As someone who has seen this movie already I don’t know if this is a return to horror. To me this felt like a straight up thriller with very minor horror elements but definitely not enough to consider this horror.
Not horror at all. He said it was different from anything he’s done before. We thought it was great entertainment because the over the top trailers led us to believe this was spoofing the cliches of serial killer thrillers. Suspense. And a zillion improbabilities. The preposterous concept: a serial killer who’s chopped up 12 people in 7 years with #13 in his basement treats his daughter to a 20,000 seat pop concert where an FBI profiler has figured out he’s a man, one of 3,000 in the arena. 5,392 SWAT trucks swarm the place with everything but tanks. The bumbling, excited numbskull vendor blabs all the details of the sting, The Trap, to a total stranger. We know right off the bat Hartnett is The Butcher by his smiling to menacing facial expression. We know ALL of this in the trailers. Why would anyone think M Knight had written a serious cat and mouse thriller ?! Hartnett said in an interview that M Knight thought some of the scenes were hilarious. We did, too! Hartnett’s psychopathic split personality was delightfully over the top in some scenes, straight-faced in others. In the last frame in the van he’s solid gold. We were grinning ear to ear. Lest people think this movie is not tongue-in-cheek humor, he stops the credits to bring in Jamie, shocked that he has been talking to The Butcher: “I’m never gonna talk to anybody ever again!” I mean c’mon people, M Knight says he requires an audience to THINK as well as be entertained. And hubs and I think he told us that right from the trailers. I will agree to one complaint and that’s the awful miscast of Saleka in a speaking role. She can’t do camp, let alone Acting 101. I was embarrassed for her. Doting Dad blew it. Broke the tone, overwrote her part. Cringe. Despite that, we really like the last-act reveal in the pie-eating scene. Hartnett and Pill were terrific. We give it 4* enthusiastically!
Yeah, that bugged me quite a lot. It felt like it was all a contrived vehicle to promote his daughter's music.. And all of her line reads felt like 3rd rehearsal reads, or like someone was holding a card off camera for her to read off of.
His daughter was good in the movie her character actually had purpose and her pop star role performance was believable. The movie was a good solid M Night thriller. There's a couple of things that are less believable that happen but it's a movie. And Josh Hartnett carries the whole thing really well. It's a good movie.
I think a lot of people weren’t paying attention while watching this movie. For hubs and I, Hartnett’s over the top facial expressions while talking with Jamie (revealing the sting going down to a complete stranger) in the trailers and the PG-13 rating told us this film was going to be a hoot. No Twist, no mystery, not like “Anything I’ve done before,” he said. And it IS a hoot! A tremendously entertaining spoof of the genre. We saw it twice just to catch all the comedic elements in it. 😊
Trap should’ve been a Halloween: H20 sequel where Hartnett’s John Tate discovering Michael Myers is terrorizing a concert in Haddonfield, and battles him to save his daughter, as The FBI are setting a trap for The Shape. Pretty Much Halloween crossed with Die Hard.
I understand the criticism, and I agree with some of the points, but this was absolutely different than anything else that he’s done simply for the fact that it did not rely on a huge twist at the end.
True....but that's literally it. He's the one that came up with the whole medical trials exposition dump part, and the characters and everything. In the book it's just a couple people, and it never explains why the beach ages people.
the whole movie is just so he's daughter can boost her singing carrier. there is no horror. no death, just his daughter singing. and when I mean just her singing, they play ever song of hers all the way through. it's a movie about his daughter singing.
I saw the trailer for this film, and it gave me 30 days of night vibes all over again, absolutely perfect casting for the role, considering he can play both sides almost perfectly!
Hitchcockian PG-13 thriller, not a horror film. The trailer was better than the movie. No twist outside of the basic premise that the trailer gives away, so don’t go in hoping for more than meets the eye. M Night’s daughter can’t act and her overbloated part greatly weakens the entire third act. The film is brimming with Shyamalan’s signature bizarrely wooden dialogue and NPC-exposition line deliveries. Speaking of video games, the movie played out exactly like watching someone play a level in Hitman, complete with impossibly fast costume changes.
As he said there would be. No Big Twist. The trailers also showed us how intentionally comedic it would be. Yay, M Knight! We loved it! (Uh, except your doting daddy casting almost tanked the last act.🥴)
That's not the kind of nervous she is projecting. That would require acting skills. He meant she looks really awkward and uncomfortable on stage as a performer. She performs like she acts. Horribly.
Personally, I gave up on Night after he screwed me over with Glass!! What a waste of a wonderful back door sequel idea, but his writing on it was atrocious and the acting was pedestrian. It's too bad, too. He is clearly a talented film maker.
That one movie where that grandchildren visit their grandparents was pretty good. But other than that, I just can’t get into Shamalon’s movies. I kind of want to see this because the bad guy is the main character. And Josh Hartnett is a good actor.
Trap is like we're officially trapped in a concert giving us twists and turns discovering of Josh Harnett became the butcher butchering his career with that especially WB got BUTCHED by a bastard of David Z in ruining the company his own way. He needs to go forever. And that movie will not getting any redemption by M. Night's career even 2 failures since The Last Airbender and After Rebirth (Earth). (facepalm) WB, fire David Z before it's too late.
I’m just happy to see Josh back in leading roles and mainstream movies. I just wish it was a better written story. Hope he can continue to get more roles and movies.
“I spend about 90% of my time with my family. Making films doesn’t define me.” Josh Hartnett. He’s been making a movie or tv series (UK) every year since he left Hollywood Hunkdom and walked away from the limelight doing some great independent films for 20+ years. He picks what roles he wants to play and/or directors he wants to work with. He’s a multimillionaire living in the English countryside with his English wife and 4 kids. Can you tell my hubs and I are major fans?😊
The completely unhinged behaviour of the other parent was just bizarre. She just seemed psychotic in her reactions when he was like "K, going to head back inot the show now, let's talk about it later". And there were too many parts where Raven is suddenly given all this responsibility to catch a serial killer, and that suddenly she's an expert in talking him down because she had a chat to the profiler. Kind of interesting take on using social media and fame to help stop a killer, but ultimately felt a little empty. Kind of wish they'd been able to do more with the ending. It was not helped by being PG-13. Let him get a bit graphic and gory. Show more murders. Even if it was flashes of his victims' bodies appearing in the stadium, like they kept doing with his mother. It's definitely not M Night's worst (leave that to The Happening, After Earth, or A:TLA), but there was so much more that could have been done to make it an amazing time. Even a classic M Night twist would have been fun, like "oh shit, his wife and kids are in on it too *dun dun DUUUUUN*".
Which Mom? The one whose daughter is bullying Riley on social media and excluding her from parties? The only other Mom is the one sitting down with her husband while he’s eating pie.
The spoilers ruin nothing, the movie was only good in the first half, the movie as a whole is pretty bad and M.Night shouldn't cast his kids if he wants it to be good. You can easily tell shes not an actor and it takes away from the story.
The twist is that this is a movie about a serial killer who actually doesn’t do what a serial killer should be doing. A movie that should’ve been rated R instead of pg13 and not having to hold back on creative freedom. 😂 Otherwise, Josh Hartnett did really well with what he had
Didn’t the PG-13 rating tip you off to something? And he said he’d never done this kind of movie before. After watching the trailers, we knew the movie would be a parody!

I went to see a thriller about finding a serial killer and ended up having to watch a shameless attempt to showcase SHAMalan's daughter pretending that she's Taylor Swift. I've never felt so deceived by a movie and frankly SHAMalan should be blacklisted by Hollywood as he was after making The Last Airbender. Don't waste your money on this fraud.
I was saying to my Mrs after watching the film, why is the signing parts so unnecessarily long . Googled the actress and find out with is a song writer and artist. Makes so much sense now as to why half the film was focused on her singing. The cynic in me believes this film was created to promote his daughter's career nothing more . and why was the concert during the day ?
@@augustusplays7896 well thats unfortunate. I thought it looked decent from the trailer, but they can be deceiving. I guess i cant expect much from M Night anymore.
Because he always has a twist in his movies and while I’m watching the movie, I’m like it would have been better if the trailer didn’t show us that he’s the killer. I didn’t see no twist in the movie maybe when he came out to the profile as the killer but

His last watchable film was Glass but his last good film was The Village in my opinion. If he had retired after making that, he would've gone down as one of the greatest filmmakers in cinema with those first 4 entries.
@@jimbaker5110 Sarah Paulson & Samuel L. were some of the strongest performances in the movie, Bruce was also trying again (his last film where he was actually decent), it was at least watchable in large part thanks to the amazing cast.
I'll pass. I like Hartnett and I haven't given up all the way on Shyamalan yet but I can't abide even a second of the horrible music genre that the film depicts, let alone a whole movie featuring it. I wouldn't be able to shut it out.
The only reason he's still allowed the budget to make more movies is because people keep going to the theater expecting him to return to form. He won't. For the love of cinema, please stop going to see his movies.
I thought people were going to see what happens....I don't think anyone expects him to return to form at this point, but most of his flops are super entertaining flops.
They played the trailer before Twisters. As soon as I seen Josh's face I told my girl "scary movie". I dig Josh. Was glad to see him in a new trailer but as soon as I read M. Knight, I said "sh*t"
I agree with everything that was said, except if add plot conveniences that happened to keep the story going, got annoying quick. I'd good it a 2 or 2.5/5
Just saw it so you don't have to. Don't waste your time and money. The ending fell flat on its face. "The killer gets caught and arrested at the end"? Really? More mass appeal, good-guy-wins-bad-guy-loses feel-good by-the-numbers saccharine-sweet crap? Incredibly disappointing from M. Night Shyamalan. For a director renowned for his clever twist endings, he didn't exactly bring his A-game here. I could easily write at least two different endings that would have played far better: one where the Butcher is part of the "supers" introduced in Glass (e.g. his psychopathy is a hidden psychological superpower perfectly adapted for predating on modern man), and one where his story is separate from that timeline. Either way, M. Night Shyamalan got paid far too much to churn out a morality tale doing its best to pose as a thriller.
It's not hate, it's objectively bad story writing and cinematography. If you were consistently bad at your job, sprinkled with a few successes, you wouldn't have a very good reputation either? Think critically, please.
Haters gonna hate) Yes, they want to match their patterns and hates when someone did some original moves. This dude 25 years writes fun clanky dialogues in his world and still some people think it's unintentionally funny and stupid) Being critical to your patterns also important to being critical)
“Return to horror” what do you mean. Every film he has done since The Happening has been horror/thriller lol. By the reviews for this movie though and it’s awful PG-13 rating. Just another strike for M. Night in the bad movie category.
trap was starting off really good into that 3th act in the movie and it just falls apart smh its like Shyamalan don't no how to stop adding up so much plots into one movie and just stay in one tone stop bring in more characters that wasn't needed in this film that was just taking way from the main characters the father and daughter relationship.and my god his daughter sucks as a actor why did he put her as a main character thinking this will help her real life music career its just made her look even worse he didn't do his daughter any great favorites being in this movie. it was so close to being the best film he's ever made but he just kept add to the film things that wasn't needed it and its a flop he just never leans to pull back and stop over doing his films fuck so close to being great it was a great idea but when he comes up with good ideas he turns the story into shit smh lol
The Twist is getting trapped watching M Nights real Daughter songs all of them 😂😂😂 she is a horrible actress as well. M Night shyamalan's daughter is as bad an actress as Will Smith's kid

This script feels like it’s written by AI
First half was pretty good and interesting, but we saw the best parts in the trailer.
Second half was an illogical mess.
His last watchable film was Glass but his last good film was The Village in my opinion. If he had retired after making that, he would've gone down as one of the greatest filmmakers in cinema with those first 4 entries.
Split, Sixth Sense and that BeCh Movie where the people ,got old very fast were all the good movies he ever made
Old was not a good movie in my opinion, the acting was awful, the writing was awful, the twist while neat in it's idea was horrible in execution.
@@LesterNygaaard Glass was horrible. Stop it. samuel L sucked in that movie lol
@@jimbaker5110 Sarah Paulson & Samuel L. were some of the strongest performances in the movie, Bruce was also trying again (his last film where he was actually decent), it was at least watchable in large part thanks to the amazing cast.
@@thetalentof Bro your taste and judgement in cinema is so wildly off I don’t know what to tell you.
I giving Trap 5 out of 10, but 'get your tickets now' 🤣!
Long live the Faculty!!!
Josh is good. but the movie sucks
The only thing horrifying was the script..
0:11 true no twist. No big reveal 5:11 poor editing maybe 3 to 5 minutes made the difference
This movie was a way for M Night to promote his daughter's singing career.. 😂😂😂😂
I'll pass. I like Hartnett and I haven't given up all the way on Shyamalan yet but I can't abide even a second of the horrible music genre that the film depicts, let alone a whole movie featuring it. I wouldn't be able to shut it out.
Same. Him casting his own daughter and having her music be played 1/3 of the music seems like a long, bad ad for her. I cant stand that.
Being a fan of Hartnett, this pains me.
The only reason he's still allowed the budget to make more movies is because people keep going to the theater expecting him to return to form. He won't. For the love of cinema, please stop going to see his movies.
Your comment shows that you are not in the theme completly)
I thought people were going to see what happens....I don't think anyone expects him to return to form at this point, but most of his flops are super entertaining flops.
His poor daughter has cancer
I liked the ending
I liked trap. I thought it was a lot of fun.
Honesty u know if a M.Knight movies going to be any good from trailor. I knew this was going to be a turd
I'd good it a 2 or 2.5/5
'Trap'' was a terrible flick.
This video does NOT CONTAIN SPOILERS. I dunno what that other comment is talking about.
People think revealing the basic setup is a spoiler 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
This is the worst movie of the year. Easily.
I actually really liked it
But...but.. Stuckmann said it was "great"!
Blind up ya 👍
Haven't seen this yet
This movie was hot trash. My god I hated every minute of the third act.
Oh, my god. I had no idea the pop star was his daughter. Thank you so much for saving me the time. I will Not be watching this.
I was entertained and that's all I care about...
Knock at the cabin was top tier… people just wanna hate on Shyamalan
It's not hate, it's objectively bad story writing and cinematography. If you were consistently bad at your job, sprinkled with a few successes, you wouldn't have a very good reputation either? Think critically, please.
Haters gonna hate) Yes, they want to match their patterns and hates when someone did some original moves. This dude 25 years writes fun clanky dialogues in his world and still some people think it's unintentionally funny and stupid) Being critical to your patterns also important to being critical)

@@augustusplays7896 so overdramatic comment))
@@Str52849 not at all, literally nothing happened for almost two hours. The worst decision making by characters
very skimpy plot.....coulda been a tv show episode.
Didn’t watch because of spoilers, but Baaaaaateeeeeestaaaaaaa
“Return to horror” what do you mean. Every film he has done since The Happening has been horror/thriller lol. By the reviews for this movie though and it’s awful PG-13 rating. Just another strike for M. Night in the bad movie category.
I had fun with this movie. 🍿 thought it was a good time at the movies. Josh Hartnett is incredible in this movie and carries the film the whole way.
I just saw it, and holy shit it was terrible! 2/5 for me.
trap was starting off really good into that 3th act in the movie and it just falls apart smh its like Shyamalan don't no how to stop adding up so much plots into one movie and just stay in one tone stop bring in more characters that wasn't needed in this film that was just taking way from the main characters the father and daughter relationship.and my god his daughter sucks as a actor why did he put her as a main character thinking this will help her real life music career its just made her look even worse he didn't do his daughter any great favorites being in this movie. it was so close to being the best film he's ever made but he just kept add to the film things that wasn't needed it and its a flop he just never leans to pull back and stop over doing his films fuck so close to being great it was a great idea but when he comes up with good ideas he turns the story into shit smh lol
One Flaw in this movie and I saw it at 9 AM was that black guy was waaaay waaaaay waaaaaay too nice
It's definitely NOT a horror film! Don't be fooled
What a twist lol
The Twist is getting trapped watching M Nights real Daughter songs all of them 😂😂😂 she is a horrible actress as well. M Night shyamalan's daughter is as bad an actress as Will Smith's kid
This review is way too brutal! 😅
Top 3 movie this year
