Been living there for 2 decades now. I don't really go there as much now but I do tend to order a delivery from there occasionally. Also, my birthday parties are no longer interesting now as an adult. It feels so crazy that this was all nearly 2 decades ago. I can honestly believe that Hungry Jack's in Australia are better than our Burger King. Britt makes me want to hop onto a plane to the Land Down Under asap with how she presents the food.
Here in America, we have a food brand in stores called 'Hungry Jack's' who does breakfast items like pancakes, waffles, syrup, & dinner items like Instant Mashed Potatoes. So I've been unsure if they're the same brand as the Australian Burger King with the name 'Hungry Jack's'.
My understanding of the name 'Hungry Jacks' actually came from that pancake brand, "Hungry Jack". Which at least used to be owned by Pillsbury, if not, still is (not sure). Pillsbury also owned Burger King and when they hit a wall in Australia regarding their branding issue, they simply adapted the name Hungry Jacks from their breakfast branding (Hungry Jack) as they didn't sell their pancake brand in stores here, and they, of course, already owned that brand. So yup, you're spot on, and well done because not many make that connection :)
@@phunkmonkeycookiegarage7773 Pillsbury has since sold their Hungry Jack products to J.M. Smucker, the owner of Smucker's jellies and jams, as well as Jif peanut butter...
Also, side note, we DO have the Rodeo cheeseburger here. We use to use the small crumbed onion rings but stopped that probably about 7? years ago? We now use actual pieces of onion ring in batter as opposed to the minced onion that's shaped and crumbed. It's honestly better imo when they're fresh. And Angry onions iirc have either cayenne pepper and/or added capsaicin in the batter. Not overly spicy but defs have a nice kick.
Some guy on yelp reviewed Hungry Jack’s coffee & described it as “dirty puddle water”. HJs took it under advisement, revamped their coffee menu, then used his review as part of the marketing campaign to advertise the improved coffee menu. Gotta love the sense of humour but their coffee still suuuuuuucks.
the grill master's change up their lineup every few years, originally the cheapest one was the bacon cheese and angus but that seems to have been replaced with the chicago grill master, and an angry angus with the angry onions was also a part of the line. Basically we got a ship of theseus sorta thing where the entire range has compltely changed from what it was a few years ago. (oh seems her one still has the original bacon and cheese) also the range has three major differences from the regular burgers: special buns, ergemont cheese rather than the normal one and 3rd Pound angus beef patties. So they're a lot bigger and more decadent overall, reflecting their higher price range. the cowboy angus has a pair of onion rings on it that's what sets it apart from the others in the range. (also we at least DID have the rodeo burger for a while not sure if it's something you cna still order though)
If U want rodeo burgers ..order 4 bbq cheeseburgers & medium onion rings, then add them to the burgers.. if ur a regular at ur local U could probably talk them into adding the rings to the burgers for U... total cost for for the 4 burgers+ medium rings will be $15

There’s some errors showcased in this Aussie side. The ‘chips’ in the whiskey burgers are Angry Onions and the sauces are Mayo, Mustard and BBQ sauce. The cheese that’s in the plant-based whopper or Rebel, the former name, is the standard cheese that’s in every burger that isn’t the Vegan or Angus. Also, the Chicago, Cowboy and Pulled Pork Angus are Promo burgers however, Chicago and Cowboy have stayed on the menu, but the Pulled Pork will leave soon and replaced with another promo. However it can still stay due to demand. The Pulled Pork Angus has a special Spicy BBQ sauce instead of the regular Smoky BBQ sauce, but that runs out often so they have to change it with Smoky. You should’ve waited for the summer promos which are the Tropical and the Aussie Whoppers/JFCs. Also, there wasn’t a Royale shown If you were to have done it in 2018-19 there would’ve been the Mini’s, Chicken Fries, Tendercrisp, Extra-long Tendercrisp. 2019-20 there was Tendercrisp wraps. There’s also a handful of other unique promos that were done. Roadhouse Whopper, Carolina Whopper (coming back), Pulled Beef Angus, Chorizo Angus, Fiery Angus, The Big Jack which was mentioned, the original Grilled Chicken bun, Chicken Tenders, Chicken Bites, the OG Beer Battered Onion Rings, the Black Ops 3 Whopper, and a bunch more that I cannot remember

Truthfully our fast food workers here in Australia are usually kids. High school kids or university students working part time and living at home with mum and dad. If you go to a HJ's here (or McDonald's or KFC or whatever), chances are the only staff member over 21 will be the manager. Even though our adult minimum wage is a lot higher than the US, you can't survive on it as an entry-level employee. Maybe as a manager, but not as a kitchen hand or fast food cashier. That's why its mainly students who do the job, who don't have rent or household bills to pay.
I'm really surprised that burger king in America costs more than Hungary Jacks in Australia especially considering lower paid workers earn a lot more in Australia. I genuinely thought America would be way cheaper than Australia

They normally offer the Zesty sauce with onion rings. And Whiskey River is just a name, not necessarily indicating whiskey in the sauce. And Joe was missing the unnatural-looking Original Chicken Sandwich.
My guess was that it's named Whiskey River (title of a Willie Nelson song, actually) because it's something that you'd literally only eat if you were completely hammered.
At the moment, Hungry Jacks has seasonal/limited editions whoppers. The tropical which pineapple and bbq sauce and the Aussie which has beetroot and egg added. Both are so good...

1:03 Correction; 'French Fries' and 'Chips' are two distinct cuts of fried potato. Fries are long and thin (and are often more crispy and golden on the outside), and Chips are shorter and thicker. I'm sure Australia has Fries *and* Chips, just as we do in NewZealand. For example, KFC serves Chips, whereas McDonalds serves Fries. Non-Americans often think it's just a matter of different terms for the same thing, but it is not. It's hard to tell from the video, but it looks like she does have Chips in front of her, so it may be Hungry Jacks' fault for labeling them as "Fries".
This show has showed me that the American fast food chains are so much better outside of the U.S. I feel like these companies hate America since they don't seem to ever try here.
The only connection between Burger King in the US and Hungry Jacks in Australia is a guy in Australia originally licensed the branding and menu many many decades ago. Being from Australia i can say our bacon is definitely different at fast food stores such as kfc. It's usually cooked separately to everything else, majority of stores try to accommodate a halal/kosher friendly menu
I often wondered what the differences are between Australian and US restaurants other than the name. The Whiskey River burgers were available for a limited time, so not a regular menu item in Australia.
McDonald’s Australia is owned by the same parent company so innovations flow both ways (eg McCafe started in Australia), Hungry Jacks was founded in Australia by an Australian and licensed the logo/menu in 1971. But since then they’ve basically been completely different changes happening globally to each without flowing to the other. At one point in the 90’s Burger King US itself opened many outlets in Australia before losing a lawsuit for violating the original agreement.
The reason Hungry Jacks hasn't expanded as much here as in the US is because McDonalds had an effective monopoly on the fast food industry in Australia for quite some time as the Market leader. Still do. Wendy's is coming here soon, so the competition is going to get fiercer.
Lol Hungry Jacks is the Australian name for Burger King, they are the same fast food place , but have different names depending on the country they are in.
kfc is already catching mc donalds, 760 locations. wendys plans to open 200 stores by 2034 but unless they change up their burgers/menu to suit Aussie tastes, they wont survive. the real war would be if they brought popeyes here, to compete against kfc. atm kfc is just cleaning up on its own with no comp

It's not the version of burger king it IS burger king there was just copy right issues with an Australian food place called Burger King, so they changed it to hungry jacks
@@L.a.77not quite. i agree, boba isn't for everyone. also boba works with some things, like strawberry syrup mixed with water as a slushie, the water is used to thin out the syrup which is then poured into a glass. ice is optional.

I love Hungry Jack's. The primary school I went to down here in Tassie [Tasmania] was literally across the road from it and I used to go there when I have some money or for some dinner. I remember having a birthday party there as a kid and yes, they used to have paper crowns. OK, let's be real... I live in Launceston or what we like to nickname Launnie. Been living there for 2 decades now.
I don't really go there as much now but I do tend to order a delivery from there occasionally. Also, my birthday parties are no longer interesting now as an adult. It feels so crazy that this was all nearly 2 decades ago. Being 25 makes me feel old now and my life was in shambles during my teenage and young adult years. I lost both my parents growing up too. Thankfully I am moving on and I'm calling 2024 the "Year of New Chapter". I am thinking about doing things that I used to do as a teenager, that being going out and walking at parks, reading and borrowing books from the library, checking out the museum and art gallery. I got a life ahead of me, I should focus on making me feel happy without staring at a screen. I might have to make my Weekends and Mondays a little more interesting. I can't blame you for the caramel to be really popular, it is MY FAVORITE FLAVOR!!!!

I can honestly believe that Hungry Jack's in Australia are better than our Burger King. Britt makes me want to hop onto a plane to the Land Down Under asap with how she presents the food.

@@nahor88, I would have thought to other Americans that would be obvious. Good point though.
I think KFC in other countries just has dinner rolls. They only have biscuits in the USA/Canada.
Food tours Australia please.
Not in California
@@phunkmonkeycookiegarage7773 Pillsbury has since sold their Hungry Jack products to J.M. Smucker, the owner of Smucker's jellies and jams, as well as Jif peanut butter...
in Aus we have Wendys but it only sells hotdogs and ice cream lol
Hungry Jack’s is called so after Jack Cowin who brought the franchise to Australia
I had Hungry Jack's for lunch and yes the burgers are better at Hungry Jack's and when they made fresh and hot it taste a whole lot better
It's got a lot better, but Macca's has the better coffee ☕

the grill master's change up their lineup every few years, originally the cheapest one was the bacon cheese and angus but that seems to have been replaced with the chicago grill master, and an angry angus with the angry onions was also a part of the line. Basically we got a ship of theseus sorta thing where the entire range has compltely changed from what it was a few years ago. (oh seems her one still has the original bacon and cheese)
also the range has three major differences from the regular burgers: special buns, ergemont cheese rather than the normal one and 3rd Pound angus beef patties. So they're a lot bigger and more decadent overall, reflecting their higher price range.
the cowboy angus has a pair of onion rings on it that's what sets it apart from the others in the range. (also we at least DID have the rodeo burger for a while not sure if it's something you cna still order though)
If U want rodeo burgers ..order 4 bbq cheeseburgers & medium onion rings, then add them to the burgers.. if ur a regular at ur local U could probably talk them into adding the rings to the burgers for U... total cost for for the 4 burgers+ medium rings will be $15

it’s like a golden retriever wrote this comment and I love it!
Also, there wasn’t a Royale shown
If you were to have done it in 2018-19 there would’ve been the Mini’s, Chicken Fries, Tendercrisp, Extra-long Tendercrisp.

@@marydavis5234they’re not actually the same company at all. An Australian originally licensed their menu and branding design decades ago. Since then they have operated completely separately to the point that in the late 90’s Burger King actually opened in Australia themselves, with minor changes to their logo to try and avoid the fact that they’d sold the rights in Australia. A few weeks after this video came out, Hungry Jack's announced the return of the Big Jack, the Hungry Jack's version of the Big Mac. I remember McDonald's took Hungry Jack's to court over copyright infringement, Hungry Jack's came out on top.
Also interesting was that Hungry Jacks prices were less than Burger Kings. Yet Australia can pay their fast food workers a livable wage.
We pay $29/h minimum for an adult casual worker.
I'm really surprised that burger king in America costs more than Hungary Jacks in Australia especially considering lower paid workers earn a lot more in Australia. I genuinely thought America would be way cheaper than Australia
One of the reasons I ubereats HJ is i can get a large chips and drink 2 burgers and 3 nuggets (hunger tamers box) for around $25 delivered to my house.

Two is better than one.
Per capita, its basically equal.
The US has BK 6729 restaurants, about 1.8 BK's per 100,000 people
Aus has 463 HJ restaurants (as 24 Feb '24), about 1.75 HJ's per 100,000 people.

For clarification... tucker isn't specific to dinner. Tucker is just generally food.
I often wondered what the differences are between Australian and US restaurants other than the name. The Whiskey River burgers were available for a limited time, so not a regular menu item in Australia.
They come back very regularly.
@@RiTchieKII yeah, they seem to come and go don’t they… it’s Big Jacks turn for a comeback!!
In Nov 23 The Federal Court ruled a Hungry Jack's burger did not infringe on McDonald's trademark and could continue to sell the Big Jack.

It's not the version of burger king it IS burger king there was just copy right issues with an Australian food place called Burger King, so they changed it to hungry jacks
@@L.a.77not quite. Indeed, we used to have Australian Dr Pepper in the 90s, now we only have imported cans and they're not that common.
i agree, boba isn't for everyone. also boba works with some things, like strawberry syrup mixed with water as a slushie, the water is used to thin out the syrup which is then poured into a glass. ice is optional.
I don't really like boba in drinks, mainly because they can be a choking hazard, which is easier to do when drinking rather than eating. In fact, I've never had food go down the wrong pipe, if anything makes that happen for me it's gonna be drinks with bobas in it.
