Oh my gosh!! Thank you!! This was not something I have ever seen in my family! I did not know this so thank you for sharing! That is so clever and what a cute little fridge friend!
The classic mallard coloring makes me happy. But I think, despite how "plain" it is, I like the white speckled one best. It reminds me of vanilla bean ice cream, which for some reason reminds me of my grandmother, who passed in 2018.
I know it's a duck and not a goose, but when I saw the ribbon I immediately thought of the Untitled Goose Game. 😂 Painting the duck/goose white with a red bow and adding a bunch of the stolen items from the game on the dish would be so funny! Very cute ducks eitherway and I like the speckled glaze. ❤
@@ShelbySherritt Definietely check it out! Or look up a video of it. You play a goose stealing stuff and being chaotic in a cute little town. It's adorable and very funny! And there is one part of the game where the goose steals a red ribbon off of a ceramic goose and wears it itself. So that's the connection. 😄
Every family in Ireland in the 90s had a plate and tea set that had rabbits and foxes on them. I had 2 randomly assigned flatmates in college from different areas and we managed to get an almost complete set between us 😹
Beatrix Potter books come to mind seeing these ducks.Maybe that’s why duck butter dishes are so popular on the web? I kinda want one! These are so cute!
My family had multicolored dinnerware, but it wasn't cause we liked it... it was cause my mom was sick of people not taking responsibility for their dishes, so we each got assigned a color, and were responsible for our color. xD Mine were blue in the first round, and then i had Orange. I'm the only one of the kids that still has any of them! I have the blue plate still, and I have the orange plate, cup and bowl!
I remember for awhile back in the 90's, almost everything in the stores was decorated with geese with ribbons on their necks. They were inescapable. There were times when I had a hard time finding things for my home that didn't have geese. That said, your ducks are really cute.
i think this decade’s equivalent is gnomes and/or bees. every time i go to hobby lobby i find so many different gnome or bee related things. they even have some stuff with gnomes and bees its crazy
Growing up we always had boring plates, so now my husband and I are obsessed with color and unique dishes! We're currently in the midst of a lettuceware kick and have spent WAY too much on plates that look like lettuce...
The guy I'm dating has all white dishes. At my house, I buy the most colorful I can find. We grew up with white dishes. Open my cabinet and there's an explosion of color. He's beginning to notice I'm for colorful too. ❤
OMG!!! the Geese crockery! I found one of the cups in an opshop the other day and sent it to my Partners family chat. No one knew what they were! I thought everyone had them. But we had the Geese set and a set of brown kind of flowers, which I just googled as typing this and it is called Mountain wood dried flowers crockery! check that one out, see if you recognise it. I am so jealous of the people taking these home! I love butter dishes! I don't know why, but I just do! Love them all, rainbow one is soo cool! I think the blue ribbon with an orange beak would be awesome!
Here in the Black Forest, Germany there is a small manufacture that is widely known for their dish series called 'henne und hahn' (hen and rooster) that I loved in our Kindergarden I went to as a child. Now as an adult I am the proud owner of a whole set. They are especially close to my heart, as my collection started when my husbands late grandmother gave us pieces of series for every birthday.
Wow, Nostalgie +100! Wir hatten das nie, aber ich sehe mich sofort als Kind bei Freunden auf einer Eckbank vor einem Kiefernholztisch sitzen und Kakao trinken 😄
There was something about the duck shape that made me keen to see some native duck patterns - wood ducks and chestnut fronted teals- are my favourites. Mallards are classic, but invasive in Australia. And I can't think where I saw them but I can see the blue and white geese kitchens in my mind!
I Love the art deco green ducks!! They are beautiful on their own but when you mentioned gold bows it made me think they would look stunning with a metallic bow as well ❤
Its so weird to think of something so soft and delicate and whimsical as a big part of the 80s. I think growing up in a different era I always think of the bright eccentric colours and the big bold stuff rather than the delicate side!
Thank you so so much! They were so different but so happy you liked both of them! You are so welcome, thank you for still supporting me to do it! I probably would have stopped ages ago if you all weren't here cheering me on!
Maybe the dish could be the colour of the ribbon on the plain ducks? I liked the speckle but you are so right about how much it removes the look of the texture. Hope to see you at the market! I arrive the Saturday evening in Australia so hoping to make it on Sunday.
Yess! I like that idea of the matching plate with the ribbon! I definitely like that as a fall back idea! For these videos I love to just add a little bit more to add a bit of experiment to them each time. I definitely think you could never go wrong with the matching colours! Also, what the heck! I cant wait to see you!! Are you flying into Melbourne?
@@ShelbySherritt , yes coming over with my 82yr old Nana and possibly her friend. Just from NZ but I love Melbourne and Nana has never travelled alone plus her youngest grandson moved there just before the lockdowns so she wanted to visit him.
I wasn't expecting it, but I'm blown away by the mallard! I love the nostalgia factor of the white with the ribbons, those were the ones I expected to be my favorites. But the paint job on the mallard in particular is absolutely STUNNING.
I have this duck butter dish! My friend gave it to me as a present years and years ago. My little ducky has a yellow bill, light blue ribbon and a blue base. So lovely to see it in a different colourway!
These ducks were so popular when I was a young teen in the 80's. My first cookie jar as an adult was a goose with the blue bow. These turned out so adorable. I love each one.
Your enthusiasm is contagious. A plain plate with a little bow or duckling on the plate would be better for me with the colorful duck. Love the pond on the white ones, I agree on the speckle glaze. No on the gold the retro vibe would be wrecked. Cheers from the Midwest USA. 💜
Growing up our neighbour had their whole kitchen with that duck design! Even wall paper! When they re did their kitchen we got given some mugs....they were then given to me when I moved out and 20 years later we have 1 little ducky cup still going strong 😊
Shelby, you are such a pleasure to watch! Your smile and the tone of your voice makes me feel happy. You have a contagious joy about you! I have just recently jumped on the duck bandwagon and I am seeing them everywhere! I love vintage the most though! Very popular colors from the 70’s were a harvest gold, orange and brown. I see those in almost every vintage crocheted throw that I find at thrift stores. Those colors would be fun too!
Growing up we had boring plates, but when i was about 7 we went shopping for a new set! My mom picked out these bright fruit plates! She loved them and they made her so happy. She recently passed away in March and one of the things that i have kept is her plate set and they make me so happy
I love these they remind me of my Gram’s kitchen out at our farm, she had this kitchen towel rack with three geese heads (the necks were where the towels hung) in was would but they were painted white, with pale yellow beaks, and yellow polka dots on the neck and the hinge base that attached to the wall was the same yellow too. This just makes me feel so nostalgic
Oh my goodness I'm from United States and my auntie had that butter dish whole little set of duck things. You just made me smile baby. This auntie wants you to have a fabulous morning and a great day. Keep up the great work
Growing up, my mother had the kitchen decorated white geese with navy bows. The walls where white and the floors were white tile with a navy border and flowers. She had the matching dinner set and everything. Now her kitchen is ALL apples

The white duck with the blue ribbon just blasted me back to my childhood! My Mum LOVED those geese with the blue ribbons! We had little jars (I still have one! Lol), and ornaments and she even did some cross-stitches with them! We never had the dinner set, however, we did have a nice plain blue that matched the geese! Love these! Thanks for sharing and good luck at your market!

These are so adorable! We didn't have duck dishes, but we did have country blue stripe. The country blue with ducks or geese was just a WHOLE THING in the 80s! I also had a dinner set with those type of ducks as a kid!! The best part of it was a two part duck shape egg cup/salt shaker that would have fit right in with these butter dishes. The rainbow and the mallard are my favourites, but they're all adorable
my grandmother had a poinsettia dish set that we always brought out for christmas and i actually inherited it and i love it so much. they are not valuable or rare, but they are loud and bright and fill me with joy.

A beloved dinnerware set my family had as a kid were rimmed with colorful fruits. I actually had forgotten about them until now! What a fun little memory. :) As soon as you revealed the duck dish I was like, oh boy, she's gonna love this one! haha
I remember my mom having duck patterned curtains in our kitchen when I was a kid. We also would take long backroads drive to an Amish discount bulk foods store in PA and there was a house on the route that had a goose, gander and gosling on their front porch and they would dress the geese up different ways every month or so. It was so cute. The gosling eventually disappeared. It was so sad.
Getting major Jemima Puddle-Duck vibes from the white and blue colour ways, so nostalgic! Reminds me so much of her little blue bonnet! I’m such a big fan of the mallard design you did on these, would look so pretty in a country style kitchen, it’s my dream to have a big victorian style cast iron stovetop when I move out of my parents house (if I ever make it out as a single woman in this economy)… maybe if I win the lottery 😅
We had the same goose/duck set growing up! Both my mum and dad' parents had them, my parents had them too! My grandparents still do - we use them every time I go over because I love them so much haha
They're all lovely but the plain white with the Art Deco green bow is my favourite. Never seen a butter dish like this before so fascinating to see. Nice to see the big kiln working well for you 😊
The duck with bicarbonate is used to keep your fridge from smelling! The bicarb acts as a deodoriser; we had a polar bear that did the same thing.
Oh my gosh!! Thank you!! This was not something I have ever seen in my family! I did not know this so thank you for sharing! That is so clever and what a cute little fridge friend!
I have that same bear.
I liked the mallard and the white ones best
I was thinking it had something to do with the fact that many people used to keep bicarbonate on hand for an antacid, but that also makes sense!
My family had a polar bear one too!

I totally remember the geese with the ribbons and bonnets. We had dish towels, drinking glasses and coasters IIRC.

As soon as you opened it I thought, ‘yep! That’s a Shelby mould!” The one with the blue bow reminds me a bit of Jemima Puddle Duck ❤
We had the same goose/duck set growing up! Both my mum and dad' parents had them, my parents had them too!
My grandparents still do - we use them every time I go over because I love them so much haha
I absolutely love the rainbow duck it's so cute 😍!!!!
They're all lovely but the plain white with the Art Deco green bow is my favourite. Never seen a butter dish like this before so fascinating to see.
Nice to see the big kiln working well for you 😊
Love the white one with the blue bow❤️👍🏻
So good to hear you having such fun.
I love the duck butter dish! So cool. My favorite are the mallard and the rainbow duck. I think a gold bow would look *amazing*
Omg the duck butter dish is what I live for
