You guys are both great, I have been going through the same kind of mental shit for almost a year. Finally seeing the light now. Both Ren and Beethoven have helped a lot -do you realise the similarity with you and Beethoven at 32/33 Ren, he only kept going because of his art. He was a flamboyant performer and virtuoso pianist, a visionary creator unbalancing the norms in the genres of his day and with a vast humanity. Sound familar? He almost gave up when he was 32 and he was suicidal writing the Heiligenstadt testament !! the greatest example of seeing through it all is the late quartets and sonatas where he faced the godhead and treated the impostors of success and failure and transcended reality...
Ren had a Twitch stream after the premier and he got real emotional when he saw how many videos were posted less than an hour after the drop. It was beautiful to see and I'm glad he had an unforgettable birthday. Sounds like the Sick Boi album will have 16 songs with 13 left to be released.

I think I found the root of "The Illest" :

think about it "ill be the illest (till i find) the answer I'm looking for...?" like he doesn't want to be the illest
if he was the greatest he would never want to stop being the greatest but he isn't claiming to be the greatest just the "illest" till he finds the answer? The answer*** he is looking for is a cure to Lyme Disease until he finds it he is the illest** of our time but he'd rather not be, he'd rather cure Lyme Disease. None of his treatments make sense there's no plan the'yre just trying stuff on him, even now in Canada there's no long term plan & goal (he said it in a video) it's all pretty much experimental. He has to study what he has seen done to him he is the pupil* (student) of his eyes travel through the light in the darkness he's been through. The cornea** (The transparent part of the eye that covers the iris and the pupil and allows light to enter the inside.)

Ren has so many Easter eggs in his songs. “I’m heavy Mercury” he manages to merge two concepts into one line. Mercury is a heavy metal and the he switches to Freddy. Brilliant!
"Kill a king, take his crown" Ren gonna be a problem. Most versatile artist I've come across, maybe ever. Bars like Slim, beats unlike any rapper out there, voice like the love child of Bob Marley and Matt Bellamy, and unreal guitar skills.
All of this is wrapped up in truly creative and beautifully produced LIVE music videos. He's a once in a generation talent who's recognition is long overdue. Can't wait for his album.

"Illest of our time" is more of a direct statement about his health, with the video serving as a glimpse into his mind. Yes, it matches the bravado of some of the hardest of rappers, but given his current focus on his health, it's more about that in my mind than bragging about his own skill. Which is considerable! This is a fantastic song.

He has been flexing and making statements about himself as a rapper before like in The Hunger and Losing It, but this feels different.

"Im picking up the world im squatting" coukd be a reference to the famous statue in Atlas Shnrugged ... also a story about a mysterious figure who fights against the system ... tho in a more libertarian way ...
The "I'm in your hood your hood and I'm Robbin ..." is almost a triple ...he')s in your rich neighbor(hood robbing from the rich to give to the poor) making him a modern day Robin Hood (he often references wealth inequality in his songs) but also Jason Todd/Robin = becomes the Red Hood
The Freddie Mercury line is even a double...cause he goes "I'm heavy I'm mercury I'm Freddie ..." ...mercury is one of the heaviest metallic elements in nature ...

This stuff is so rich. That line, "I pick the world up, I'm squatting," is so dope and it just gets lost between the coughing/coffin and robbing hood lines. Ren went to town on this one.

Listening to something like Akala - Fire in the Booth (parts1++), is honestly a really good reference to understand where recent uk hiphop sound has developed from.
I can go further back than that if need be, yet I think we should maybe keep the time scheme to about 1 decade. (Because time and progress speeds up in regards to information access.)

You should check out a show called 'Whose line is it anyway', it's based on improv comedy where the cast gives the answers that first come to their mind. It first aired in the late '90s and early '00s, and then re-aired in the last decade with another host, this year will be the last season they'll make, and I really hope you'll like it, especially the earlier episodes 😁

Because he is a masochist, the type to kill a pacifist (doesn't fear to fight), an alchemist of words (what is the objective of Alchemy?), an evangelist, spreading the good word but in a way that you think he is a cancerous pragmatist, and yes "think before I speak then I answer it" (he has the answers, but first you have to find the questions). As in 'Hi Ren' he tells as that he is Mercury (the messenger of Gods, also the trickster, who gets all the ladies he want), and he is Freddy (I think this is a reference to F. Kruger, the evil child killer) in one person (and actually playing with the name of Freddy Mercury in the same time). Don't just hear my word "eat my word fill your belly" because there is much to ponder. He is a fallen angel on his way to get back to heaven, so he fully shows himself to everybody, and if you go deep into " the corner of my cornea and mind" you may find the answers that even Ren could not find. Who (Ren and his audience) could ask for anything more?
My favourite part of this song, is the whole "find your iself inside the mind of the illest of our time" is either a huge reference to the ill mind of hopsins or one hell of a coincidence.
Experiences over time can help to figure out his rhymes; whether socio-economic, governmental or religion on the side.

What’s so v fascinating about Ren is he is able to utilise really well known cultural references alongside some really heavy duty rarefied ancient academic references, if you will.
He is all round addictive, it’s personal alongside being a commentary upon the global portico references. Our dystopian outlook though we are, and many would say have been living in compliance and control, despair and disparity.
Existential suffering. Ren has a solid sense of self which is not to be taken for granted, unfortunately. I would say Ren knows that.
I was left with a sad feeling in hi Ren when he says I might even be remembered when I’m gone. It was sad to me that he was and has been so unwell that death, thinking about death and not being here is unavoidable.

Obviously 'I am Freddy' is also a call back to the earlier line when he 'was chopping' as Freddie Krueger. And this might be a coincidence (or probably not, knowing Ren), but 'I am Freddy' is a song by Detlef (a Euro club DJ), the beat of which, speeded up, sounds only a little bit like the beat as they're walking through the carpark with the baseball bats.

Rens talent is multifaceted, the dude is like a Swiss army knife... the word play and his cadences are off the chart! The beats and samples are sick! Illest of our time has a double meaning, as he's genuinely seriously ill, with a serious untreatable condition, which has caused a whole load of other problems, mental and physical. To illustrate how serious, when younger he was offered a major record contract but was diagnosed just afterwards. The record company immediately dropped him, as they saw it as pointless. They didn't think he'd be able to record or perform and could possibly even die. He's been in Canada recently, receiving an experimental treatment.
