Good to hear that you’ve had your hip done Lee. The first 6 weeks is the hardest bit of the recovery so take it easy and get plenty of rest. Wishing you and your family a very happy Christmas.
@@Pablo-of9fd The answer is, it depends. Metal resurfacing has a 90+% chance pf lasting 20+ years in men under 50 years old. Andy Murray has one and returned to elite tennis. I advise people to avoid high impact and contact sports. Many of my patients play tennis, golf, skiing, sailing and going to the gym. I've treated quite a few squash players and a handful of people who do martial arts. The riskier the sport, the greater the risk to the implants.
@@Lathamhipsurgery So it's better to avoid running, for example? And the new ceramic surface prostheses, better survival? Better for impact sports? Thank you very much.
@@Pablo-of9fd I would avoid running if I had one. We have no idea if the ceramic resurfacings will have better outcomes because there aren’t any long term studies to prove that is the case.
@@Lathamhipsurgery Thank you very much, doctor. I was referring to the need for none metal in the impacts and since it is ceramic it can theoretically allow them and let you do impact sports. Finally, I wanted to ask you if a resurfacing fails, could another resurfacing be done or would you already have to put on a conventional prosthesis removing the head from the femur?

Doctor, how much longer does a metal metal surface prosthesis last? What sports do you recommend doing with this prosthesis? Thank you very much
