I said in this video that Launchpad was built by Oceanco but the yacht was of course built by Feadship. I have a great reason for this error which I’ll explain in the next video.
@@eSysmanSuperYachts I watched this episode. Hey everyone entitled to make a mistake once in awhile, you recovered.
400 firefightes/18 hours! That was a serious blaze!
And no hotdogs or marshmallows?
it was a "slow roast" ;)
Presumably they worked it in shifts. It wasn't 400 people there for all 18 hours
@@zaphodsrealm1549 I know it's gonna cost a hell a lot of money to rebuild it.
The storm hit Galveston a lot harder than most people realize. A very close friend of mine lives in Galveston and lost the roof to his house and the entire second floor of the home. It’s raining there right now and it’s pouring water through his house. And there’s nothing he can do as he is wheelchair bound.
I was born and raised in Texas City, next to Galveston across the bridge, and I'm just learning this. I thought it hit south Texas. I don't live there anymore obviously. Did it hit straight there, or catch the edge of the storm?
There's not much you can do if you're able to walk, either.
Talk to a billionaire and see if they will pay for a new roof.
I think Lurssen is going to struggle to insure their operations.
You'd be surprised to see what insurers will do for a regular yacht.
This is nothing, Lurssen has been around for DECADES and this is the first loss of this type. Tr
I have faith that Lurssen to pull through this and come back stronger.
Just need watch crew with a capable system. Tighter control of potential mishaps. Add to cost of build.
@@TheMoneypresidentseveral reports including from this channel have said the fire started in an adjacent building (Shared a common wall) and it was originally electrical in nature and electric cables/wires became overheated and caused the fire to spread into the buildout shed. If that is actually the case and it was determined by investigators it was caused by shoddy wiring that was was done by no certified electricians or that circuits were seriously overloaded insurance company will balk at paying any claims. Additionally the Yacht in that shed is forever more stink of smoke even if the the vessel is gutted stripped of all paint and power washed repeatedly because there is always going to be smoke/soot trapped somewhere waiting to stink up the boat. Years ago I purchased a conversion van that had small interior fire that I was going to use as a work van. I gutted the van power washed it inside and out repeatedly and used a half a dozen smoke odor eliminator products, panted the interior and exterior of the van always had a stink of smoke and burnt carpet until the day I sent it to the scraper
@4:23 The hurricane while it affected mostly Northern Grenada...the mainland survived pretty well... what you are showing there is likely from Grenada's sister isle Carriacou. Carriacou is what was totally devastated with nearly all buildings destroyed. Petit Martinique (belongs to Grenada) was also pretty damaged as well. A bit further North, the Vincentian Grenadines were hit hard as well with their islands, Union, Palm, Mayreau, Petit St. Vincent, Canaouan etc reporting significant damage.
🙋♂️ THANKS ESYSMAN FOR THE UPDATE 🤗💚💚💚
One additional note on support vessels - they also often include things such as commercial galleys and the like, for entertainment of a large number of guests. Geoff Rohde
Long time Viewer here. Please advise how a metal hull could reach 1000 degrees and not have some serious metallurgy issues? Who would buy that and feel that in the long run you weren't asking for some REAL problems?
im just speculating but its before the hardening temperature so the structure properties should remain unchanged, my issue would be with the welds having received extreme shear forces due to uneven expansion but they are likely so over engineered that its not an issue is my guess.
seems negligent to not have fire supression systems in the factory.
They would have been required by law. They cannot always successfully put out a fire.
Seems ignorant and arrogant to think and comment that there wasn't a fire suppression system in the factory.
@@grondhero Presumably he meant a "sufficient" one. Especially after this already happened once before.
Bear in mind that it only needs a single electric scooter battery to ignite to take out a whole factory, they burn so hot and so fast that water has no effect. EV fires cannot be extinguished, they have to burn out.
I see many boaters and RV'rs chucking these batteries in their habitation spaces without a care, although there is no evidence yet, I would expect a lithium battery started this fire, probably a small, insignificant one too, not involved with the build. Please stay safe out there and learn the hazards, people have died from fires caused by these and the number is rising fast as they become more popular.
Good reporting
So the superyacht is like the appetizers. You get them to get hungry for the main course of mega yacht and support vessel on the side.
That is why boaters in Texas only want a hull that can be trailered away from the coast when a storm is inbound. Even if it takes four axles and a wide load permit. Getting a hundred miles inland means zero damage.
Thank you for sharing with us 🙏 God Bless
Pictures of hurricane damage were from Carricou , Grenada dodged the worst of Beryl , but Carricou, and Union Island, we seriously hit , such a shame , they were beautiful , it’ll be 2 yrs at least before they are back up and running.
Years ago when I was young I was security for the Golden Odyssey when it came into San Diego for refit and its support vessel the Golden Shadow was built.
I worked on their rubber boats there.
Good vlog mate 😂😂❤
Thanks my friend.....Shoe🇺🇸
The hurricane Beryl footage, from WXChasing, is at the Island of Carriacou, not Grenada. Carriacou is part of the country of Grenada but is a distinct island some 20 NM to the north of the island of Grenada. The latter has not suffered that much. Carriacou was leveled.
What do they do with the debris from cleanup?
@@judd_s5643 much will be burned, as garbages are burned
Always love your stories 😊
One question for you. Why do they classify as yachts when they look and weigh as much as ocean liners. To me they should be classified as ocean liner.
As an X s up super yacht builder at a NZ yard I can vouch how easy it is to have an on board fire while in the construction stage. We had several near misses and looking back were very fortunate.
I feel for the yard and the employees, some of whom will be devastated, When you boil it all down you will probably find it's a lack of diligence from Management down. I hope no one was hurt.
As a ships engineer I have been through several yard periods and a refit. First of all it is not about the fire suppression system because you are not looking at some material sitting on the ground that can be reached easily. Most of the fires happen inside of a ship. If the ship starts burning inside the only thing you can do is cooling the surrounding parts but to extinguish it you need to get the water or the foam (depending on the type of fire) to the source of the fire itself.
There is a different problem and this is either early fire detection or fire protection if constructional work is done. I have seen that many times in different yards and it is the lack of adhearing to certain procedures when it comes to hotwork on or inside ships.
Most of the time there are very small fires cause by grinding or welding works without the proper preperation and safety. A litte bit of quick grinding here just a quick weld there. No fire blankets, extuinguishers and no idea what is behind the wall or bulkhead you are welding at. Very small fires can be undetected for a long time creeping through several compartments on a ship without setting of a detection system. Furthermore detection systems are most of the time dissabled kn a yard so people need to be careful in what they are doing.

I saw on Baltic -Northsea Chanal 1 Day ago. Super Yacht unready goes from Luersen to Nederland for Finish
Another great video. Everything can be rebuilt, (Terence Disdale Design) Sassi became Opera.
The hurricane was only a Cat 1 when it hit the Matagorda Bay area. Pelican's Rest is a nice small marina, but is isn't very well protected and it is right on the coast, behind the lowest area on the island. On windy south wind days, all the boats rock. It would have been best to evacuate the boat to the Clear Lake area or head East to La. or Miss. People just think because it is a floating dock, they would be safe.
Hurricanes Ike and Harvey did a lot worse damage than Beryl, but they were higher category hurricanes and had higher surge.
We have a boat on Clear Lake and the marinas did pretty good compared to the last 2 big hurricanes.
The images of a burned out ship are most certainly not from the super yacht that went up in flames. The Blohm & Voss Dock Elbe is actually in Hamburg and not Rendsburg which is about 105 km away. I actually worked for about 2 months back in 1972 in that particular dock.
Blohm & Voss are nowadays owned by Luersen.
You are correct. I guess it is showing the right yacht but Esysman names the wrong location. That Dock in the picture is in Hamburg. Was there last weekend
It may be that the burnt hull was transported to Hamburg after the fire but still the picture is not showing Vegesack.
Let me clarify for you: the picture that you refer to shows the burnt down mega yacht SASSI (which later became OPERA), and she burnt indeed down in Bremen, Vegesack ans was transported with the whole floating dry dock to Hamburg and then later moved in another dock at Blohm & Voss! He shows this image in the video in connection with the fact that there were already major fires in the past. But I think using this image on the thumbnail is just pure clickbait, and it has nothing to do with the newer fire.
@@atthebreakwaters you are a few days late with your "clarification" as eSysman already explained everything in another video
Wow! Thanks.
Question: in a assembly hall such as Lürsen's, would the building itself be metal and more or less fireproof? Would its "wharehouse" typically hold only parts needed for current build, or would they store parts for multiple builds past the current one?
Would the fire have been fed by the ship being built because of all the materials in it?
Or would this fire be more about the work site itself (blow/welding torches and tanks, paint, varnishes, thinnners, cleaners etc ?
Curious on why fire would have burned for so long. welding cyclinders would blow and quickly burn out, so if it lasted a long time, it means there was stuff that burned slowly in there. (plastics, CFRP, wood).
fiberglass doesn't burn easily but apparently when it does, it's nasty.
Esysman you are saying the yacht from 2018 burnt in Vegesack. The picture is clearly showing a dock in Hamburg so please check again if that is correct. Some viewers from Germany have noticed. Thanks
@@domcp711 it was towed to Hamburg
Everything he said is correct. The yacht burnt down inside Lürssens floating dry dock at Bremen, Vegesack, and was transported within this dock to Hamburg but later floated out and moved into the dock at Blohm & Voss. Lürssens floating dry dock was then moved back to Bremen.
I need a support vessel asap😅
Tony Buzbee represented Rebecca Grossman at her Los Angeles trial for vehicular manslaughter (x2). I was in the jury pool and heard him speak. He was an excellent orator.
Respectfully, any yacht in that building is a total loss...What client/company would sign off on that vessel's delivery?
WOW! WOW! WOW!
Can you imagine what the next insurance premium will be !
I wonder if lithium batteries were involved.... 18 hours and 400 firemen....
Good one,start a rumour.
It is much more common for fuel to be the source of fires, it spreads so much easier than lithium batteries. If they’re using deep cycle lithiums such as LiPo4 they just don’t burn.
I'm sure it's just a mix up, but M/Y Launchpad alias project 1010 was built by Feadship not Oceanco.
The cause of the blaze is probably the fire.
Sorry... 😁
Yacht Fireball!
I would not be the insurance counterparty to this shipyard.
Bummer about the cyclone in Grenada , Zatara just got pulled out onto the hard , does not look good :-(
Their insurance rates are going to be crazy.
I'll just take the support yacht instead of the larger yacht because I can add submarine and Can-Am Maverick all terrain vehicles and helicopter and jet ski's plus other kind of water toys for the kids and family members and friends as well.
I understand the need for a bigger transport. In 1967 I passed my driving test in an Austin Mini car. Then I changed my apartment and needed to relocate my stuff. So I bought a bigger car, a Morris Traveller.
When I was down to my last pound due to being unemployed I used to lay awake at night wondering where my next breakfast was coming from. Then I realised that millionaires lay awake at night wondering where their next super yacht or Lear Jet is coming from so I didn't worry any more.
I'm new to the channel. It seems to me, an inland small boat sailor, that there have been a lot of fires recently. Is this normal in the big yacht world?
When I was 12 I had a honeycomb fiberglass cabin cruiser I restored and my dad helped me rebuild a outboard for it. It had a indoor/ outdoor engine and lower unit. I sealed up the hole with aluminum, fiberglass and marine plywood. I had a 175 Mercury Black Max outboard modified to about 250 🏴☠️ probably closer to 300. My dad was a Master Engineer, Aviation Specialist 101st Airborne, a X plane pilot for NASA and a Experimental Diving Instructor for the Navy and the Army. He was the Boss in Panama Central America. The pistons I used were used and had been in a fire. The motor exploded after a few times taking it out. It still ran, but only 2 cylinders. I was so mad. I paid a lot of money for the parts. My dad gave me my first fishing boat when I was 9. I grew up in the jungle and thrn on the St Croix River in St Croix Falls Wisconistan 🏴☠️ 🦅
I wonder what the buyout would be on a total loss like that? -- fyi for those who might not know, a total loss doesnt mean everything bad, in general, it means the cost of repair exceeds a threshold. That threshold may be cost of replacement or such... So when you do a buy out, you are buying whats left, it doesnt make financial sense to make back to what it was, but for some its a salvage of parts to use in other builds or projects. assuming the hull can be repaired, it can become a barge or something else
Wouldn't be surprised if it was insurance fraud. Germany not doing well these days.
even if the hull is not damaged can you imagine the smoke damage to the interior. The insides would stink of toxic smoke. I bet the insurance company is really going to dig deep into this on. If they do finally pay up the premiums for Lurssen are going up, up and away
That’s a real bummer the fire couldn’t be contained in the building where it started. Wonder if the owner will bail from Lurseen now. Damn…so close to sailing the open oceans of the world in style
According to German police the fire started in the 75 meter 100 million EUR Saudi yacht Honolulu itself. It is completely destroyed according to an employee. It is unknown when work can continue on the 2 other yachts being built there, the 114 meter Yacht Cosmos and the 103 meter yacht JassJ, both originally planned for launch in 2025.
The fire was a total surprise. It wasn't supposed to happen until they got it in the water.
Is it me or has there been a lot of superyacht fires over the last few years?
On the Lürsen fire: when you say "2 weeks from being completed", would that typically mean total completion, including towels put on the towel holders, or completed to a point where shipyard could be flooded and ship tower to competion centre where interiors would be built to a point where towels were hung on towel holders? I had once expected those big hangars to build ships right down to hanging towels, but was susrprised that in many cases, it is an early build only with the finishing donw elsewhere with ship towed from one location to the next.
There's much more limited space to do the initial construction. Once you can move it elsewhere, that's the cheapest place to finish the other stuff.
Would be interesting to hear where you have the limit between boat and Yacht, the 54 foot Azimut I would call a boat but I'm not sure where I draw the line, a Friend of mine have a 65 foot in Sweden and a 100 Foot in Spain, and somewhere between those is where I would start to call it a Yacht, maybe 75? The hurricane was really awful and destroyed a lot of properties! :(
The insurance for the industry as a whole will keep raising after this , it’s already a “hard” insurance market after the Baltimore bridge incident and numerous superyacht incidents.
In five years at Lurssen was 3 fire..
Lurssen needs to invest into Fire Springler Systems
Very much doubt it was near completion if it was 2 weeks from completion if it was still in a shed. I’ve worked on many new builds as an installer. Usually when they come out of the shed there’s a good few 6 months worth of work left at least
Probably a mistake because you have told it right before Launchpad is from feadship* not oceanco✌🏻
Yes mistake.
That’ll be a downer at the end of the summer party in Monaco!
Looks like someone changed their minds.
I wonder whether the loss of the yacht is just restricted to its build value and whether the future owner will also claim damages, which will also be in £10Ms. There will be clauses within the build contract concerning late delivery and I doubt that Force Majeure will apply as the fire was totally in the hands of the builders.
You have to wonder why the fire lasted so long and appears not to have been contained, resulting in total loss. A boat like this ought to have been compartmentalised as an intrinsic part of its design, although during the build some of that may have been naturally and temporally compromised.
The cost of a sprinkler system will seem like a bargain when they do the rebuild of the facility...
👩🚒🚒
Was there not in place, a substantial fire suppression system to immediately dampen down the fire? FMR Intelligence Officer
Wondering how much fuel it uses under full throttle?
Would have been ironic if is was “Project Maui” 😬
Have to slightly disagree with the support vessel use. They make a lot of sense to take away from the main vessel all noisy and sometimes dangerous operations, especially those linked to helicopter, they also allow to organize time better leaving the support vessel crew deal with toys like inflatable pool, slide (against jellyfish) while the main vessel travel to the next anchorage...
More importantly they are great to host people you have to invite even if you don't want to (like your step family ;)
Getting stuck on a boat with Zuckerburgh is a nasty thought. Just ain't enough money for that.
Wow..The insurance business can have some very BAD DAYS.
Lithium batteries are probably the reason for the fire, they are completely unstable and once alight the fire cannot be extinguished
Where do you get 400 firefighters from in one area 😮
It seems that Larsen needs to invest Heavily into some type of Fire Suppression System. Water, Foam ..For Their Buildngs. Seems that The owners of Lurssen have no clue. 🤔🥴
Imagine making THAT call to the insurance company
Beryl must have sucked the drain plugs right out of that yacht in Galveston.
I guess they didn't learn their lesson the first time
Project Honolulu, that's four years of hard, painstaking effort disappeared down the tube.
I agree with @edc1569. But I am glad nobody was hurt, such as has been reported. I think they are too crowded for the scope of their work load. I wish them well!
I think it's brilliant Mark has provided parking for his rich friends
It will take time for the shipyard to determine the cause. And you can bet there will be the nation’s version of state, local and federal fire marshals plus insurance inspectors as well as inspectors for environmental and other agencies. The shipyard will be up to its neck with investigators.
I wonder how long their orders book actually is?
Like going to the DMV.
@@TheMoneypresident The second-hand market's flourishing, I hear.
Looks like Robert kuok didnt want the boat or someone didn't want him to have it
Or you can advert the video altogether 😊
Their insurance is going to be sky high with a second incident like this.
If pain had an image it would be that thumbnail
If yachts burn like paper one should seriously question their safety.. 😮😮😮😮😮
Suspicious fires.
Russia hands for shore...
Russia hands for sure...
Every casual thinks a fire is suspicious. You have to be gullible to think Russians would do this, especially if you can't back it up with sound reasoning.
18 hours of fire. That rich boys toy is charcoal.
Have you ever readed the story lucky Jim the pick up truck
You building $200 million yachts and you have no up to date extinguisher systems. Its amazing how secretive Lurssen is about their dockyard disasters.
That's not gonna buff out
Imagine having paid 70% in installments already on project Honolulu. just the sheer annoyance of getting the funds back through insurance claims, and then wait a few years more before your project will be finished, instead of 6 months of a year (was 80% complete)
Better to lose a DINGY that a real yacht.
Oh dear, how sad, never mind..............
Of course it’s sad. Many people and trades benefit from such a yacht.
. enter steig larson , “ a man on fire walked away “ .
The lithium batteries are unstable, any kind of heat/damage they will catch fire and never go out.
Sounds like that would be outstanding for arson
i wonder if Lurssen's premium will go up?
Twice??? That shipyard as it is currently operated is now uninsurable
The salient question is who's karma is so bad that thier four year build of a mega yacht burns up two weeks before completion? Who was it being built for?
@@brianhearden459 I would really like to know as well who the yacht belonged to
Two weeks to launch and you couldn’t slide it down the ways and into the water to escape the fire?Tow it away to safety? Two weeks to launch and most new yachts are sitting on a cradle waiting to slide down the ways and into the water.
Great channel 👏
Insurance.
Just funny but lately I observe many fires in and around Yachts. Do you report more often about such accidents or Is this something which happens more often lately ?
Sorry but unless the material of that hull was heat resistant titanium I could not see buying a yacht that had been exposed to that extreme temp. I would suspect that it would be like "quenching" a metal blade and could make it either strong or extremely brittle.
No word on the cause? Heat, fuel and oxygen. Mystery solved.
