My mister was a roller coaster of a ride, even made me cry, really enjoyed the show and it make me respect IU as an actor. Thanks for the recommendations will check them out 😊
About My mister I have a theory 😁Let's remember that the drama talks a lot about Buddhism and other lives... I think that's the point, she even says that she is 3,000 years old and that in her next life she wants to be born in the neighborhood where he lives... They are soul mates ! 😍 but soul mates do not always stay together. Your soul mate is someone who helps you to evolve in this lifetime. And that's exactly what they both did to each other.
I absolutely love this theory! And I think your right. In this life their souls didnt need romance from each other but they still need and complement each other. In the next or the last they were lover
My Mister is my favorite drama of all time, because it's so moving, so well written, gives the story and character time to develop and moments in scenes time to show subtlety. The acting, direction, writing and music are simply on the highest level. There's nothing else that reaches that level in all of its categories, unfortunately, making what to watch next a real problem lol. I agree with Because It's My First Life. Great choice. Different tone from My Mister, but it is moving in spots and well done, and is not your usual K-drama. The show you need though is Signal. Drop everything and go watch it. I have seen it a few times, and it was my all-time favorite along with My Mister. Still is, but another viewing of My Mister placed it on top. You have to watch Signal. Literally Signal, My Mister and Miaseng are all must watch K-drama - and - it shouldn't be a surprise - all have the same director, so all reach the same level.
totally agree: Misaeng my Mister and Signal - blew me away each in different way. DP i must admit was a good discovery. i have a soft spot for Goblin (my secret!) . and yes Because its my first life is also excellent
Thank you for this video. I always looks for dramas that have a same vibe with My Mister and I agree with all of your recommended that I watched especially Mr Sunshine, it is one of my faves too, I add Doctor John, Hopital Playlist, Reply 1988, Prison Playbook, Mother, Defendant and Kill me heal me in your list. I wish more dramas like them exist.
I'm hoping to check out Extracurricular soon, sounds really interesting! Also, you're right--psychopath is not a term found in the DSM, meaning that a patient cannot be diagnosed as a 'psychopath'. Sociopath and psychopath are essentially catch-all terms used to denote different types/degrees of behavior in a person. What is diagnosable is Antisocial Personality Disorder, and those referred to as socio/psychopaths frequently have this--and other--disorders. I should note, I do not have a psychology degree, but learned this information from Dr. Ramani Durvasula, a clinical psychologist frequently featured on the YT channel MedCircle; she specializes in narcissism and has worked with these types of personalities for several decades. Anyway, all that aside, I really liked the way you put this video together, also thinking to check out My Liberation Notes because of your other review!
@@MarieMaurerKdramaReview I’m waiting for your review on this. Maybe you’ll think that it’s spoon feeding the viewers it’s emotion too. A beautiful, poignant, cathartic watch IMO. I’m recommending it to people but also afraid people will bash it (see your comments re: Misaeng above)
based on the dramas i've watched from this list and the way you talked about them I trust your drama opinions about the other ones with my life lol also may I recommend One Spring Night and Chocolate I feel like they could fit into the category of this video perfectly
Lovely list. I like Because it’s my first life too. Very gentle, fun but still kinda realistic. Maybe you could check out One spring night and Familiar wife. These 2, besides My mister, are also my favo. Tbh, they can’t live up to My mister, for me, but they’re definitely worth checking out!!!
Someone suggested "Goblin" to me.. so I'm highly recommending it to everyone else who hasn't yet watched it. My Mister was my favorite K Drama but "Goblin" made me rethink everything lol They're not similar in storyline, but they're extremely similar in emotional impact. Your life feels changed when it's over
Misaeng is a good, but not great, show. FWIW. I reserve the truly great category They are #1 Mr. Sunshine, and #2 My Mister. They are the only two shows that make it in that group.
@@garyguyton7373 really 😂😂. Wow, people are really different. I have been trying to get past episode 5 of Mr sunshine and I couldn't. I will try and give it another chance. Misaeng blew my mind away. You are the only person I know that didn't like it. Am petty, so I will pretend I didn't see that 😄😄😫
Because of you, I’m now midway through episode 2 of Incomplete Life and loving it! It’s such a mystery-why did the executive director hire him, how/when will his special skills be realized and appreciated, will he get the pretty girl who has been helpful to him, is that one intern who’s been decent to him the real deal or will he turn out be a jerk like the others... Thanks, Marie!
hey Marie: so we finished Something in the Rain. First of all, yes its a good show, very good acting all round, beautiful production values and definite slow burner. the ost is magical although not enough songs so had the feeling heard the same song 3, 4 times an episode. Leads, especially our lead Son Ye-jin is honestly exceptional - quality of acting is out of this world. however, im my opinion the writing runs out of steam and character arc’s become ill defined, repetitive and in the end, somewhat unsatisfactory. Which should not deter anyone from watching because despite some peeves and irritations, the show really does try to explore complex family, social & work relationships. The interpersonal relationship i enjoyed but it might not be everyone’s cuppa tea…. without giving away spoilers. The fundamental dynamic of older woman you younger guy is rendered well - the difficulties vis a vis Korean society mores and family expectations can be hard to fathom (which is also its strength) sometimes and i believe often get lost in translations. very good show which aims high but falls short i feel because writing lost its way. But memorable because of Son Ye jin, and yeah Jung Hae In is great too 👍😂
Sometimes i feel like u may be a reincarnation of Jane Austin who was born again in modern day and accidentally fell in love with Korean dramas. :)) Maybe after 20 years later, some western students might be listening to a lecture of professor Marie on Kdrama analysis class in some university of Canada. Kkk👩🎓😊🙃
ok so based on your recommendation I watch Because the is my first life. i didn’t binge because i liked to take the slow pace of the characters and storyline. considering how beautifully and subtly written (most) of the main characters are (as you said “give them time to exist”) Enjoyed the show, the characters, the production values (not in your face), an ost that takes step back and doesn’t oversell - in fact this is something i liked overall - the show didn’t plug too many product or fashion - what a relief. the show is about the characters, the narrative arc and evolution. i haven’t seen the original japanese show but my better half really liked the japanese version. i encourage you all to give this show time & patience. it did not knock me over like My Master or Signal or Misaeng or Goblin or the amazing Reply 1988 - i don’t want to say it is more realistic, but it does address complex social issues and especially the position of young women in South Korean society, with a gentle tender force. it doesn’t hit you over the head but its just great writing. kudos. for me and please don’t hate me, its a Sex & the City about three female best friends who are navigating complex social, professional and personal lives - without the sex 🤣. Really enjoyed it. so now need a break and move onto another slow burn. thanks for the recommendation - these characters and their books and musings on love & life will remain close to my heart for a long time I think. lead female character is fabulous.
Reply 1988.....i found it unwatchable, and I can sum up why in one sentence. The production team, especially the writers, managed to take 45 - 60 minutes of great content and cram it into 90 minutes screen time, giving us a plodding, boring slogfest. People really are surprisingly different in taste, which comes as no surprise actually. I didn't finish it, continued it once because I was told I had no idea what I was missing, stopped again about halfway through. No, I'm not going back to it, and haven't started any of the other Reply shows. The title alone stops me.
defnitely in the Kdrama realm, different taste can be ´Very different’. but i hear you concerning the long 75-80 min episodes. Some are overly long - its a question of format, time slots, advertising in Korea. Reply 88 (i didn’t watch the other spin offs) is quite unique in its mix of tone: melodrama romance slice of life slapstick comedy drama! all in one episode and then across 16 episodes! its a total roller coaster so it you don’t « buy in » I can imagine its exhausting, maybe even annoying. For us (family watched it together) the characters / families (adults neighbours & kids) grew on us and we really became very attached to their lives & stories. Plus it has a « working class vibe » that was a pleasant change from the Mercedes Range Rover driven shows elsewhere. But you know, you gotta go with what you like. Plus Reply is a korean production pre Netflix, made for Korean & asian audience well before the kdrama phenomena wanted to prepare content for export. so the storylines & tone are more for audience used to kdrama codes.
@@johnhernan9238 it's my understanding that Reply 1988 had a lot of inside humor that non-Koreans uneducated in the culture f the time just would never understand. I believe it. Not bad enough to be called annoying, but definitely boring. MMDidV. I really loved Because This Is My First Life. It's a show you could sit down, watch, immediately understand and empathize with. Very well done. My personal all time favorite is Mr. Sunshine. It's a completely opposite show, where one Can't just sit back and absorb the action. Way too much going on. But having given the show the attention I think it deserves, I found the payoff was incredible. I've come to believe it isn't for everyone. Just as Reply isn't.
