If you steam the eggs they peel easily. And it’s easy to prep them for large events. I had to cook and peel 5 dozen. I put a rack in a big pot and put all the eggs in at once., with one inch of water.
I love those and have made a great many of them through the years not just for us but for others and for fund raising auctions. They are fun to make, heavy, and warm. :)

Heidi, love you and your info! I recently watched many videos about hard boiling eggs. People are having great success with instant pots. I don't have one or wish to invest in one. But found a couple videos about steaming instead of boiling. Tried it with my old collapsible vegetable basket and it works great! Room temp eggs 15 minutes over boiling water, then plunge into cold water. Easy peeling! Hope this helps you. God bless you and your family.
You're just in time on the dandelions Heidi.🙂 I've never had dandelion tea so I'm going to try that. I made a grocery bag out of old jeans - gosh! - probably 20 years ago! I'm still using it.😁 I put one of the back pockets on it and it's been handy. ✝️🇺🇸💜🤗
I'm a believer in the way you peel eggs. I used to work in a cafeteria. I was in charge of the salad bar so we went through tons of eggs! But I noticed if I either put the hot boiled eggs in cool water or put cold eggs in very warm water, they seemed to peel easier. My theory was that in either case, the membrane between the egg white and the shell would relax and allow it to be pulled away. Those aprons are adorable. What a super cute idea for the hummingbird feeder too! Jacelyn is so talented! And I looove hummingbirds!
I have found that if I add my fresh eggs to my water that is just starting to boil & then boil the time you choose, that really has helped with peeling.
I sold eggs to a couple that loved boiled eggs. If course mine were quite fresh. They found that setting them out on the counter for a couple of days helped. They were already washed. I like to cool my boiled eggs much like you. I then tap the large end to start breaking the egg. I the use a teaspoon inverted to slip under the shell and remove it that way. I have pretty good success that way 😊
so interesting what people do; I never had trouble with mine now that we get them from some one different I make sure I save a dozen for a week or longer then boil them and still... some are just sticky tricky. I also do them in the sun oven - per Stacy that makes them super easy to peel even freshly laid ones, ummmm not these! LOL
I just learned this today and tried it myself...apperently its pretty normal in germany, i think, to prick the air sack end (larger rounder end, not the pointy end) of the egg with a thumb tack, then boil them as normal. I steam my eggs for 10-13 minutes. My 4 and 5 day old fresh eggs peeled just like white store bought eggs! I was so happy I laughed out loud! It's been such a struggle with the farm fresh eggs since my chickens started laying last year. So relieved to have found a solution.

Prick the air sack end of the egg before boiling or steaming, and skip the icewater bath. I just did this tonight. Its all about peircing the membrane under the shell so that moisture/air can get in between the membrane and the white.

My dandelion flowers ALWAYS puff up no matter I do. Wether I put them in the dehydrator or even air drying them they just puff up. I even tried ur vinegar spray tip but they still puffed up…….. Is there any other tips or tricks to keep them from puffing inorder to use them in teas later?
The heat setting you use and when you pick them matters. Older flowers will be more likely to puff up than those that have just opened up for the first time
Hi Heidi 👋 I just watched this video and recalled from your Dandelion video that you rinse some of your Dandelions in vinegar if you're not sure if the dogs have been near 😉 so would like advice on the dilution you would use please. I've never heard of that so would very much appreciate your input. Thank you and God Bless.
I just lightly spray my full strength homemade vinegar on them when I do that (which is not often), leave for a minute or two and then rinse. I do not soak
I dry the flower as a whole. The only time it is really necessary to pull all the petals off is if you are making a dandelion wine. The reason for this is to prevent it from turning bitter. While I do make wine, I have many other better uses for my dandelions than that so I do not bother doing that.
You can but I do not, on the rare days we do get sun, we also get a lot of humidity because we live close to a rain forest and things do not dry well in such conditions
Hello, I have a question. I tried the warm method to infuse dandelion flowers, putting them in a mini-crock pot with oil overnight in ‘warm’ but woke to find the temp at 180 degrees! 😳 Is it still good?? I’d hate to think I wasted all that oil $$ & time. 😔
Rain Country thanks, that’s what I figured. 😔 Tried drying more out just overnight on a rack & they’re *very* fuzzy with some yellow, maybe 70/30%. (& I painstakingly de-flowered them..yellow only) Should I toss those too?? Thank you so much for responding! 🌻😁
Depends on how much they puff out. If they have totally gone to seed, I would probably not use them but some times mine get a little puffy but still have their dried petals, that is the important part
Vinegar is what you have after about 30 days if left alone. A fermentation starter is kept active and bubbly and not allowed to turn to vinegar. You can check the video I linked in the description box on how to make, use, and maintain a fermentation starter

Just some wives' tale that I know was said back when I was a kid so I had grown up believing it but it is actually very healthy and though I have yet to try it, it is very healing when used topically for skin treatment
Did you say the stems when they're young and tender with the white milk in them are your favourite or did you mean the leaves that are young and tender are your favourite to eat? Yes there's a process to doing the roots as well to get the best for the nutritional value of a dandelion. The roots went terribly moldy on me, meanwhile, I know there's a better process. I'm listening thank you
@@RainCountryHomestead I'm so glad you said that cuz I want to try them and I heard that the stems with the milky substance is good to put on cuts and so forth that's another thing I'll review again the traditional medicinal healing properties. Hi Heidi, Just wondering if you mean all species of dandelion when you mention them. I have 3 different types in my yard with the same flower. does this make any difference? I have a plant identified as Dandelion but also Smooth hawksbeard which looks nearly the same but with different leaves. Cheers Daz 😁😁😁
While there are a couple different varieties, there are also some that are not Taraxacum though they look very similar. Each day is different depending on if I am shooting and/or editing videos, watching my grandchildren, gardening, sewing, and so on. However, here is the most recent video I did about 6 months ago on time management: ruclips.net/video/o7WB9HEi3lo/видео.html
Older flowers will be more likely to puff up than those that have just opened up for the first time
Sometime could you do a video on DMSO? Ty.
Maybe, we keep it on hand but have rarely used it for much even though we know it is quite helpful for many things
Question - HOW do you pull the dandelion petals from the stems more easily?????
I dry the flower as a whole. The only time it is really necessary to pull all the petals off is if you are making a dandelion wine. The reason for this is to prevent it from turning bitter. While I do make wine, I have many other better uses for my dandelions than that so I do not bother doing that.
@@RainCountryHomestead awesome - just pulled about a gallon of fresh petals I want to make jelly with
Can I still dehydrate my dandelion if it closes while washing them? Or did I ruin them?
Yes, you can, they just will not look as pretty in the jar
Have you ever use the sun to dehydrate them dandy lions
You can but I do not, on the rare days we do get sun, we also get a lot of humidity because we live close to a rain forest and things do not dry well in such conditions
Hello, I have a question. I tried the warm method to infuse dandelion flowers, putting them in a mini-crock pot with oil overnight in ‘warm’ but woke to find the temp at 180 degrees! 😳 Is it still good?? I’d hate to think I wasted all that oil $$ & time. 😔
It is hard to say, that is pretty warm for herbs. I am sure the oil is still useful but you may not get the benefits from the dandelion
Can you still use them if they puff out when u dehydrate them? Thank you❤️, mine turned to puffballs in my dehydrator.
Depends on how much they puff out. If they have totally gone to seed, I would probably not use them but some times mine get a little puffy but still have their dried petals, that is the important part
If they have “puffed” can you still use it for tea?
I don't see why not
I've got dandelions and I've got a dehydrator. What setting and how long? I just want him dry. I don't care how they look. 😊
110° and length of time will depend on your dehydrator and your climate. Just check every couple of hours
@@RainCountryHomestead thanks
What's the difference between a fermentation starter and vinegar?
Vinegar is what you have after about 30 days if left alone. A fermentation starter is kept active and bubbly and not allowed to turn to vinegar. You can check the video I linked in the description box on how to make, use, and maintain a fermentation starter
Love your this and that! Who made those cute aprons. How can I order one. Thanks
Not sure if she is taking orders but you can find her in the comments in this video. Her name is Jacqueline Manzano
Hi Barbara, I made the aprons, if you would like one here is my email address; elegantrepairs@aol.com please put "jean apron" in the subject line. I will send you pictures of some aprons for you to choose from.
Why do people say the white sap is poisonous?
Just some wives' tale that I know was said back when I was a kid so I had grown up believing it but it is actually very healthy and though I have yet to try it, it is very healing when used topically for skin treatment
Did you say the stems when they're young and tender with the white milk in them are your favourite or did you mean the leaves that are young and tender are your favourite to eat? Yes there's a process to doing the roots as well to get the best for the nutritional value of a dandelion. The roots went terribly moldy on me, meanwhile, I know there's a better process. I'm listening thank you
I said the stems and that is what I meant. I do like to eat the fresh leaves too but the stems are my favorite
@@RainCountryHomestead I'm so glad you said that cuz I want to try them and I heard that the stems with the milky substance is good to put on cuts and so forth that's another thing I'll review again the traditional medicinal healing properties. I can stand to be corrected, thank you much appreciate your reply.
The most commonly grown and used is the Taraxacum officinale and this is what I speak of.
Here is the video I did a few years ago on the many uses for dandelion: ruclips.net/video/Yq4WnsBTfZ0/видео.html
@@RainCountryHomestead Thanks Heidi 😁 I've already watched that video. This is why I'm looking at harvest options.
Is dehydrating only for storing them? Can you just eat them fresh? Like add the yellow part to salads?
Yes, I eat them fresh on salads or just straight from the plant, added to stir fries or teas but dehydrating is for future use in teas, using in homemade soaps or for infusing oils for salve
@@RainCountryHomestead Thank you so much for your reply. One more question please. What about the tiny sharp "hairs" on the leaves? Do you eat them also?
@@mlmiller2267 Dandelion leaves do not have sharp hairs. You must tbe thinking of another aster that looks like dandelion. I recommend you check out the video I had mentioned and also linked to in the description box above that I did a couple of years ago about dandelions, uses, and benefits where I also show close ops of the leaves and what they look like and also compare them to another common dandelion look a like
Got your message. You are right! I was going back and forth watching video on dandelions and STINGING NETTLE. I got my videos confused. Sorry. Thanks.
@@mlmiller2267 O! Haha! Well, I do actually eat the stinging nettle leaves raw from time to time, there is a trick to it to keep from getting stung but I love the flavor of it fresh and it is so healthy
I missed how to make the aprons out of old jeans. Do you have a link or video for that?
I do have an apron making video from a long time ago but what was missed is that the aprons I show were gifts from someone else. The same lady that made the key chain and bird feeder.
@@RainCountryHomestead I was soothing my frightened little pet during a storm and was reading the closed caption on your video. I guess I wasn’t very good at multitasking. Thanks for the I do. I’ll try to find the apron video.
@@beckymcgee1663 I can link you to my video which is here: ruclips.net/video/XNrOlAsVn4E/видео.html
But it is not for the jean apron and I do not think Jaqueline has a youtube channel with a how to video for the ones she made.
@@RainCountryHomestead Thank you! This is very helpful! Recently found your videos and really enjoy them!
How old is he now?
Jaxon just turned 6 months :)
I try to sundry mine and they puffed 🙃
Yep, I find dehydrating between 110° and 115° works best
Could you freeze dry these?
I am sure you can though most herbs are dehydrated.
Ugh,wanted just to kniw about dandelions
Any video I have that is titled "THIS~N~THAT" is a vlog video where i talk about many topics and part of that is to lead people back to the single topic videos I already have. If you want to just learn about dandelions, then please go to this video: ruclips.net/video/Yq4WnsBTfZ0/видео.html
