about what you just said for a second. School is actually way EASIER than it used to be because of this techonology. Last time I checked having the combined knowledge of humanity in your pocket is a little more useful than a fucking abacus.

Plus
Most schools allow, at a minimum, 60% Score to pass.

Ryn Thomas
Exactly, but it’s mostly the generation (or even 2 generations) before the newest one that always criticize the new one, and then they just downpour criticism and blame the new things like tech for all of our problems.

"Kids these days"

We live in a society.

ive never been anxious from social media
that comes from a possible upcoming harsh reality coming towards me
iamUNoriginalLMAO ok, soo lemme explain. If I didnt, sry for wasting ur time. (Btw I became suicidal because of social media. When I took a hard break from social media it was just a relief)

Whoa. What went wrong man. Look at your profile pic

Anthony Yard 10 hours a day is normal for me my highest was probably 19 hours playing video games cause I was doing a raid on destiny which was really annoying lmao
I once watch a online series and before I knew it it was morning
Anthony Yard Lmao 12 hours at age 12 isn’t a lot, I once played ROBLOX for 32 hours when I was 11
These are rookie numbers
“Oh no,
I’m more depressed and angsty now that I’m watching RUclips videos”.
- no teen ever
I’m more depressed after reading this comment so I beg to differ.
A comment is different from a RUclips video
@@shannonmcglynn8153 Still apart of RUclips. The video is the cause of you writing a comment. Also the comments are on the video so it's apart of the video in its own way.
Lol you must have been angsty to write that. The irony
but what if I say it
"This may explain why teenagers aren't rushing to get new cars and houses."
Probably because don't have 60,00 dollars sitting around. 😒
And that's just for the car, a decent house can be almost a million dollars.
A "decent" house can be found for under 100,000 dollars.
Drink water not alcohol if you live in commie fornia maybe lmfao not anywhere near that expensive in the rest of the USA where a McMansion can be had for 200-400k and an average home will cost 60-150k.
Frost HAHA no I live in Canada, I meant 1 million Canadian dollars. 😂 Also housing around Toronto is mad expensive.
Frost agree.
Houses in the city will always be more expensive, i live in chicago, ans moving into the suburbs the house is 250k (its cheap concidering how close it is to the city, and its a 3 story single family home)
But it gets cheaper towards the suburbs, ive seen mini mansions go for 200k (were actually looking into moving further outward and getting the much larger house)
I’m a teenager and my mom is one of my 2 friends oops
Heh. Well many years ago when I was a teen, I had 4 friends, and 2 were my parents. That doesn't mean they neglected parental duties (they taught me a lot about life, especially my dad before he died).
Marmite for an 11 year old that’s sad tbh
Marmite you’re not gonna get anywhere in life sweetie I’m 10 call me young I don’t care but yikes you really need too look after yourself just be glad you’ll be employed by google they accept lazy people with hardly and brain cells
Just like Joanna RRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Who’s the other one
Mom: "You are old enough to make decisions for yourself and to talk about the ideas you're interested in"
Me: *talks about racism, discrimination, government issues, society---
Mom: "You're too young to get involved in those issues"
Haha as long as your educated from unbiased sources on those topics you can talk about any issue you see fit
At what age R we old enough to share our own opinions?
This happens EVERY TIME i talk to my parents about lgbt people and try to get them to stop hating them so much
