While the original version may be ciphered as Thom opening each door which represent each years of his life in Marriage with Rachel and the memories of the places and the events that he associates with those years, the reversed version sort of shows that Thom might actually be reminiscing his memories and then closing off his feelings for those memories as he shuts the doors. OR I may have looked too deep into this.
Thom Yorke is the man in the video and the singer of the band Radiohead. The name of the song is Daydreaming, but it's played backwards in this video. Your English is perfectly fine.
So did I...who knew Gaben knew Thomas de Yorke...... Think he also says Portal3 at one point....he's doing the sarcastic voiceover and RH are doing the incidental music ala 'Where I end and you begin'
This song is a magnificent portrait of a deep and powerful human feeling. Rachel Owen (1968-2016) was Tom Yorke´s wife for 23 years, and the mother of his offspring. They amicably separated in 2015, one year before shed died from cancer (2016); the same year of the release of Daydreaming. Besides the powerful and emotional lyrics, the video of this song is filled with symbolism i.e, the number of doors that Tom opens are 23, as well as the fact that some argue that the reversed video shows how Tom closes the doors of his past, revisiting moments of his life with Rachel until she is in the hospital and he moves on. It's astonishing how well preserved the harmony of the song is while reversed and some people argue about a hidden message. Reversed lyrics (self-interpretation): 0:06-0:36 Half of my life.......... Half of my love......... Half of my life....... Half of my love...... Half of my life......... Half of my love....... 01:10-02:30 Na, na, na, na na....... 02:28-03:26 I...., I see....death.... I´ll sleep after....... I´m...close............ so closer....... Why me...why....... you now......... In my...., in mind... soaks up............ 04:33-05:05 No....... No one...... There´s no one...... Yet alive........... It´ll end.......... It´ll end........ in tears.........
+Lari Tuomisto Yes - 'Pablo Honey' in 1993. 'Creep' their famous first single was released a year earlier. While the band itself actually formed way back in 1985! They were still teenagers...all this info via a little internet research on my part, I'm no Radiohead expert :)
+smurfinit48 now I understand why I can't help crying while listening to this song. Usually Radiohead has a "happy lyrics, sad song" or "happy song, sad lyrics" dynamic. In this one they went full-sad. God, he was already intensely depressed before, that's probably one of the reason she left... he must have been so low after that. I feel so sorry for them...
DAAAAMN at the very end it looks like hes actually walking forward, you can tell this was meant to be viewed in reverse by the way he is stepping backwards through the doors and closing them intentionally. In his song he talks about how he wants to go in time, so its almost like this is what he is doing. this is pure gold.
"Half of my life" It's no secret that Thom has been eating peanuts daily for half of his life and he finally quit his addiction while writing this song. Half of 46 years is 23 years. 23 doors is how many years he's been eating peanuts. All makes sense.
Holy God, this video it's meant to be watched in reverse, the meaning of the video becomes more clear, the way he just open(close) the doors i feel like he's closing the chapters of his life and finally he goes away. So many emotions in this piece of art. Genius Thom.
@@ryanjosephlock "Daydreaming was written by the band around Jonny Greenwood playing piano in a jam without singer Thom Yorke, who added the vocals and the lyrics in another session"
The song is about his 'divorce' with Owen, as most of the album is. He's saying at the 'start' "Half of my life" in reverse. Thom is 47, when he was 46 him and Owen got separated, they were together for 23 years. Also, Pablo Honey was released on 1993. Exactly 23 years ago, half of Thom's life.
+Sayonara Chainsaw Compelling. We still think he is saying I've found my love the last 3 times. As if he says two separate sentences that sound similar.
+Sayonara Chainsaw No, it is about climate changing, there is a full explanation on reddit www.reddit.com/r/radiohead/comments/4i7tpv/must_read_meaning_behind_daydreaming_video/

The whole album is about his relationship with his wife, with the exception of Numbers. You know, since she left him a year ago, took his kids, half of his money and his house.
if someone says this doesnt work, they obvioulsy dont know that Thom Yorke walks in reverse naturally, he's a master at it, yep. Notice how he also isnt pushing the doors (normal mode) so it works in reverse because he's actually closing them as well.
All Radiohead songs from Kid A onwards have a multi-track approach where a group plays in one direction and another in reverse and then they are overlayed. They decompose and recompose music well, making simple melodies into something that goes beyond.
I feel like the video reversed almost captures the true spirit of the song. Things ending, chapters of life ending. I love both versions but this one feels like a punch in the heart. I mean that in a good way
I think the lyrics sites have got it wrong. Rather than saying "half of my life" six times in the final 35 seconds (or in this reverse version the first 35 seconds), it seems to me like he's repeating two different statements three times. Follow his lips and you'll see what I mean. I think he's saying "half of my life, I fooled my love" x3
+Steve Wilson in the video he is just mouthing the backwards vocals (half of my life/half of my love). Sort of like how they did the whole Spinning Plates vocal recordings (imitating the reversed vocals).
+Francesco G I think they not only flipped his vocals, but also filmed that final 35 seconds in reverse as well, enabling him to mouth the words in the correct order, then reversing that section of footage to match the reversed lyrics (does that make sense?!). In the original video, look at the way he folds his left arm at 5:49 - that type of movement makes more sense in reverse. Either way, I still think he's saying "half of my life, I fooled my love"

I realized that the voices in the normal song are backwards. Fucking genious. It would be really nice hear the original and then this, like the first one makes a big crunch or something like that
I think it was meant to be viewed backwards. Or at least thought of in that way. The vocals in the ending of the song beg to be shifted and reversed to decipher. They end up being "Half of my life" a likely reference to the time he spent with his ex wife. So in the "beginning" of this video, he's literally in a dark cave lying down meditating on the pain murmuring "half of my life" just totally distraught. Then he spends the rest of the video awkwardly walking backwards through life's everyday activities. It portrays both the uneasiness that comes with being unhappy in a world where everyone else seems to be acting normally, and the struggle and clumsiness that come with trying to be okay living everyday life alone again. By the end of the video he starts to better assimilate, and in the last few seconds his walking backwards is barely distinguishable from the other silhouettes walking forwards in the same direction.

But this uploader did just that, without that. I know what you mean though... It's nice there's so few people here in this space. Words have room to breathe, space to travel.
Does anyone else find this entire thing so much ear-friendly to watch and listen to? Just like the original?By the way, i love it how in the original it seems as though he lives and then accepts death and dies and in this its exactly the same. Like he wakes up in a cave (just like a man back from the dead) and goes backwards just to find that he was already dead, and accepts it, and fades out.
+Dewteliflower I think it says both; 'half of my life' first and 'there's no meaning' second. If so, goddamnit I'm worried about Thom now. :/ We're here for you, Thom!
Grief never leaves you, occasionally it will come knocking when you are least prepared for it. However, you have to walk away from it otherwise it will never leave you alone. Revisit the memories of the people who are important to you, but never stay the night.
Live he sings “careful my love” Then loops it backwards. I can sort of hear that here instead of “half of my life/love.” Either way, this is cool to watch backwards.
It Is infinity. He goes from light where there is many people coming and going (source) then goes to the most lonesome dark. Then he wakes up, heads back towards light and source. It’s like the infinity symbol. Just a soul voyage.
+Viktor Stanger If this song really is about ending his relationship with Owen, the way I see it is the doors are accessing memories, maybe he has erased her from his memories? When I watch it reversed it makes me think he's closing the doors of the memories and letting it go.

I haven't opened that drawer) Anyway long story short, here is the definition :) www.sacred-texts.com/tarot/sot/sot13.htm
hah what a poetic way to explain poliperspectiveness. Applied to this song, I can agree it invoked a certain notion of true/one knowledge for me. So what are you now except more aware? :)
If you play the reverse and forward versions together they meet in the middle when Thom is in the elevator and sings the only lyrics that he mouths, 'beyond me / beyond you". It looks like Paul Thomas Anderson really worked with the half/half, forward/back, yin/yang motif.
i feel like the original has the comfort intended for a wider audience. he enjoys his memories and ends up in comfort at a warm fireplace (even if he is alone). this version he experiences those times, closes the doors and walks into the unknown, the bright light with no excitement and nothing. just cold, alone, and in a tunnel. I feel like this version is more close to truth a lot of the time. there is no comfort, these things happen, people die and sometimes theres no comfort. we just carry on. cold and lonely heading towards to unknown.
Yea, but others are in the tunnel as well, so I think you might consider it, along with the fact that people are used sparingly in this clip and usually they represent some meaning, like seeing a Doctor or a few kids in a house

Just like the original?By the way, i love it how in the original it seems as though he lives and then accepts death and dies and in this its exactly the same. Like he wakes up in a cave (just like a man back from the dead) and goes backwards just to find that he was already dead, and accepts it, and fades out.
Do at the end of the normal song he says "There's no meaning" in reverse? That's what it sounds like at least
+Dewteliflower ayy lmao we got the same pic. and youre right it does sound like that
+Dewteliflower "Half of my life" he split up from his wife of 23 years. Hence "Half of my life"
ayyy aleks
+Dewteliflower this is epic
+Dewteliflower I think it says both; 'half of my life' first and 'there's no meaning' second. If so, goddamnit I'm worried about Thom now. :/ We're here for you, Thom!
He walks through 27 doors. One door for every year of half of his life.
3:18 "aaaaa viiiiibe" lmao
Hi at 4:25
And dry at 4:40
Grief never leaves you, occasionally it will come knocking when you are least prepared for it. However, you have to walk away from it otherwise it will never leave you alone. Revisit the memories of the people who are important to you, but never stay the night.

He is saying "Half of my life", because he married Rachel Owen when he was 22. His marriage ended up after 23 years...
What about listening to both normal and reverse songs at the same time ? ;)
At the start: "Half of my life"...
+DJC Vidz Nice! I could've sworn he was saying "every minute," but I think you got it right.
He says "I've found my love"
Live he sings “careful my love” Then loops it backwards. I can sort of hear that here instead of “half of my life/love.” Either way, this is cool to watch backwards.
I haven't cried this much since bullet proof.... I wish I was
0:00 - 0:35 Half Life 3 confirmed
It Is infinity. He goes from light where there is many people coming and going (source) then goes to the most lonesome dark. Then he wakes up, heads back towards light and source. It’s like the infinity symbol. Just a soul voyage.
El mito de a caverna de Platón
This reminds me of Plato's cave, somehow.
I remember this song and good video of reversing it
in the regular video he's entering her life for 23 years. and in the reversed video he's leaving her life.
im the only one listening this version more than the original ?
Oh dear Radiohead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful video.
Thom's incredible - he never bumps into things when he walks backwards?!
): revo llaf yllausu I
The humming from the background noise Thom was making is probably also reversed I think, so it sound right in this version. I might get it wrong tho.
"this was a dream" is that what he says? I'm thinkin about it since I saw the video the first time. thanks for uploading what I was hoping to find.
+IceAgeProductions it says "half of my life"refering to the time he was married i guess
+Viktor Stanger I think it refers to his artistic career "we're just happy serve you/ half of my life"
+Viktor Stanger If this song really is about ending his relationship with Owen, the way I see it is the doors are accessing memories, maybe he has erased her from his memories? When I watch it reversed it makes me think he's closing the doors of the memories and letting it go.
04:58 "ölmeyen" in Turkish means "that never dies"
(I think in our subconscious minds, we know all the languages on earth...After all it's all coming from "The Stars"...)
+Ertan Saygi that's a really gorgeous thought. :)
+Adriana Sudarić Thanks :) I got it from nature...I think I've developed some kind of OCD since January...I see letters formed by trees in nature especially when it's raining...It always changes...Like "Gestalt psychology" art structures or Pareidolia effects. (It's normal according to "The Stars" definition :) )
Then i thought: "Maybe, alphabets are born this way"
+Ertan Saygi what is "The Stars" definition? Maybe you should scribble it down and try to decode what the world is trying to say to you.
+Adriana Sudarić
Tarot card: "The stars"...Before January, i've been an atheist skeptic all my life...Then after "seeing things", i had a dream about my deceased father joking me with a magnet inside some needles and an iron ring in my hand pulled the magnet and needles hurt me, he was sorry and he had put it in a drawer...After i woke up, i opened the drawer and there they were...Magnet, needles...And under them a tarot deck :)
(My family was never into those kind of things but a local newspaper gave it as a gift...They did not throw it for years and i was away during those years. I haven't opened that drawer)
Anyway long story short, here is the definition :)

hah what a poetic way to explain poliperspectiveness. Applied to this song, I can agree it invoked a certain notion of true/one knowledge for me. So what are you now except more aware? :)
This is a masterpiece, even in reverse mode

And after closing all the doors he is ready to walk towards the light, ready to face the death of that part of his life. Perhaps.
my bloody valentine?
wow the violins backwards sound awsome
The beginning of the song is like Bob from Twin Peaks.
