I am 6 weeks after surgery. Best thing I ever did.im glad i listened to you and walked and walked, even when swollen on crutches just walk. 3 weeks after pain and swelling start to go. Pain free and walking normally.
Exactly the advice i was given when I consulted about my deteriorating R hip in April. "You've got good genes" I was told. Get it done soon while you are still reasonably fit. You won't improve and the sooner it's done the longer you will have to benefit. Good advise I thought and I am now 4 weeks post R BHR and I am walking normally without pain and improving day by day. No regrets. I expect the BHR to last me 30 years. I am only 82 and my mother lived until she was 103 so I expect to get at least another 20 out of it.
Good to hear that. Things have changed so much since the early days of THR when failures were mostly due to polyethylene wear and dislocations. The BHR is now in its third decade of use with excellent results. Onward and upward!
@@Lathamhipsurgery It will be interesting to watch how the two new ceramic resurfacing implants turn out once they receive CE and come into general use. I was surprised by how little trouble I had after the operation (anterior approach) and the expected numbness and paraesthesiae over my lateral thigh has almost completely resolved. The burning paraesthesia in this area for the first 10 days or so was the most unpleasant problem but it was helped a lot by regular ice pack about few times a day. The biggest problem now is holding back from increasing exercise too much. About 0.7km (1,700-2,000 steps) seems about right at the moment.
@@Lathamhipsurgery Pain is probably overstating it in my case. It was irksome and a bit unpleasant initially. Now I am only aware of it if I stroke my lateral thigh. I was warned of this common post op occurrence. With hindsight I would reassure anyone contemplating hip resurfacing that it is nothing to be afraid of and they should experience very little pain after the operation if their team has a good pain management regime (op under spinal block, intraoperative wound infiltration with bupivacaine, post operative ice and compression plus moderate oral analgesia for the first few days).
Had Adept BHR in UK 2wks post op is it normal sometimes opposite surgery leg to get groin pain would be temporary compensating for the Op Leg any advice thankyou

Depends on the diagnosis, age, levels of activity and the implants that are used. Generally I d say 70-80% chance of lasting 20 years.
