You mentioned in a previous video that flying your aircraft was like flying a kite. WW1 Royal Air Force pilots did refer to their aircraft as a kite. And did so for many years later.
Are you Henry from MxR Plays? /s I do agree though, the sound of the rounds breaking the sound barrier over Growling's head were amazing... and terrifying.

Hey GS, I’d love to see more IL-2 content with Longshot where you two are in a crew together in a plane (ie : pilot and tailgunner etc.) with all the shenanigans that happen with you two I’m sure it would be super entertaining to watch.
We mostly see WW1 in grainy as hell, uneven, shaky, sped-up, low res footage. It emotionally insulates us from how horrible the conflict was. The little details make it come alive in the worst way.
These dogfights are scary. If you get hit you’re dead. I guess it was better than the trenches. Living in the mud was not fun in my Marine Corps days. Semper Fi.
According to all accounts I've read, living conditions for the pilots in ww1 were head and shoulders above what the grunts had to deal with. One of the indicators is the almost complete absence of mention of disease.

These videos that you put out are FANTASTIC!! The realism is off the chain! Not too mention, you Sir, are not only an amazing pilot, but a most deadly one!! I TRULY would not wish to face you in the air....FATAL MISTAKE
Great dogfights; it's really scary to see the enemy planes breaking into pieces right in front of you, with the bullets passing by your head, it's great!.
love that you highlighted the eyes of the first downed pilot. If he was flying an Albatros, that explains why it was able to withstand so many rounds--the Albatros fuselage was made of plywood, not canvas.
I also love the WWI dogfight VR. Because of the materials of the biplanes, this makes the real targets the engine or the pilot, This makes the fighting up close and, yeah " it's the closest thing to an aerial knife fight..."
We do love the vr videos my dude! I watch you anytime I get a chance to. we can basically see your body movement and you're so immersed into it, which makes me immersed.
Amazing video as always. Sturmovic is my favourite flight combat sim offering WWI content for my Cosmos. I just wish I was half the pilot you are. Reconnaissance flying, like all kinds, was a hazardous business. In April 1917, the worst month for the entire war for the RFC (Royal Flying Corps), the average life expectancy of a British pilot on the Western Front was 69 flying hours.
I bought IL-2 after your suggestion. Wow! Soo much fun! I can hardly take off because I know nothing about flying planes and cause my aircraft to stall out and flat spin all the time….. but still fun!!!!
@@GrowlingSidewinder the hardest part for me so far has been taxiing to the run way. Once I unlock the tail wheel I just start spinning on the ground. I haven’t quite figured out how to control that so I just spin enough times to get in the direction I want to go then lock the tail wheel! 😂🤣😅
Best content on here. The WW1 planes are just more captivating, followed closely by WW2, etc. The "Scouts" (generally the term for the two seaters with rear gunners) were hugely dangerous and often attacked from underneath when possible.
Scouts initially were light, fast and unarmed recon aircraft that at the beginning of the war have been armed with machine guns. The term stayed until the early 20s and basically describes a single seated fighter during WWI on hte British side. Then there was the Sopwith Scout, named Pup by the aircrew (just like the Fighting Falcon is called Viper), because it looked like a puppy of the 1 1/2 strutter, which often was called Scout, even though that was a 2 seater. The Bristol Scout also was a single seater. Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter, Bristol Fighter and other two seaters actually were called "fighter" back then until that became the general term also for the scouts.
Ablatros D.III and/or D.V, Pfalz D.III, Fokker D.VII. Can't be that specific on the 2-seaters, but they look like Albatros models. The plane GS is in is a Nieuport 28, which had a habit of shedding the fabric of the upper wing when pulling out of a dive.

This is the reason I might lay out the cash for a high-end rig. DCS in jets is just too much of a learning curve for me, but this? You can just jump in and go;.no complex systems to master. It's the right mix of realism and entertainment IF you have some flight sim experience, imo.
I was thinking the same, but decided to jump into DCS (I fly just WW2) and was quite suprised it really is not that difficult. The cockpits are fully clickable so you just need to bind same stuff as for any other sim (throttle, pitch, roll, ruder, looking, map...) and then you can just press butons in the cockpit and don'T have to bind everything as in IL2 for example... IT can take lot of time to trully master, but if you decide to just kinda jump in head on you can be flying within hours... but I would do it only if you think you might like it and keep playing continuously. For some quick action here and there without thinking more arcade stuff is of course way to go. Just wanted to say, that it's not that scarry of a beast as it looked to me at first...
You are right, this WW1 stuff is the best. And the N 28 is my fave WW1 fighter, one good looking bird. You got lucky a couple times going after those 2 seaters from 6:00. Mcudden got loads of them from 6:00 LOW, stay under the tail. Helps to have a Lewis gun on a rail that adjusts for angle.
Haha, indeed. I love the Tomcat most of the modern aircraft as it still require some rudder control. Just made my exams for ULL where it is crucial as well.
