For incremental approach during Mixing, I believe the 'Mixer Snapshots' is one of the greatest things, Studio One has to offer. Also, Studio One's silent autosave is really a life saver. It has saved a lot of people (including myself) from huge issues.

Thank you, Gregor! This is brilliant! I often have situations just like you describe, where I want to try some significant experiment in the song, so first I want to save another version so I can always go back. I've always just used the "save as" feature in order to create other versions. And then I would create a separate note file in order to write down notes about each version. Now I can do it much quicker and easier without having to add an extra file for notes! I think the tips in this video can also be useful for learning the best way to back up songs to other drives, which I like to do periodically while I work. I always like to save the song to the cloud, to another hard drive on my system and to a removable drive just in case! I used to go out of Studio One and copy and paste all the files, but now I can do it much quicker and easier!

One thing that is important and has been overlooked is what happens to your files if your computer crashes or your files become lost - The easy way around this conundrum is to save files to new folder on the desktop and right click on saved file and save to compressed folder.. Once done save compressed folder to an external drive.. The whole file will be saved forever ... From external drive folder you can open file and send to Studio One.. Footnote: I found out the hard way how to save song files after losing tons of work.. Hope this helps and happy song creation

The only reason (for me) to still use "Save As" instead of versions is to have multiple project files on hard drive, in case u have only one project file and it goes currupt, all of your versions info inside is gone 👍, thank you for the explanation.

I really like the idea of song versions. However, let's say I forked my project along the way into two versions A and B. A is where I started, I created B and kept working there. Added some FX, a couple instruments, maybe messed with the arrangement. Then I decide I liked A better, but I want to take a few FX-Chains and Instruments from my current version B with me to version A. How would I go about this? If I have multiple song files, at least I'll be able to "Import Session Data" and "Append Tracks", right?

    • @CHOKSTARmusic

If you are working on a version that you intend to save under a new name (like your half tempo example) but want to retain your original what happens in the autosave time period because now you should have Auto saved something that is incremental to the version that you want to save, meaning it has changes in it for your new version that you don't want in your old version.

Ok, big question.... If I'd edit a song, let's say I'm happy with a certain version and then I'd like a 2nd version which is shorter, and has some other edits and changes. Before I make this 2nd version, do I have to turn off autosave? Because otherwise it would corrupt my initial version, right? And then after making that 2nd version I "save to new version" and then I have the initial one intact and this 2nd one. Right?

  • @diegostaltari
    @diegostaltari Год назад

Saludos.

One thing I've not figured out is how to open a new song in the same folder. Use case: a sound design sessions for the current song you're working on, or AB/B ing different mixed down versions. What I do now is copy a song file that already exists in the current folder and delete everything from it. But this feels incredibly inefficient.

One will never have a single problem knowing what is the latest song version if they use some logical means of altering the "save as" song name. Such as using a suffix of _1s.song, _1b.song, _2g.song, etc. Just know as Gregor points out here that .song files do not contain all of the components in the song. So you'll want to know how Studio One builds song folders within each song, and how to utilize them.

This approach to change first, and then revert save, seems so backwards. Why not an option or default: Save current work as is. Now move on to a New Version. So much more logical.

Big Sur?!! On what hardware? Is it ready for M1 macs officially soon?? Getting one tomorrow and just keeping my fingers crossed it will work for semi pro work already. Seems like it in this video thought. No replies to anyone of my posts in any forums, fb, reddit, forums.presonus..

Would this apply to making a drum cover? I'm still trying to figure out how to record over a drumless track. Little help?

Look up how to make a beat map in studio one if the tracks tempo isn't consistent and go into the metronome settings and render the metronome as an independent track. Doing this means you can have queues counted in for you. Once you've recorded your drum tracks you can mute the metronome. This video doesn't really apply to unless your mixing your drums in another session which I wouldn't personally do cause you'll have around 8 drum tracks depending on your setup. I hope that helps :)

@@joshthurlow11 Thanks for your suggestion. I understand tempo....my problem is probably more simple. How do I get the song/track I want to play to in my drum mix? I can record drum tracks, set the metranome, quantize if I have to. I just can't get the song I want to cover in Studio One

@@bubinga_basher This is the best part about studio one hahaha. Everything is drag and drop. If you find your file for the track you can drag it into the timeline.

@@joshthurlow11 So I just have to drag it into my template, and it will be a track, or a Bus? Is that it?

@@bubinga_basher Drag it into your song page and it'll be there :)
