    so, fun fact: the author of that infamous how to draw manga book was only 14 years old when she wrote and published it. and while it wasn't good, it was the only art book i remember owning as a kid that actually went into fundamentals of art like proportion, perspective, shading, etc. like, she deserves some serious props for putting that together while in high school IMO

      If nothing else that “late 90s/early 2000s westerner drawing in manga style” is itself a really distinctive aesthetic and you see it a lot, so in those terms as a trendsetter she eclipsed a lot of ‘serious’ artists.

    I honestly feel like Code Lyoko was ahead of its time in a few ways. If it came out today with the ability to show blood/have major stakes, the XANA stuff could work so much better.

    • @Domi39
      @Domi39 2 года назад +160

      But It DID have major stakes...? It established from the getgo that returning to the past didn't bring people back to life. People were visibly in pain and close to dying practically every episode... That's precisely how it drove home its intensity. Jim and Ulrich were inches from asphyxiating in the closet in the one episode. And Ulrich's mom and dad along with everyone at his soccer game were screaming for their lives as gravity reversed and they were flying into the sky. And I won't spoil it for anyone that may end up watching it, but a character DIES and they all have to live with that. It conveyed the seriousness and intensity of life threatening situations extremely well. Growing up my dad was the chief of my local fire station and he didn't want me to watch Code Lyoko because he thought it was too intense for me. But in fact it taught me EXACTLY how to handle myself in high stress/life threatening situations. You don't need blood to convey the urgency of an emergency.

    People always say something was their entire childhood, but for me that really was true with Code Lyoko, I would watch it everyday, I’d talk about constantly, I drew the characters and villians and made my own, I even invented entire sectors and such, I was doing advance fanfic shit but I didn’t write it, just the extra world building. I’d print screenshots of the show onto paper and hang them up in my room, and then my mum would yell at me for wasting the color ink. I had the DVDs and would just watch the show, over and over. Had plenty of toys, and the video games and I still love the series a lot. Maybe it’s just hard coded into my nostalgia now but even trying to be real when I re-watched it recently I still loved it so deeply! I love whenever I see people talk about it, just makes me happy, I need more Lyoko fans to exist, constantly.

    I used to watch this show with my sister all the time. Yumi was our favorite, though we liked all the kids. I have a very strong memory of the first time they materialized Aelita, both because of the moment being big to me as a kid and because of a certain memory attached to it. My parents were out of town at the time, and we were being babysat by our much older brother. While we were watching the show my parents called to check in, and my brother handed the phone over to my sister so she could say hi. Instead of doing that, she put the phone up to her ear and told my parents: "I can't talk, they're about to materialize Aelita!" And then she HUNG UP on them lol. It was so funny.

A few of the threats thrown at the lyoko warriors include nano bots that wipe memory from those they infect, xana figuring out how to reverse gravity to send people to the sky to die, a terminator, using a song to put people into a coma and manipulating the weather in an attempt to make the warriors freeze to death. Here's the thing though, the Lyoko Quantum Supercomputer has its own unique feature by creating light that manipulates anything caught by it especially during Return To The Past which will de-atomize you so it is pretty clear the Lyoko Quantum Supercomputer is special, there are other Supercomputers XANA takes advantage of but they don't have the Virtualization feature the LQS does, the LQS also uses Glowing Ions in Liquid or something and has a specific construction and parts, I don't have any other ideas how the Virtualization Process works but the machine using the same light for the procedure but I do have the Return To The Past basically figured out, it is legit not even Time Travel but the machine manipulating the Quantum Space and needs existing atoms to work with, Death basically has no atoms existing or functioning and is why it can't bring back the dead and damaged Data Boards it had also were unable to be reversed with the RTTP and there is the fact you have DNA and digital code, X.A.N.A. William showed how because you have digital code, there are dangers if it gets affected by anything malicious.

So, during the transition from Earth to Lyoko, he gets stuck in the limbo between worlds. That way to materialize Aelita had to go to Jeremy, so she had to stay longer.

    Code Lyoko is my favorite cartoon of all time! It had alot of realistic school situations. Stress, school, relationships, Parent issues!
    I think Code Lyoko handled friendship much better then Shonen anime does!
    The biggest problem with Code Lyoko. The writers kept reckoning character development with the return to the past!
    Sissy,Gym could’ve been great support characters for the Lyoko warriors. But The writers clearly just did not care :/
    Code Lyoko has a very interesting mystery story! But there is a bunch of filler. The episodes where Xanna keeps on destroying everything and possessing everything. Those episodes are complete Filler! You need to watch the episodes that tie in with all of Xana, Aelita and France hopper!
    I still watch Code Lyoko today! The series means so much to me. 💙🖤💙
    They pretty much wasted William as a character, he should have been a Lyoko Warrior for at least a month before making him all evil for the rest of the series.... That wasn't fair to him!!!! :c
    Code Lyoko is my favorite cartoon of all time. But I feel like it's one of those Series where the creators didn't realize how amazing the show could have been if they actually were consistent with every character.... And every choice! Code Lyoko definitely had amazing story potential but I feel like the creators kept running into holes every other week.... :/ They just didn't want to keep (SIDE) characters being consistent. And pushing them.. That's why Return to the past became an issue for the series. Some characters needed that development but they kept taking it away from them!! :c like Sissy!!! She actually was a nice person but they kept making her into a jerk by going back in time.
    The Creator said the studio who holds the rights to (Code Lyoko) could technically make new episodes if they wanted to, but there are no promises.

    • @elizabethclarke4981
      @elizabethclarke4981 Год назад

      Agreed, I've always believed Sissy should've been part of the team officially. It would've been a great opportunity for her to grow as a character: being more self sufficient and a team player etc plus I think her girly personality would have fit right in and make the group more complete because we have Jermey the nerd, Yumi the tomboy, Aelita the shy girl, Odd the goofball and Ulirch the cool guy

      @@MimzyKuppycakez Just make sure you temper your expectations. When it’s good, it’s great. There are a lot of fun ideas and interesting plot points throughout the show.
      But you can definitely tell they had a lot of pressure from higher-ups to dumb it down for “muh kid’s show.” A lot of character development getting reset, episodic stories covering the same old tracks, dragging out certain plot lines way too long, and mind-numbing moral lessons.
      But if you can get past that, it’s worth the watch. When it’s at its best, it’s amazing. But at its worst it’s never horrible or fully unwatchable apart from a few really bad episodes.

Giving it a more MMO Game vibe while the cortex gets brought back which brings back Xana as a optional boss character that regains its sentient mind but looses its omnipresence.

    This show randomly came to my mind the other day, the timing of this episode couldn’t have been timed better….

    Best of the best collaboration of 2022. My two favorite nostalgic RUclips creators on one topic.

    every couple of years I remember Code Lyoko and get hit with a huge wave of nostalgia for one of my favorite shows growing up. Thinks for being this year's wave :)

    I swear hearing that Miguzi bumper jostled a lot of old memories like air bubbles becoming dislodged.

    For some reason there’s this one episode stuck in the recesses of my mind. It was next level interpersonal drama for my child brain.
    Yumi has to move away because her dad gets a better paying job or something. Ulrich doesn’t want her to leave and he notices that the lottery is happening that night on TV. He ends up pulling the time reset switch even though they haven’t actually done any mission so he can give her the winning lottery numbers (hoping her family won’t need to move anymore).

    Before Miraculous revive the Franime (French anime), we had this.
    P.S: Evolution is the worst (the live action adaptation).

    This was my childhood! Everyone has the same forehead as Haru from Persona 5, aired on CN via Miguzi, and we don't have a Spindly Johnny(Phantom Virus) to be the antagonist! But Odd is indeed this show's Super Shag.

    To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Code Lyoko. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Xana nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Code Lyoko truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Xana existential catchphrase "100101101010101," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Nicolas Atlan genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂
    And yes, by the way, i DO have a code Lyoko tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

      I was literally watching a Northernlion Live Super Show from a few years ago this morning where one of the guests said this copypasta for Rick and Morty. Then this and the Jordan Fringe video releasing in the same hour? Today's funky.
