    Loved the slow-mo "oh my god!" at 2:25 lol, I'm positive that I'd have had the same reaction if I had one of those beasts, the 980Ti is clearly pretty epic, when I get the budget I'll definitely pick one up... if only there weren't all those nasty bills to pay!

      T.E.D. de Medici Nvidia prolly cherry picked Linus' free card - Nvidia does that for popular reviewers and some lucky consumers like me , who got two OG Titans that both OC to 1300mhz on a thermally stable 24/7 overclock on AIR. Lucky me :)

    • @lootyy

    • @Mirandorl
      @Mirandorl 9 лет назад +1

      Masser Phi Exactly. This is why I pay more attention to shop bought reviews nowadays. If you were Nvidia, or ANY tech company, would you just pull a random one off the shop floor and send it out knowing its getting reviewed and a few million views, or would you find the best you can get? Its nice to get video from guys like Jay and Linus but I want to see someone who had to schlep down to microcenter and drag the thing back themselves review it (assuming technical competence of course)

    • @masserphi2534

    • @SteelmanArgument
      @SteelmanArgument 9 лет назад +13

      DrocDoc Because the R9 295X2 is a double GPU-card and of course it will perform better FPS-wise but most people prefer single GPU-cards due to varying Crossfire-compatibility with games, microstuttering, heat etc.

    • @danielburgos3817
      @danielburgos3817 9 лет назад

      Of course the R9x2 is going to be faster it's a dual gpu. Crossfire is when 2 single AMD gpus are linked with a crossfire link on the same motherboard. The R9x2 is a dual gpu card which is different than crossfire bc now instead two single gpu cards it's just two gpu cards on 1 pcb removing the crossfire link

    It's a very good idea to include older GPUs in benchmark results for our reference - too many tests only include one GPU generation which is near useless for analysing general comparison / a potential GPU upgrade. Personally speaking I'd include the previous 2 generations so the most relevant cards are covered.

      Kriss_941 same here, Need the 390x to come out before i decide on any upgrade.
      If AMD has just bolted on HBM memory onto exisitng architecture like say a 290x then it's going to be average gains, What I want to know is if they have redesigned the entire thing like Nvidia did with the 980, Still using the same 28nm process but look at what Nvidia was able to pull off, a mid range card giving high end performance while using less power than a 780ti. If AMD has done the same thing with Fury it is going to be an absolute monster of a gpu.

    • @Kriss_941
      @Kriss_941 9 лет назад

    Finally someone doesn't just straight off call me a dumb ass for buying a titan. The ti does look nice though overall. I got 2 Titan X's and even though "everyone feels sorry for me" on the internet, i am quite satisfied with these Behemoths (plural?). Considering how I personally did see the vram go over 6gb a few times, up to 8gb even, I am not regretting my purchase.. yet.. Maybe amd will make me cry who knows..

    • @ferretkiller9454

      He didn't straight come out and say it, but it's there if you thought the TI wasn't coming out. 350$ for 4-10% gains is pretty laughable -.-

      I was pretty convinced that the ti was going to come out and i was also pretty convinced that the ti would have less than 8gb (which was desirable for me), so eh i'm happy :)

    The 12gb was a selling point for me because I'm getting deeper into 3D design & rendering :) GPU-based renderers like VRay and Octane will make happy use of the VRAM. It's interesting to note that there's more in high-end 3D rendering than textures that populates the VRAM. Another one is geometry detail & complexity. Video game engines are always working uphill to basically achieve high-end 3D rendering methods in real-time, or at least imitate them, so this pattern of VRAM usage could clue you in on what to expect in future game engines.

    It always seemed to make sense to me that such a big chip as the GM200 is, would end up having a cut down version, but I didn't expect the cutdown to be so small.
    On a side note, amd recently teased that DX12 will support split frame rendering which seems like a superior solution to the alternate frame rendering we have now. Since each card processes part of the screen, having more cards would actually lighten the load on each card, and reduce frame times. Seems like a more efficient way to utilize multiple gpus.

    The Asus R9 290X cards are notorious for their inefficient cooler. What Asus has done is take the cooler from their GTX 780(Ti) cards and just strap it onto the 290X core, which is smaller than a 780(Ti) core. This means two of the five heatpipes in the cooler don't actually make contact with the core, causing some pretty serious heat problems, usually running the core at 90+ degrees, causing throttling. Obviously it runs a lot quieter than a reference card, but something like a Sapphire Tri-X or Vapor-X card deals with the heat a lot better because its cooler was specially designed for the 290X.
