This is an absolute disgrace!! I'm so sorry that Roger had this happen to him!! He should still be here today!! I'm going to be completely honest. The majority of my family are police officers, but that doesn't stop me from being scared of the police myself. It isn't always about the color issue. I'm a white female, and trust me, I have had my own issues with law enforcement, which I did absolutely nothing to deserve what had happened to me. They were white and African American officers. I absolutely do believe alot of these officers take the "law" into their own hands. I'm not trying to make this about me. Please understand that. I will pray that Roger gets the justice he deserves!! Thank you, Roger, for serving for our country!! You truly were a stand-up man!!🫡🙏🏻💜🙏🏻

Just because they say police and you know they have no reason to be there, in today's society why wouldn't you be wise to be safe, wasn't he trained to take precautions at all times and not give anyone the benefit of the doubt, no one earns my trust and I can't see you, the officer should have shown he was a police officer, even then I'm not just to open my door, and there's nothing going on inside my residence. It is not legal to have a handgun in a position that could kill the police officer. The move from a safe handgun position to a firing position would have taken 1 or 2 seconds at most. Cops "are equal opportunity" for harming citizens. All need CSPOA Constitution training, or Hillsdale College's free online Constitution class for LEO's, or Abiyah Israel's We The People training. Better screening needed. Kids and elderly are routinely cuffed supposedly for cops' safety. I do not believe this is about racism, but it may be a neighbor weaponizing the cops. The courts also are corrupt. If there was a 911 call, the person who called should be identified. The leasing office person if employee or not is accountable for speaking on what she was not certain on other than what she had heard. She is fully accountable for the running of her mouth on an innocent person. The deputy who stated all was hearsay by a fourth party (whoever he meant) should also be held accountable. And, the deputy’s actions in heading toward an apartment without verification of a 911 call of where the call was from or on whom it was on was intentional negligence. He overused his authority and title thereby making the egregious decision to go to the apartment he was directed to by the leasing office female without verifying its call via dispatch first. He, with full and intentional malice, and going by what he was told by the leasing office female already had hate on his way toward the apartment intentionally and without thought executed the innocent victim who was in his own home with his own registered weapon; never pointed at the deputy; without his finger on the trigger; of no opposing threat to the deputy; with a calm demeanor; obeyed his order; knew not why the deputy was there before his demise; is executed in cold blood just because the deputy decided to do so way before he had even arrived at the door. The deputy’s demeanor as he knocks and stepping away from the door shows his mental thoughts of a possible weapon on the other side of the door. This was his thought. And, if he saw a gun, he was going to shoot. He shot not once for what would have been lie #1: Felt threatened, but he shot him six times. This amount of shots is intentional malice with hateful forethought. My condolences to the family. It is heartfelt. I do not know the family nor Mr. Fortson, but I felt the pain. There should be no administrative leave. That deputy should be in jail as should be the leasing office female and whoever called, if there was a 911 call at all. The deputy should go to jail for life. No amount of money will bring back this young man ever. 😢🙏🏼

Always doing the right thing and helping out and went into the Marines after graduating high school so he could help me. I can't imagine your pain and frustration. At the way society treats black men, especially young black men of such good high caliber. I have cried with you and said so many prayers and will continue to do so. Thank you for standing and bearing witness for your son. And standing up against corruption. When you told them that they could come to your son's funeral when they told the truth and cleared the air. I cheered out loud for you. Every child deserves a mother as strong as you and as loving and tenacious!! Keep being you keep staying strong and inspiring the rest of us and make God continue to bless you much love from a marine mom in Vermont.

He actually said "step outside" and then started shooting. That part took me aback. I had to play it numerous times and then I holy sh*t, this cop crapped his pants and realized he should have given the command 1st before he started to treat the person like a fish in a barrel and unloaded lead into his torso. It was almost like his actions were working faster than his brain. Almost like it was pre-meditated or he was ready for a potential confrontation because of the nature of the call? Was the officer's gun already unholstered. Some are saying there was a click which could have meant the officer was unholstering his weapon when the door opened. Then if that is the case that would mean he actually started shooting as soon as he unholstered his weapon. He immediately thought the person was a threat it seems. Also, can we address the sheriff's claim they in fact had the correct apartment? So why is there no more discussion about that because the guy as it appears was there by himself.

Oddly enough or not apparently the serviceman's phone was still rolling and the she caught some audio from the cop that may not put him in the best light. I am wondering as well did the officer immediately call for medical or did he try to offer medical assistance at all? I do not recall any discussion of that? As a retired veteran, the actions against Roger truly sickens me. There are actually people out here asking why the young man brought 'heat' with him to his front door. I'm thinking to myself - holy crap this is what us military guys commonly do when someone is beating on our house door and we don't hear a voice. Beating on doors and saying 'this is the police' is one of the top methods that home invaders currently use in metro areas throughout America. Roger never pointed his lawfully owned weapon towards the deputy.
The deputy failed to use basic interpersonal skills to gain an understanding if he was at the right or wrong apartment after Roger opened his apartment door. Its as if the cop went through a mental 2 point biased checklist when Roger opened the door: #1 - is this a black man...Yeup, #2 - does he have a weapon in his hand....Yeup. The deputy immediately stared firing at Roger after his two-question, bias mental checklist met the 'YES' requirement. The deputy failed to ask Roger to place his weapon down so they could talk before he hauled off 6 rounds into Roger. This was plain murder. That deputy saw a black man with a gun and thought - 'I'm gonna get this black dude' F- it. That deputy owes a life term for what he did and I wish my brothers with the AFOSI happy hunting on their investigation into the shooting.

He didn't wait for his backup. I'm a dispatcher in a large city and some of our veteran cops become complacent and do things like this as well. I had an officer go to a domestic violence call to serve a protection from abuse order without telling me where he was going. He came over the air screaming and hollering asking for back up because he had gotten into a fight with the male in the home, was assaulted, his taser had been deployed but he missed and the male was able to flee the scene before I could get other officers there. And what made it even worse is that the officer didn't know what floor of the apartment building he was on. I thought he was still at the district and was confused as to where to send him help. Needless to say, he got lucky that day because it could've gone worse.
