One of the best fictional serial killers. Dexter himself is a brilliant character. He rides that fine line between perfect at everything & horribly flawed. Usually his luck means it ruins everyones day & the show used that by perfecting his other half - Debra. But up until Season 4, Dexter & Debra & Doakes were the highlight of the show. The Ice Truck Killer - whilst excellent - was unfortunately tied into the first season, much more interested in Dexter himself. Going into the 4th Season, Dexter had found his brother to be like him, ran & escaped from the FBI whilst successfully undermining his nemesis, then attempted to make a friend resulting in a careful chess match where he was destined to win. Trinity is different. Dexter seeks out Trinity. He pokes the bear. Dexter doesn't even fit Trinity's pattern, Trinity doesn't target anyone Dexter knows, Trinity could give less of a shit about Dexter. He's got his own ritual, own plans, own family & own trauma. Dexter - stupidly but believably - seeks to learn from someone who's seemingly mastered the art. As the season drags on, and we discover more about Arthur Mitchell, it becomes blatantly clear Dexter is out of his depth. He's playing with fire. The scene in which Arthur walks into the station, calls out Dexter's true name & grins - is an all time classic jaw dropping moment. You truly feel for the first time in the entire show Dexter was out-foxed, beaten & vulnerable. Trinity's parting gift only proves that. He could have killed Harrison. He has no problem killing kids. But he wanted Dexter to suffer through so much more than that.
Leaving Harrison alive in a scene that mimicked Dexter's trauma was 100% intentional. It was revenge for saving his life and ruining the peace he had after his confession. He knows Dexter did it maliciously. Since Dexter hit him in his deepest core, Trinity returned the favor.
Dexter was not out of his depth, he had so many opportunities to kill Arthur but threw them away because he sought to learn from him. He outmatched him everytime they fought, and still in the end, he killed him. Dexter was just being extremely stupid and careless in S4.
He was one of the most terrifying killers on Dexter. He can mask himself into the respectable family man that goes to church and helps build homes for the poor. Then there is the secret flip sides, the vulnerable traumatised man who morphs into an innocent child but at a switch he can become a monster with the most unpredictable, violent outbursts.
The dinner at Arthur’s House and the “Hello, Dexter Morgan” scenes are some of the best moments in the series. It’s remarkable how John Lithgow played a character that spent most of their time playing a character. The caring family man was a mere façade that when unmasked revealed a monster, if not demon of the worst kind. Excellent villain analysis as always. Villain Profile Suggestions: 1. Frank Underwood/Francis Urquart (House of Cards) 2. 001 (Squid Game) 3. Petyr Baelish (A Song of Ice and Fire) 4. Frank Gallagher (Shameless US 5. Marty and Wendy Byrde (Ozark) 6. Your timing is impeccable, I just got done watching season 4. I like the theory as to why trinity has his killing ritual(s). I think what might be his root cause is something deeper than his attempts at protecting the innocence of his past or perceived innocence. And his method of self harm-guilt through continuous trauma reenactment. It’s perhaps never meant to be analysed. Because humans are emotional, flawed and illogical. It could be a mental trap his mind is stuck in. Or an unorthodox way of finding someone who understands him and empathises with him. Once Dexter did he did seem to feel happy. And in god he finds a being who understands him deeply. Maybe he’s just sad for being alone. So many theories can be constructed here, but perhaps trinity doesn’t warrant a theory perhaps he’s just too far gone. To us and himself. This is the mind of an insane person.
He may be dealing with childhood trauma by showing to himself less personally traumatic (because they involved strangers) versions of the situations that haunt him. He may be trying to overwrite his memories. I think there's some kind of therapy that does the same thing, maybe "exposure therapy". Maybe he keeps doing it because he may think he has a duty to remember his family and the ongoing act of remembering eventually evokes the overwhelming urge to try to forget those certain details. I guess he wants to save the young boys, whom he sees himself in, from a future that must be terrible. His God wouldn't punish him any more than he'd punish any other boy, so it must be bad for them all.
@@jumpinjohnnyrussexposure therapy is doing something repeatedly to get used to it and make it less anxiety inducing orand traumatic. Exposure therapy is based of positive reinforcement towards fears.

John Lithgow was known to people of a certain age or depending on what films you saw as the dad from 3rd Rock. It must have been a shock to them to see him as the Trinity Killer. Trinity is the only fictional villain, ever, to make me stop my binge for a break. Dexter was finished when I started watching and I'd more or less just binged for a couple days doing little else. I watched the episode where Trinity was killed rather early in the morning and normally I'd stay in bed for a while but after seeing the death of Rita I had to stop and get up. It took me most of the day to get over that experience and even when I got back to it in the evening I was sure I must have misunderstood something. For context, I've seen countless horror/gore movies and I've written lyrics for more death metal songs than probably any one person ever about all kinds of twisted and dark things without batting an eye, but Trinity... Now that was something else... He's also the sole reason why I've never rewatched Dexter, I watched a recap before New Blood came out to make sure I remembered everything but I've never actually rewatched the series, purely because of Trinity.
As someone with Borderline Personality Disorder, I understand that you definitely tried to be extremely professional and respectful here, but you definitely missed the mark by equating an entire category of syndromes that are primarily harmful to the patient themselves to becoming a serial killer as much as you did. "...develop a personality disorder, or become a killer" should never be the second half of a clause. I don't know a single person with a personality disorder where it *doesn't* completely define their life in horrible ways, and literally all of my great-grandmother's descendants have been subject to a cycle of abuse that has produced more than fifteen of us. That's because they're kind of entirely defined by external *behaviours* that cause problems for your life - your *personality* would not be a *disorder* if its external indicators didn't cause your life to become disordered. Of them, I know a *ton* of people guilty of some form of abuse of the people around them, many who self-harm, a few who just straight up make the world a worse place, and *one* murderer. He shot a cop while robbing a bank in a gang in chicago in the 70s. There's a massive step between that and serial killers. Most of us are just trying to survive when all our coping mechanisms are wrong and most people with borderline would rather be one of dexter's victims than sit alone without music or the internet for fifteen minutes. Yes, most killers suffer from a disorder in this category, but that's almost *by definition* . Personality disorders aren't really distinct *things* like being Bipolar or Schizophrenic so much as entire classes of personality whose defining traits are deemed to be maladpative in the current environment. You know what's really unacceptable in the current environment? Repeatedly murdering a specific class of person to sate your own urges, usually sexual. They *have* to have something in that spectrum, otherwise they would not be able to do such a thing. It covers most of the personalities that *can* do something like that by its basic nature.

I just finished the Trinity Killer season last night lmao perfect timing
Laguerta dies, debra dies, and dexter is the bay harbor butcher

Analyzing Evil: Captain Walker from Spec Ops The Line!
Good stuff as usual! Trinity Killer is such a memorable character mainly because of Lithgow’s performance. He deserved that Emmy award.
Hope to see these covered some day:
- Joe Cooper (Killer Joe)
- Nino Brown (New Jack City)
- Jake "The Muss" Heke (Once Were Warriors)
- Spider-Man 3 villains (Sandman and Venom)
- Dr. X (from the Operation: Mindcrime albums by Queensrÿche)
Trinity truly was the peak of scary in regard to Dexter antagonists
J.L sure knows hw to play a bad guy, flawless performance
George Foyet aka "The Boston Reaper" from Criminal Minds
He should do “the best of evil” compilation videos for shows like criminal minds and csi
This character analysis is long overdue happy Friday. Your analysis of Dexter Morgan’s greatest villain is absolutely spot on.
Analyzing evil: Captain Martin Walker from SpecOps the Line.
Great video of the best dexter villain, the thanksgiving scene is absolutely legendary haha, so is his dance outside the van. He is loved so much by the fans that they even gave him a flashback in new blood.

Analysing Evil: Bojack Horseman
Peter Griffin
Actually, not a bad serious suggestion
Ooh, that'd be a good one
Ooh I like this. I don't think Bojack is "evil" personally but I'd be willing to listen to Mr. Vile make a case.
@@blouburketteIsn't the whole point of the show that he's a terrible person? Haven't watched it so idk but, from what I've heard, I'd call him evil
Analyzing Evil: Frank Reynolds
I think people are born vulnerable and literally anything can drive someone into a dark place.
Hear hear
A little oversimplified but I agree
then there are no good or bad people, just people lucky enough to be born in a good situation. This means the trinity killer was justified in his actions because he was just "vulnerable"
This is crazy to me, because I just started watching Dexter a couple weeks ago after seeing that you had an Analyzing Evil for him and watching the first 5 minutes. And you just happened to be doing another Dexter video? Crazy.
Coming straight back to this channel after I finish. Thank you for helping me find another show that I love.
The 1st step- cement slab boy- is Arthur BURYING himself at the age of ten, representing his frozen status ever since; he wishes he'd died.
This is such perfect timing, I just finished up a rewatch of Dexter and was thinking it'd be great to see Trinity
I wanna see either Chrollo or Meruem from Hunter x Hunter
The timing of this is incredible. I just finished season 4 for the first time yesterday
Analyzing evil: Yoshikage Kira
“Annalyzing evil: P Diddy” would be a huge release
Please do Clyde Shelton from Law Abiding Citizen!
Im happy you made this one cuz i just rewatched the season, absolutely fantastic imo
Best “Bad Guy” in the series. John Lithgow was a perfect choice. Seemingly harmless. He just *looks* like a “nice guy”… ya know?
And Brian Moser as a close 2nd..
Please do one on the Ice Truck Killer. He is my favorite Killer from Dexter. He was amazing
Can’t wait for you to cover Doakes, the infamous Bay Harbor Butcher next
We all know Harrison was the true Bay Harbor Butcher
Can’t believe that joey Quinn was the bay harder butcher
oh HELL YES!! this dude was incredibly unsettling and took Dexter to a new level
It's highest level, it never reached that peak again in my opinion
Do Brian Moser
yeah thats what we been waiting for
@@jehusturboTrinity is bigger than Moser… maybe he’ll be next…
@@alexmartin3143well obviously since we’re commenting on the Trinity video lol
Absolutely!
His analysis video would be a bit more interesting imo, cuz it’s pretty obvious how evil trinity is, he basically has no redeeming qualities while Brian moser loves his brother
Dang, I just watched this for the first time a few days ago and now this video just came out! Perfect timing haha
It is said that every time a youtuber does a Raid Shadow Legends ad, their soul dies a little.
Analyze Evil: Raid Shadow Legends developers
Just finished the last episode of Dexter 10 minutes ago and then this comes up on my feed 😮😅
The characters from Silent Hill 2 would make a great video. I think a lot, if not all of them, have some aspect of evil to them that can be explored
Just fyi, James and the world of Silent Hill 2 recently won the October patreon poll and will get a video next month!

Analyzing Evil- Odin from God of War Ragnarok . Possibly talk about some of the other gods from the series and how they’re evil made Kratos the way he was
Analyzing evil, Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood. Love your work man been a fan for a long time.
Analyzing evil godric from true blood😊
perfectly written analysis! arthur is reliving his trauma to remake his personal history in a way. he wants to feel like he has control over his pain so he can rewrite and “erase” what made him who he is today.
I can't beleive the trinity doakes killer was the better call dexter
I will not let you gas light me into dyslexia
Am I having a stroke?
@@yaboityler2617 No it’s a just brain eating parasite.
I don't see how I'd be able to believe that either.
This was undoubtedly the best Dexter Season
Analyzing evil: Toby Flenderson from the office

I looked this up yesterday because I watched a Trinity Killer compilation and they upload a day after, nice.
Day 2 of me asking you to do an analysis of Sosuke Aizen from bleach
I just subscribed after watching this video. Cant wait to go down the rabbit hole of your videos. Awesome work
Analyzing Evil: Adachi, Persona 4 would be a good one
Guess this is my sign from the universe to boot up the PS2 again 😂😱 Great game with such an immersive world and such compelling characters.
You have got to do an analyzing evil on Dracula from the netflix adaptation of Castlevania, or any of the villains really.
Can you please do Yami Marik from Yu-Gi-Oh? His sadistic nature is completely unhinged and he's a disciple of a sun god in his verse. I think you'd have a lot of fun researching him
Great Beast of the Sky hear my cry! 😂
EXCELLENT WORK. THE VILE EYE 👁🗨 THE MOST EVIL 😈 CHARACTER IN DEXTER IS THE TRINITY KILLER
Damn dog you double dipped on me here with first an advertisement and second a PSA.
It’s crazy because I am LITERALLY watching season 4 of Dexter AS this notification hits my phone. Absolutely WILD timing 🙌🏼
In the same boat!
It takes me so long to finish this season every time I re watch because Rita's death guts me every time 😢
Just saw this afternoon. What a heartbreaking scene man. Hope you enjoy the rest of the show again! Always a great watch 🙌🏼
OMG This is a whole avenue I never thought of!! Please keep doing villains from this series :D
Day 548 of asking u to analyse christopher moltisanti
havent seen dexter, but will soon, currently early in watching monster can't wait to see what johan does because I love a good antagonist, I love what you do, you have been influencing what media I consume for years all because I love your videos, I remember watching because of what I had consumed up to that point at the dutch van der linde video but I'm here now and don't intend to stop. Your content has inspired me to consume more media. Love your videos.
Analyzing Evil: The Emperor of Mankind. Dude did some lets just say dicey stuff
He never got over the invasion being cancelled and never hearing back from the Big Giant Head
Analyzing evil ... Eric Cartman
This man is one of the most horrifying characters in all of fiction. Who knew the guy from 3rd rock was capable of such a performance
Analyzing Evil: IDW Megatron?
YES
The commentary on societal ways of telling boys to "suck it up" really, really resonates with a lot of the trauma I went through growing up.
