    Really enjoyed making this dress and the way it came out!
    For anyone else who will try to make this - a few tips to add to this tutorial while they're fresh in my mind:
    - I've never made a dress from a tutorial on this channel before and didn't fully realise how small the channel creator was - try and adjust her measurements upwards for yourself if needed! Also when making a half-circle skirt pattern you want to add a few extra inches to the waist measurement that then gives you the looseness to cinch in, plus extra if you want it to be a bit more ruffled at the waist line
    - I had 2m of fabric, which should be just over two yards (the amount specified in the video). I only JUST managed to make it work by making the ruffle 2/3 of recommended height, not giving myself as much 'breathing room' in bodice pieces, and splitting the back bodice panel into two halves I then had an extra step to stitch together. draw out your pattern on paper first so that you can work out how to position pieces on your fabric to get them all to fit in the area available before you cut
    - the instructions are out of order on the video! To make it easy i recommend sewing darts into front bodice, then trim and attach to back bodice, then add straps then bias tape (as creator recommends, but i hadn't fully clocked on my initial skim through so didn't remember when i came to actually make it)
    - if you don't have bias tape you can use strips cut from leftovers of the fabric you use to make your own pretty easily (i swear by method used by Jess Dang in her 'button down midi dress' tutorial around the 20 min mark)
    - the ribbon ties aren't necessary if you don't want them - just sew the full strap piece onto the back panel, then pin them onto the front as long as you want them and sew on the same there. dress still works to put on like a vest top
    - linen is so cute and i love using it for this but goddam does it wrinkle
    - the bottom ruffle piece is much easier to hem before it is attached to the skirt as you can lay it flat easily before it's all ruffled up
    - the button cinch for the waist is a genius move and I want it to become a universal replacement for zippers!
    - for those who don't have an overlocker, french seams work well to finish edges of the bodice pieces securely, zigzag stitch works for the ruffley bits
    - my flatmate pointed out that the top part of this dress would be a really cute crop top if you just hemmed the bottom of the bodice instead of attaching skirt and I 10/10 agree

      Thank you so much for sharing your experience from making this dress! I think it would be helpful to identify the body measurements and how they relate to the measurements of the pattern pieces you cut out.

    Instead of showing just the measurements of the pieces, you should show the measurements relative to your measurements so we can adjust them to our size, for example this piece is a half of my bust/ waist size, etc

      She has her measurements typed below the Video. So you can kinda deduce a little bit what the measurements of your pieces will be.

    Thanks for all the info on the button hole foot, I’ve been sewing for 40 years and I’ve been avoiding doing buttons… Now because of RUclips maybe I can learn how to do it… Lol… And your dog is so darn cute!

    Legitimately I have just decided I wanted to make a beginner friendly but adjustable dress because oh boy am I tired of zips, and lo-and-behold your tutorial pops up! I think I'll be having a go at it with some cotton fabric in my secondhand sheet stash and I will definitely let you know how it goes!

    I'm planning on making one of my own, but the only thing is I want to wear this to school, and I'm worried that the bows will come undone or someone untied them. I guess I could double knot it, but then I'd never get it out if I needed to adjust it 🤔

    • @crickis
      @crickis Год назад +1

      idk if you’re still ruminating on this, but trust that bows actually don’t come untied as easily as you think. if it’s a big worry, have someone else tie them for you in case you think you won’t be able to tie them tight enough

    • @maudjoyal6014
      @maudjoyal6014 Год назад +4

      There are her heigh and her measurements in the description (5'9", waist 25", bust 32", hips 34") so with cross-multiplication you can adapt it to your body :)

    I hope this isnt a stupid question, but ive never made any clothes before. For the skirt piece, should i be measuring a circle with a 35 in radius and then cutting 11 inches out of the corner before unfolding it?

    • @mackycarlson1969
      @mackycarlson1969 Год назад

      Did you ever figure it out? I am confused too

    • @crickis
      @crickis Год назад +1

      not a stupid question! so basically, yes you’re cutting everything before unfolding it. however, that 11” is actually the radius of a smaller half circle cut out of the 35” total radius. so make sure you measure out a tiny half circle and NOT a diagonal. very important

  • @areeba6158
