Lovely pictures. I especially adore the faces you colored. So beautiful. Also the single -pencil blue mandala is quite impressive! I would love it if you would do a complete complicated page with us even if it takes hours!!! It would be so worth the time and effort and would be great fun. Hope you and your family are all doing well; take very good care Barb ❤
Thank you I had not realised the 120 golds were different colours to the soft touch. I am now wondering what colour differences there are with the CA watercolour pencils. I had no idea. (I thought all the big sets were the same). Thank you for sharing and all your pages!
Beautiful as always. I am a beginner so would like to as why colourists don't often/like mixing pencil brands when colouring a page. I don't have a large selection so am often forced to mix brands.
Thank you. I think it could be confusing for people watching. I used to mix brands all the time when I only had two sets and some open stock pencils. Now I have larger sets, I just do not have room on my desk for many at once so tend to stick with one set at a time.
For me personally it's because each pencil has it's own characteristics. They blend differently, or are more transparent or opaque. It messes me up when I pick up a color and expect it to behave in a certain way, and it doesn't. I have mixed certain pencils on purpose because they are either extremely similar in formula but offer different colors (Goldfaber, Chromaflow), or complement each other by doing different things that the single set lacks, like adding a pastel set to my Polychromos or Arteza Expert. I also have mixed sets that are watercolor and dry pencils from the same line that match each other. Back in the day when I did actual art with pencils I only had Prisma, and used both the premiere and the verithin together...one is hard and thin, the other thicker and soft. For most people who post videos they expect others to follow it's just easier to stay with one brand so people who are looking for tutorials with the set they own can find and use them. There is nothing wrong with mixing your pencils, and many artists do so. I have a swatch chart saved on my computer from a professional artist that mixed I think six different artist grade sets by nothing other than color. Once you learn to mix colors though you can do a lot with not as many actual colors.. this is again personal preference.. I CAN do anything with a few pencils in the right colors (most premade sets don't offer the colors I would choose so I would buy them open stock).. but I don't care to most of the time because it's a lot of work and I simply don't have the time and energy to fuss with it. I work a "real job" 50hrs a week now which is why I'm coloring and not doing actual art anymore. I personally want at least a 72 set and preferably 120. If I were handpicking a set from open stock it would be a minimum of light/med/dark of both warm and cool tones of each hue (yellow, orange, red, purple, blue, green, brown, grey), plus white and black. You could reduce this by choosing only a light and dark of each, it would require more blending but still be a cohesive set. The absolute minimum would be a midtone of each and lighten and darken with black and white... that is only 18 pencils. I would encourage you to either start with a nice big budget set (Brutfuner, Soucolor, Markart are all lovely and cheap), or a well chosen small selection of artist quality pencils (polychromos and prisma are the most popular for tutorials and professional artists, but buy what is local to you for the best value and ease of getting open stock.. see what your local art supply stores sell). Both have pros and cons, depending on what direction you want your art to take. The nice big set will let you play comfortably with little investment of money.. the small set of artist quality will make you a better artist.
Hi my beautiful friend beautiful colouring pages.. I’m the same with snakes seeing them in pictures I’m ok once I see them moving I freak out an say I’m moving to the uk.. and spiders omg my son picked up a deadly red back spider the other night in the house he showed me it fell of his hands and land on my leg I freaked out the spider did get a dose of fly spray. Thank you for sharing ❤❤❤😊😊😊xxxx
I agree with the price of those markers Copic is the same I won’t buy them cause I hardly use those Ohuhus.. you done well this month.. it’s Monday morning and my birthday 🥳
How do you feel about the Derwent Drawing? I've gone back and forth on them multiple times. The only one I own is the white, as I was testing it along with a bunch of other whites.. and it was just ok. I typically would use it as a limited color set on it's own, but the color selection is so limited it's not very versatile. Way too many similar colors as well for such a small set. It really needs about five more colors so that it could do a bit more, especially a good sky blue and a darker grey. Are they similar in feel to any other pencils you own?
I feel that the Derwent Drawing pencils are lovely for backgrounds as they are really soft, rather like Prismas. However, the cores are thick, so you need to keep sharpening them for details. The colours are perfect for an autumn palette but I tend to use them alongside my other Derwents so that I get a better colour range with more blues and brighter greens. I agree that some colours are very similar such as the orangey browns and the pale greens. I would definitely just get some open stock as in the set there are so many similar colours, I would recommend the yellow ochre for definite, lovely colour!
Hi Rachel, The complicated page I had in mind was from "Flower Year". It's the April title page which I was too afraid to try by myself. I love that book but that page is rather daunting. I have Black Widow (4sets-spider, scorpion, cobra and dragon) which I thought might work. Or, maybe Staedtler ergo or design journey (I have 48). What do you think? I realize it's May now but I so wanted to do this page and florals are always appropriate aren't they? Will you do the whole page with us, please?
I have just had a look and I can see why it is daunting for you, it is for me as well! I will bookmark it though and put a note to do it with Ergosoft as I think a more limited palette with a set I am very familiar with will help me! I have just finished a Leila Duly series from Walk in the Woods, which is due to come out 10-12 May so this one will probably be a bit later in the month.
Beautiful pages Rachel l Love them all thank you for sharing 😊💖

I have 75 watercolours so I am not sure what is in the 120.

We have 3 types of snakes here in the UK and one is venomous, but they rarely get seen! Luckily no deadly spiders though
Happy birthday!

@@RachelHendersonColouring Good suggestion getting a few just for backgrounds.
❤❤💙❤❤
thank you
love your colouring, so neat. do you ever use blending solution over the pencils to help blend. xxx
Thank you. I rarely use blending solution, I find it makes the paper wet and is a bit smelly!
