People generally think of Simon and Garfunkel's original as a warning and Disturbed's version as anger that the warning wasn't heeded. “One of the biggest hang-ups we have today is the inability of people to communicate, not only on an intellectual level, but on an emotional level as well. If I recall correctly, Paul Simon actually thinks David Draiman and Disturbed did the best version of the song. Even better than his original version. Such a powerful version of this amazing song! David Draiman, the lead singer of Disturbed, is a trained cantor and has an incredible voice. They are known as a heavy metal rock band. Great reaction as always 💜💜
When you witness suppression of others and do not raise your voice against it you are participating in the sound of silence. Help when you can. Be aware that not everyone is as *lucky* as you are. Ignoring other people's troubles will only add to your *own.* History is no mystery.
I just found you tonight. Seeing that you served.. My daughter is in the Air Force. It doesn't matter to me if you saw battles, or were logistics. I have NO idea, and it doesn't matter. I thank you for you service sir! Your service to this country, whatever it was you did, was an INSTANT Subscription from me. I thank you again, for whatever role you played in keeping our country a free and democractic society! ❤ I hope that wasn't too much, but truly.. Thank you.
And to think David Draiman is actually a metal rock singer. Although he has also covered “Land of Confusion” and that’s also good 👍. If you want to hear a good one that he wrote and not too heavy try to listen to his newer song called “Don’t Tell Me” a duet with Ann Wilson. If you want to jam out to a heavier one listen to “Down with the Sickness” or “The Game”

@@paulschmehl2124 -- Aye indeed.. Disturbed has a music video that opens with a recreation of that day. But I think one of his lyrics that really hit home this week for me was "Don't let hope become a memory" ..
Disturbed is by far one of my favorite bands... and his rendition of a classic song that I grew up listening to... was awesome... the live version of it is even more amazing... but he has one heck of a voice... and I love it.
I do not call this a cover song. It is an experience and stands on its own merit. Cover or not, Doesnt matter. It is its own power and emotion. If you don't get chills, or emotional or tears then there is something seriously wrong with you. He goes from a voice that rocks you gently like Angel wings fluttering and then growls that is so intense it grabs your soul. We are 77 and 80. Tears and goosebumps each time we listen. David Draiman possesses an impressive vocal range that spans over three octaves, ranging from a low of E2 to a high of C6. Amazing!
My brother has been in the Navy for 22 years, he's currently in Poland overseeing the activated Naval Support base there. It's named Redzikowo, and it has the Aegis Land Missle System there, which my brother knows inside and out. This is his third year in Poland.
Thank you for your service sir. My dad was in the navy on an aircraft carrier in Vietnam for about 3 years. My grandfather was in ww2 in Europe he was in 5 major battles including normandy. My father is still alive and well. My grandfather passed july 4th 1999 on my birthday July 4th 1981. Thank you so much for all you have done.
My take on this - We all have our own demons and we try to lock them into a soundproof room to keep them silent. Things happen in our lives that will touch that silence and stir our demons back to life. If you have lived with these demons, you know their silence can be the loudest scream. I can't even begin to imagine the type of demons our soldiers bring home with them. **I loved your video, but damn you made me miss my Daddy. He was a hella man same as you.
Check out Disturbed's song, The Light. It's a song about finding hope when you are in the depths of despair. The official video tells the story pretty well.

Thank you for your service! I've loved Simon & Garfunkel's version of this song since i was a girl. I was so excited to hear Disturbeds' version since i don't normally listen to that type of rock. I was floored, how the song builds to the conclusion, outstanding. 👍 Thanks for the review. 😎
Almost 18k subscribers LOVE you Paul. Interesting choice by Disturbed hard to cover one of the greatest songs ever written with sort of a hard rock flare to it. Truth be told I heard it from Disturbed first and my Dad (an old geezer) smiled & chuckled b/c I had never heard of Simon & Garfunkel. That said its kind of cool when a band honors a great song & I suppose my generation would say did it justice with a decent performance while introducing people to a legendary song.
In this age of social media, instant texting, and instant information the phrase "people talking without speaking" reminds me of texting. The phrase "people hearing with listening" reminds me social media where everyone voices there opinions but never listen consider others. The phrase "people bowed there head and prayed to the neon god they made" reminds me of see friends sitting next to each other yet have there eyes and mind down in there phones. While we have information and communication far superior than we ever had, people seem further apart and isolated than ever. People are not just enjoying the moments in each other's company
Thank you for your reaction and for your service, sir. "Sound of Silence" is a departure from Disturbed's usual heavy metal style. I'm not sure if you would like their original work as much, though their music is still excellent.
First and foremost THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! My father faught in the Korean War navy may he rest in peace Amen and God Bless All Who may or whom are serving!! He is a trained cantor religious as well I may say You must hear his live version on Conan obrian a total GOOSEBUMP EXPERIENCE ORCHESTRA AND ALL! That’s where it really made the charts and was experienced… and made such an impact the video is great as well but you must hear the Conan version. He also helps with those whom have lost loved ones from addiction and depression as he as well struggles with he brings it to “Light” at every concert he performs and brings those and victims on his Stadge to share a and their personal story to give hope and comfort so WE MAY HEAL AND SEE A VISION TO HELP US GET THROUGH… tomorrow 🙏ing I personally have lost and struggle with the loss of.. my youngest child a yr ago age 33. I’m 63 now raising her child… been to many of his concerts CANT count the last was a few months ago…. He brings his followers together with inner peace ☮️ and a comfort if I may say
Dear Hero, thank you for standing up for our great Country. What courage. What love of Country you have shown. My Dad will be 100 years old in a few days. He was in the 82nd Airborne, 17 Division. He fought in the Battle of Bistonge (Belgium) but never talked about his duties or activities to his 12 children until very recently. Now he tells all of us, including his family and friends, and anyone who will listen, just what he experienced and saw during that time. I never realized what a true American Hero he was and still is. And to you, Sir … thank you!
The classical guitarwork all through the song is so beautiful, along with David's amazing performance. The anger was deliberate because this song was a warning back in the 60s, but no one listened, so this time its admonishing our society.
My take on the 2 versions, then and now: in the 60's version the way it was sung, conveyed the times It was written. The darkness hadn't reached it's peak 50 almost 60 years later, the darkness is here the sadness and anger is here. Many of us have lived from then till now and the words are more true now than even then. And we should be saddened and angered that people are even more isolated now, with out hope seeking escape and our society even less able to help, it's to worldly and offended to reach out to one another in time of need. Neither Hot or Cold, Luke warm.
You’d probably like one their original songs Hold on to the Memories. I discovered them with this video during Covid shutdown. I fell in love with them as I followed them down the rabbit hole. I love their heavy metal and nonmetal songs. I’m an almost 75 year old grandma from CA. Thank you for your service, Sir. I remember many of my classmates getting drafted right out of High School. My future husband came within 3 numbers of being drafted in 1970, as he was enrolled in graduate school.
Many have stated, Simon and Garfunkle version was a warning. This version is the warning was ignored. An original song they did that is exceptional, is A Reason To Fight.

Finally found a channel from my age group. The Vietnam way ended the year I graduated from high school. I have three older brothers that were of age to be drafted. I hated how the returning warriors were treated . If I would have been anywhere near an airport where they flew in I would have hugged every one of them and welcomed them home. They went through hell. So thank you for your service and I’m glad you made it home.
Thank you sir, for your service, and patriotism. I just found your reaction channel today, this video, and i hit "subscribe". I agree, Simon and Garfunkel's original, conveyed the profound message in a softer tone. David Draiman n Disturbed, has a stronger, more forceful tone, especially later in the song, because society obviously failed to heed the warning.
The song starts off in silence then we are treated to a selection of broken or buried or hidden away instruments in the trees. The musicians start gathering them but there is no music. Meanwhile on the opposite side of the river there are those who start to write the music. The musicians walk to the boat - then cross the river to ultimately team up with the writers so music is once again restored. As for all your earnest prayers - you should be old enough by now to break away from religious indoctrination.
I was here for the original, if you are old enough to remember the original then you probably know this is the same message for all generations just a different world today.

S & G were spelling out the future, there was no Tech back then as there is now, you only have to see young people these days sitting around looking down at their phones
I love Disturbed's version and like to think of it as a rightfully angry cry that we didn't heed the warning that Paul Simon had told us in the original S & G version about losing our ability to communicate with those we don't necessarily agree with. To get an even better feel of Disturbed performing this song, I suggest you watch them performing it on Conan O'Brien's show which you can see here on RUclips at: ruclips.net/video/Bk7RVw3I8eg/видео.html

Disturbed has a ton of original songs, but another one I think you might enjoy is a cover from Phil Collins/Genesis, "Land of Confusion"
“This seems angry”
David Draiman: “Hold my beer- Oh-wah-ah-ah-ah!”
lol I kid. Thanks for the reaction :)
🤣🤣
I hope that wasn't too much, but truly..
Thank you.
Thank you for raising a daughter who was inspired to serve.

Disturbed's music may be heavy at times, but David writes from a place of pain after his girlfriend had taken her life and he found her...
Ouch! That's a horrible trauma to live with.
Thank you for those very kind words.
Thank you for your service. My dad was on an aircraft carrier in Vietnam, he is my hero as you are sir
Check out Disturbed's song, The Light. It's a song about finding hope when you are in the depths of despair. The official video tells the story pretty well.

Paul Simon posted on social media that Disturbed now owned his song. Paul wrote it.
That's high praise.
It's really sad isn't it?
My uncle was a marine in Vietnam I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your service sir
Thank you for your reaction and for your service, sir. "Sound of Silence" is a departure from Disturbed's usual heavy metal style. I'm not sure if you would like their original work as much, though their music is still excellent.
The singer has an excellent voice, so I have no doubt their work is excellent.
I'm also of the Boomer generation.
Simon & Garfunkel version was a 'warning'.
Disturbed version admonishes for 'ignoring that warning'.
I have watched the Conan version. Another viewer posted the link.
Paul Simon is a visionary and try to warn us…Disturbed’s version is sadness and anger….
Dear Hero, thank you for standing up for our great Country. What courage. What love of Country you have shown. My
Dad will be 100 years old in a few days.
Silence like a cancer grows. Speak up against what is wrong, while you still have a voice. Listen to those that do, while they can.
I really like the way you listen to the whole song before you commit on it. Well done.

First of all, from one veteran to another, Thank you for your service.
This song is an experience that reaches your soul
Pure masculine energy 👍✨❤️ Hi from Finland 🙋♀️🇫🇮 Listening Wintersun from Finland 🙏🏻💪🏻🇫🇮❤️
Thank you for the sub.
From an orthidox Jewish background, he was trained as a cantor.
Oh wow! Thanks for that tidbit.
Thank you for your service Dear Sir! Great reaction!!
Thank you.
Thank you Sir.😊
The song starts off in silence then we are treated to a selection of broken or buried or hidden away instruments in the trees. The musicians start gathering them but there is no music. Meanwhile on the opposite side of the river there are those who start to write the music. The musicians walk to the boat - then cross the river to ultimately team up with the writers so music is once again restored.
As for all your earnest prayers - you should be old enough by now to break away from religious indoctrination.
I broke away from religious indoctrination decades ago.
I was here for the original, if you are old enough to remember the original then you probably know this is the same message for all generations just a different world today.
Thank you sir for your service.

Welcome home and ty for your service
Thank you for being such a gentleman. It's a rare trait these days.
Thank you for the kind words.
I love this version and David Draimen as a singer
However, I don't think you want to hear their other songs. ❤😊
Actually smashing good rendition - prophetic vision of censorship of music, etc.
I'm sorry but that was a fanastic cover. I'm 74 years old and listened to tousands of songs and place this cover in my three songs, not just covers.
Try Disturbs “ Down with the sickness”. Also Paul Simon liked this version of his song.

I feel a lot of biblical overtones in this song. I think he was portraying the anger that God might have for the neon God's they made and prayed to. Just my take. Blessings
