Many years ago I was with my girlfriend shopping in London. We were in a shop and as we were leaving I was grabbed by the security guard who said he suspected me of having put something in my bag. Obviously I had not but he wanted to look into the bag so I opened it and he was satisfied. I'm white and Irish, the security guard was black and English. This had nothing to do with the colour of his skin or my skin, his accent or my accent but some people will try and use similar situations to their narrative and agenda, that's the problem with modern society.
Very good response. Rationale is very precise. Thought provoking. Greetings from Sydney.
Just becuase you have never experienced racism dosent mean it doesnt exist. From young it happens all the time people treating you differently or as a criminal. Some times it's so blunt. @@tawanamufasa291 you entirely missed my point. But adults in the Black ethnic group are significantly less likely to smoke and account for a lower level of alcohol-related hospital admissions.”
FACT 3: MENTAL HEALTH
Black people are more than three times more likely to be detained under the Mental Health Act.
FACT 4: EDUCATION
From their early years, black people do not have the same life chances as the rest of the population.
White students aged 16-18 are twice as likely (11.0% versus 5.1%) as their fellow black students to achieve 3 A grades at ‘A’ Level.
Black Caribbean pupils were nearly twice as likely to be excluded as white pupils (10.2% compared to 5.2%) in the academic year 2016/17 and three times more likely to be permanently excluded.
FACT 5: EMPLOYMENT
Wherever you look across society this yawning gap in the lives of the black and white population reveals itself.
In 2018, black people had the highest unemployment rate of any ethnicity at 9% - more than twice the white population at 4%. Data from the Office for National Statistics shows that, in 2018, only 66.9% of the black population was employed, versus 76.4% of the white population.
FACT 6: EARNINGS
Even when they are employed, black people do not earn as much as others.
In London in 2018, ethnic minorities earned 21.7% less than the rest of the population. In the same year, the Resolution Foundation found that, overall, 1.9 million black and ethnic minority workers are paid about £3.2 billion less than their white counterparts every year.
FACT 7: HOMELESSNESS
Black people are much more likely to be homeless.
In 2017-18, black households were more than five times more likely to be designated as ‘statutory homeless’ in England. At the other end of the scale, in 2016-17, 73% of the white population were homeowners versus only 68% of the black population.
FACT 8: VICTIMS OF CRIME
Black Caribbeans believe that they are more than 50% more likely to be a victim of crime in the next year compared to white people (28% versus 18%).
FACT 9: POLICE STOP AND SEARCH
Black people are nearly 10 times more likely to be stopped and searched by police than white people, according to the Government’s own statistics.
Between April 2018 and March 2019, there were 38 stop and searches per 1,000 black people, compared to four per 1,000 white people.
FACT 10: ARRESTS
Black people are three-and-a-half times more likely to be arrested than white people. Black women are twice as likely to be arrested than white women.
FACT 11: PRISON
Black people serve prison sentences which are 50% longer than those for white people. In 2017, the average length of sentence for a young black adult was 28 months, compared to 19 months for a young white adult.
Young black defendants are twice as likely to be denied bail.
FACT 12: DEATHS IN CUSTODY
Nearly a third of all police custody deaths in the past two years involving were of black people, according to a review into deaths in police custody by the Independent Office of Police Conduct.

@@isthereanybodyoutthere9397 I think they were talking about the end of the clip. Deaths in custody can’t just be called ‘bullying on a mass scale’. The Home Secretary had her figures ready and answered.
Deaths in custody happen for a range of reasons and that wasn’t explicit in the question from the mid-bench. Both the question and Home Secretary used potentially divisive statistics, that is how statistics are used every day in all outputs of data.
The arguments about deaths in custody and stop and search are not cut and dry.
But I know one thing. There is no way in hell the police force would maintain a policy such as ‘stop and search’ if they didn’t have to.
The police are far from perfect but they only really seek to prevent and detect crimes. They aren’t the reason that certain social groups are more likely to commit certain types of crime and not is it their remit to affect social change.
I’m absolutely no fan of this Government or this Home Secretary but those were two incredibly righteous questions posed to her from virtuous standpoints.
Oh and the ‘walk out’? More like someone leaving after their having their one allotted question answered, possibly so someone else could replace them in a distanced parliament.

@Robbie Stones it's a logical fallacy to assume moral equivalency based on time or distance. Subjectively, Adolf Hitler occupied the same place in his society as Winston Churchill did in ours, but objectively they are different ethically. Slave traders/owners 300 years ago subjectively had the same social standing as non-slave owning busines men and philanthropists today, but objectively they are very different ethically. The 'left' way of thinking, by which I assume you mean progressiveness, or led from the bottom rather than top, is responsible for much of the progress in society over the last 1000 years and the reason why we enjoy democracy, weekends, reasonable pay, no (legal) slavery, and why we prefer football to gladiatorial combat. It's also the reason racism is much less prevalent now. Kindness of thought and kindness of action is not 'weak' or 'snowflakey'. Fear, ignorance and resistance to change (which are common traits among right leaning folk - as found by psychologists) are surely worse for the fabric of society?
@Robbie Stones I responded to exactly what you said. You seem to believe in moral relativism. "You weren't there in (period of history) therefore you can't say that (X act of barbarity, cruelty or atrocity) was wrong." Objectively, you can compare. You yourself seem to think things are worse now than in the past - but you can't compare, according to your argument????
Secondly, conservatism literally means to conserve the status quo of society, meaning an unchanging society. Not sure how you can argue that conservative thought and morals have led to progress?
Lastly, you mention nihilism and moral corruption. You seem to long for the moral certainty of an imagined past, like Islamists long for an imagined Islamic past, fundamental Christians long for an imagined biblical past. Morals are always changing, and as a rule of thumb what was moral in the past is considered unethical - even evil - today. History is full of people behaving awfully to each other, and there have always been people struggling against that - the abolitionists, the suffragettes, revolts, revolutions, etc. Today is no different, except maybe the things people are trying to change now aren't as bad as in the past.
@Robbie Stones I think you are confused as what you wrote makes little sense. I think you've misunderstood what I wrote. As a t-total atheist, I consider myself to be a very ethical person. I'm frankly surprised you call yourself a Christian yet write quite hateful comments (looking at your posting history). Jesus was pretty left leaning. Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. Good day to you sir.
Who elects those people? She was born in 1996!
People want to vote for a party, not an individual. But the outdated British political system forces people to vote for individuals and not for parties. If your MP decides to switch parties, there’s nothing you can do to stop them, and you have to put up with an MP who no longer represents your views until the next general election.
The rest of Europe has left FPTP behind and progressed to Proportional Representation, which is much fairer and more democratic. But both the Tories and Labour like the system the way it is, because it benefits them and penalises smaller parties. So it is unlikely to change unless literally half the electorate votes for the Liberal Democrats to get it changed.

Fine. But in the long run they win because defences are worn down and half-hearted "roastings" don't achieve anything. Can't be on the defensive with these people. They claim to have the moral high ground and morally lecture others, demanding justice. But that should be turned on them: they are immoral and evil. They should be shamed and every demand they make from their cult frame shouldn't only be rejected, action should be taken to show this is rejected. For example, erect a new and bigger statue of Colston by fining everyone of the scumbags who can be identified as having partaken in the riot and destruction of public property.
Statues are historical monuments and works of art in themselves. To try and expect history to be up to modern standards of morality is foolhardy at best.
