I had a girlfriend tell me one time that she thought I had a gambling problem when I was late for some family gathering thing because I was up late playing a tournament the night before. And she said it in front of her family, probably parroting some BS her mom told her, which really pissed me off. I said, oh now it's a problem. It's never a problem when I take you and your sisters shopping all day, or when your mom needs a new set of tires, or when I take all of y'all to dinner at Ruth's Chris every time you come into town. I didn't hear anyone bitching about it then.
Needless to say, we weren't meant to be.

Are poker tournaments really gambling?
They are a tournament like any other. The same as any other tourney, such as pool, darts, chess, etc. There is a buy in fee, and the rest is up to the game.
Now cash games are a different story. That is gambling, since you are betting real money, but a tournament, the object is to get all the chips, and values are just a way of keeping score.

Not advocating for the play itself but Just because 44 happened to make 'middle pair' doesn't mean he's betting for value obviously; in his case donking it all. Klein clearly thought he was 100% toast which is why he bet what he did with the 44. Kinda weird analysis of it honestly.

I don't know if you guys do, but maybe with the tournament winners, you include something like your spin on WPT Bracelet. Perhaps a 1-ounce Custom silver poker chip. I know some companies will do pressings for you. The trophy is cool and all but everyone does a trophy and I hate to point it out but one of the trophies looks like a buttplug. Not trying to be mean just wanting to throw out a friendly idea.

Also, there are some advantages to playing in a loose cannon style. EVERYONE plays by the book and knows about poker game theory. I wouldn't be surprised if every pro hasn't read nearly every book written about it. Doing odd things like not raising right or playing hands that shouldn't be played can throw people off. Granted, there is a chance you will lose your ass, but you also get moments like when Hellmuth gets super upset when he gets beat by someone playing a hand they shouldn't.

About 25k is what a poker player should have in the roll to play 2-5 NL, and that is the lowest limit that many players agree that it is possible to support a family playing, this is why I think 25k starting point would make for a really fun bankroll challenge
